if benefits are what is keeping poor men from marrying poor women, they can't have such great personalities in the first place.

    ...

Maybe those men should work on developing their personality.  That is free.

Maybe people should stop taking handouts when they don't need them

I think it's perfectly rational for people to not want to marry and bring children into a  system where there's a critical mass of people who take what they can from it and give zero thought to what the consequences are on anyone else.

Perhaps many of the men you speak of are more aware of the dysfunctional situation a potential child is being brought into in this Country than the vast majority who have them. It takes zero personality, conscience, or awareness to create one, and far more than two people to raise one.

As an aside judging single people from the confines of my relationship generally means it's not in such a good place and that I'm trying to validate my own choices by diminishing others.

Many on here appear to be under the misapprehension that the UK is a world power with superb military and world class economy. To quote Peter Hitchens who recently said on TheTimes Radio show: "outside the south east the UK is a third world country with sleet". 😆

And many also seem to be under the impression that other countries can organise a p1ss up in a brewery, everyone thought Russia would blitz Ukraine within a couple of days and look at what happened.

The reality is until the SHTF you don't know what's going to happen. Look at South Korea's Sewol disaster, US New Orleans, or even the gang problems in Sweden right now for examples of Countries getting thing seriously wrong. Look at the Covid responses for each Country. It happens everywhere.

No one fights for a 'country' that treats them as a serf.

They do in Russia. North Korea etc. The West looks worth fighting for in comparison

Russia sense people in the West don't want to fight so they can't be kept in check.

Samrand Faik, who works with young people in the Stockholm district of Järva, said that for many young people he had spoken to, especially those outraged by the government’s inaction over a series of Qur’an burnings last year, the expectation to do national service feels unjust

Imagine how you'd feel if you have to fight lots of people who worship the Qur'an then.

Thatch and wood are pretty clear as to what they are....... capitalism and socialism, conveniently,  not so. There should be clear distinction.....socialism requires (forces) tax payers to underwrite repayment of money created from thin air...... All government is therefore socialist......

    ?

There's elements of capitalism and socialism in every functioning economic system. The roof analogy works on the basis that it's pointless having a debate between the two choices when it's a redundant one. We already moved on a long time ago.

Most of the ills we have in society are a function of corruption rather than ideology.

  6. 1 hour ago, cnick said:

Maybe, but couldn't we give capitalism a try first?

Why are there only two choices of economic ideology this matter? Aren't we more knowledgable than we were in the 19th century? It's almost like we're still having a debate between a thatch roof and a wood roof.

It's the free market dealing with the problem of shortages.

If the government managed the economy responsibly we would not be in this position.

Those London prices are ridiculous. It's a dump too.

That place is going to collapse.

Why anyone would pay those prices is beyond me.

You could get around that by sleeping at bed & breakfasts and save cash.

Just stay at hostels and other B & Bs and change every few days according to availability and price.

If you can get £50 a night or less then you save cash.

    No council tax. No deposit.

Nobody is going to move around to hostels and B&B's to save cash, it's an unrealistic idea, you wouldn't even have a permanent address

The reason a lot of people live in London is because they get good salaries and have good careers and friends and their lives there. A lot aren't just going to uproot because some people think it's a dump.

You have gone off in a wild tangent

Britain isn't threatened by Palestinians in Gaza

We are not at war with Palestinians

In fact Britain is not at war at all

The West is being flooded by Chinese drugs, Chinese Viruses, Chinese propaganda, and you think we're not at war. Do you seriously think the timing of this attack was not intended to deliver exactly the kind of distraction and division that we're seeing here?

Do you even take a look around your own Country and see what's going on or is only when people get blown up in a far away land you get concerned about the suffering of others?

    This is insane

Also you are aware Israel was leaning towards the Russians much more than the West until they fell out a couple of years back.

The Palestinians do matter and saying they don't is very very silly

Thinking the Palestinians matter more than your own Country is very silly. I'm amazed by how many people haven't caught up to the rapid deterioration of the West.

Israel can't just do what it wants, its actions can, and are, emboldening the very people and countries you are concerned about.

Those countries aren't emboldening the West then? Just innocent bystanders I guess

It's not about me, Agent 77. It's never been about me! I've only ever wanted justice for Palestine. You Ziocon monsters aren't going to get away with it this time.

    Genocide. 👈

If you wanted justice for Palestine then you would want Hamas gone and for a nonviolent revolution to occur over the next 3-5 years.

But given that you've typed something about Ziocon monsters not getting away with it this time, what you actually want is the destruction of the West. Like a lot of people. You may well get your wish granted soon enough.

Yes, here in the UK we hear politicians of all stripes talking about a "Two state solution" but with with Netanyeehaa explicitly stating such could give much cause for us to pause and reflect.

No, we won't pause and reflect

We need Israel as an ally right now since several countries are trying to destabilise us and succeeding. The Hamas attack was merely another well timed proxy action from these Countries. It's shocking how many people don't recognise we're teetering on the brink and think the plight of Palestine is more important.

Israel can do what they want.

Take a good look, every single one of them supports the destruction of the West whether they're aware of it or not

    Not really knowable.

If someone has to pop 10 tablets of some techno-chemical per day down your throat just to hang on at 90 years of age, maybe it is past your time?

It is knowable in my mothers case because she forgot to take them for a few days and ended up back in hospital

I can't be bothered to entertain a sociopath this morning that can't make the distinction between the issue of a shortage of drugs and the issue of an overreliance on pills so I'll leave you to it

Whilst I'm sure Brexit has made logistics more difficult in the pharma trade, I'd say (and I admit I know nothing about it specifically) this is more a symptom of the what I would term 'shortage of everything'.

It scares me but I have a nagging small feeling that the world maybe at the slowly slowly then all at once stage of decline. It's only a small part of me but one can see in many sectors things just aren't 'working' anymore and I don't mean in a things were better in my day way.

Like I say I know **** about **** and I truly hope this is a blip in the road but ye... Time for bed.

    Agree.

I think this is also why many people are working less and have given up which is a negative loop.
