  1. Well, it looks like the UK population is going to keep on growing https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationprojections/bulletins/nationalpopulationprojections/2020basedinterim and there won't be more space available to common folk (unless there is a radical land reform or a revolution happening) so brace for more and more extreme solutions, folks. This terraced 2 bed in Burnley might be a sound investment in the next decade, after all.
  2. I have asked my last employer for a small 15% raise. They said "no, we can't do that" so I have left. It was a good move as I make 4 times more now.
  3. War in Ukraine will affect house prices in England of course. It will create even more refugees, fleeing from the conflict zones and from areas not yet being conflict zones. Some of those will end up in Britain, no doubt. This will create even more pressures on housing.
  4. I have only found this https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/27/uk-receives-34000-visa-requests-from-hong-kong-in-two-months , sorry if reposting.
  5. There are thousands of Costa and Starbucks coffee machines in places like WHS, making coffee without human being present, no price difference though. A double espresso is still 2.80 or thereabouts, just like in staffed outlets, the only difference being you ca enjoy your drink without having a brief conversation with a "highly trained and professional barista" who invariably pronounces espresso "expresso".
  6. As long as Chinese keep saving 40% of their income and investing saved money in property, in China and wolrdwide, there will be no end of HPI.
  7. Twenty-eight-year-old Hayley Tillotson is the first person in the UK believed to have been made bankrupt because of the cladding crisis. She bought her first home in Leeds two years ago but learnt that it was clad with flammable material. Overwhelmed with the extra costs of dealing with the problems, she had to hand back her keys. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/business-55847260
  8. I see from your comments on this forum that you know the future. Can you tell me what should I do right now? What should I invest my money in?
  9. They want to replace gas boilers with costly heat pumps nationwide but no one mentions millions of houses with old windows and no proper thermal insulation, obvious issues that need addressing urgently not to mention cost less money and time to resolve.
  10. I didn't realize the proces of putting the property on the market is that fast in Hampshire. The house is listed before the deceased got cold. It doesn't look like that around my endZ. The most recently listed properties are from the end of last year.
  11. Well if you know one Pole on good money that means that you have very limited network of personal contacts, nothing else. Anecdotal evidence means here the same as it does anywhere else that is f all. Maybe you could meet more rich Poles living in Britain if you moved out of your council bedsit in Burnley you are currently occupying?
  12. EDMO has been around for a long time, it's just not being used. In my town there are houses that's been standing empty forever, on main roads, no one in the cuncil cares.
  13. Free to those who can afford it, very expensive to those who can't.
  14. Of course it hasn't affected anyone on this forum. Opinionated economical internet gurus from HPC forum; they know it all, share their priceless advice here daily but despite sounding solid it somehow is never right and IRL they live in squalor in council-paid homeshares in worst areas of Burnley and Blackpool, nourishing themselves with diet consisting of £1 frozen pizzas from Iceland and cheapest Lidl crisps, their marriages long ago broken and their kids no longer talking to them : )
  15. Sounds like a very good plan. I would take this money and go to Japan to study buddhism Zen for a couple of years if I were you.
  16. Looking back I see that it turned out to be a very good advice, I wonder if she did as I told her.
  17. In WM area the answer is very simple - old house is bought by Asians, next stage is: enter the Asian building company employing illegals. They seem to be working on every other project in Bham. No H&S, no PPE, no English spoken, no questions asked, just the job getting done quickly and cheaply. Last stage: freshly pimped-up 3bed house sold for 50k more than it was bought a month ago.
  18. Also, the house might be standing on a formerly excavated site that has been afterwards backfiled with all sorts of rubbish and remains unstable. I have seen a house like that in Smethwick. One wall had cracks all over because that side of the building was slowly sinking into such a pit.
  19. IDK how very relevant it is to the main topic but I have just went past the gates of the University of Birmingham in Selly Oak and what stroke me was that this section of the Bournbrook Rd, right next to the uni gate, https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4464586,-1.9276255,3a,60y,344.79h,88.14t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sVDYTl83ImlUG0HliH7AzOg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 is plastered with "TO LET" signs right and left. Same goes for this area, always bursting wih (mainly Chinese) students in the autumn season, now seems eerily empty... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.4495473,-1.9474241,3a,75y,118.14h,74.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s1VFdwoEzJpOAkGFhAs8wew!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 I didn't go around the whole Selly Oak area which is basically one big cluster of BTL HMO students terraced houses but if the most popular spots look like that, the rest probably fares no better.
  20. I tried to get an adviser from them unbiased.co.uk, gave them my details, joint income of 24k pa, 25k deposit, want to borrow 125k. Got an email today. Nope. None of our advisers has time right now. They won't speak to likes of you. Get your finances in better shape and come back. That's basically what they said.
  21. I always try to avoid Amazon like a plague. Week ago I bought a juicer from ebay. The guy took my money, ordered one from Amazon and they sent it to me.
  22. Not surprised why it won't sell. The decor. Too many not-matching items crammed together in this flat. I got sensory overload from just looking at those pictures. If I want to get on a psychedelic trip I will drop an acid. Living in that place would mean I was on a very bad trip all the time.
