  1. Took a little digging... http://www.razla.com/articles/worlds-most-...-man-found.html
  2. Somebody should register it and just have a page that says "Property Guru is a comple tw*t" in big flashing letters (Flashing letters optional)
  3. I have similar anecdotal evidence that would suggest the same thing. My gf's parents have recently split up and divorce is looming on the horizon for them. My gf's mum wants to get shot of the old family home as soon as she can so that she can move to a new area a start a new life elsewhere, so this weekend my gf, her sister and their mum set about clearing out the house of all the accumulated clutter and old stuff that collected in the attic and took it all to a car boot sale. Apparently so she informs me, there was a hell of a lot of sellers and quite thin on buyers and what buyers there were seemed reluctant to actually buy anything. Now I'm not a die hard car boot enthusiast, never have been and never will be, but this seems to be a imbalance to the way car boot sales should work(i.e. many more buyers than sellers). Of course this second-hand anecdotal evidence as I wasn't there myself. I was much too busy with the important business of playing GTA:SA to be messing around up lofts and wandering around car boot sales. Though this also means both parents will need a smaller house thus reducing the supply of smaller properties to FTB's, but at the same time increasing the supply of family houses.
  4. Hmmm, well As you know zzg, assuming you can remember that far back that is , I left my last property not only owing the last months rent but several weeks in addition to this. The LL at that property was a total shambles and its her own fault for not bothering to come and collect the rent and as she took weeks sometimes months to solve any issues with the property I had zero problems doing a bunk. The problem now is I live with my gf and her being the good natured sort that she is, I can forsee her putting pressure on me to do the "right thing" and play by the book. Problem is experience has taught me playing by the book usually ends up costing me money But on the otherhand, the letting agent has been decent with me up until now so I don't want to screw them over when its possible if I did things right they would give me my deposit back and everything would end on good terms. But obviously I want my money back at the same time so not sure which way to go on this one. I definately am not going to be handing over £120 just for a new contract, what a con.
  5. Right, me and the gf are currently under a 6 month contract which is all fine and dandy but at the end of the 6 months the letting agent are going to attempt to charge me in the region of 125 shiny pounds to "renew the contracts". Obviously I won't be paying, its the principle for one thing, so I have a few questions. 1. When the 6 months is up and if I don't sign a new contract, do I have vacate the property straight away? Or are they still obliged to give me two months notice before I have to leave? Is there anyway they can have written it into the contract that at the end of the 6 months, if no new contract is signed, then I have to leave immediately? 2. Whats the best way to handle this contract renewal situation? Should I contact them now and tell them I won't be paying(I'm 3 months into the contract) or wait till the last possible moment and then refuse to pay? 3. Is it a bit cheeky to refuse to pay the above and then ask for a rent reduction as well? 4. How likely is it that a letting agent would refuse to give me back my deposit, assuming the property is in as good a state as when we took it on? Whats the best strategy here, don't pay the last months rent and then wait till they pay back the deposit or shoot straight dice and pay the last months rent and trust they will do the decent thing? I notice the contract states if I don't pay my rent when I should, after 9 days they will start charging me interest, bearing this in mind is it really a good idea to not pay?
  6. Ok, now I see what mustrums point was, but I still don't see what it has to do with paying a ridiculous license fee to own an electronic good. Besides, if the companies didn't advertise on TV then they would advertise elsewhere and would still add the cost on to the product. Plus, you still have a choice of whether to buy the product or not, there will almost certainly be an alternative that isn't advertised on TV and therefore doesn't have an advertising cost added to it.
  7. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. What is this stealth TV license you talk of? Do you mean the advertising messages I see on the TV(when I actually watch it)? In which case I'm not opposed to them because they cost me nothing, as I'm not taken in by them and do not purchase products based on seeing it on TV or how good the TV advert was. If thats not what you mean then I'm not sure I know what tax you are talking about :/ But thats not a direct charge, I have choice over whether I pay for something I see advertised on the TV or not. Not all TV advertising is bad anyway imo, sometimes I see something advertised that I would buy anyway, seeing it on the TV just brings it to my attention(product awareness) that the product exists therefore I buy it sooner rather than later.
  8. Just makes me more opposed to the system tbh, whats next? A license to own a kettle?
  9. Well I don't want to get into an extended argument as to whether the license fee is justifiable. Suffice to say, I feel watching the constant advertisments is the price you pay for the TV, time is more valuable than money and as theres no option to not receive the BBC.... Thanks for the info though
  10. Apologies in advance to the original poster for going OT.... Perhaps I shouldn't reveal my darker criminal side here but what the hell. I have no TV license but I do have a TV, I don't watch it all that much myself but the gf does quite a bit and I don't think she'd be willing to give it up(I'd happily get rid of it personally). Now I know I'm breaking the law but tbh, I think the law is a joke so I don't really have a problem with this as I find the whole licensing thing to be a complete con and effectively another form of taxation. Despite the above, obviously I don't want to pay a £1000 fine. In the real world do detector style ppl actually exist? Am I actually going to be paid a visit by a guy in a raincoat whos willing to sit outside monitoring my flat so that he can get his man? The TV licensing ppl have sent me several letters saying I need to get a license and always one for being a bit cheeky I phoned them up and told them I didn't have a TV and they MUST stop sending me letters or I'd report them They said ok then, we'll send someone round to verify you don't have TV receiving equipment, do you have a prefered time for the visit? So I said they could come anytime as it makes no difference because I won't be letting them into my place of residence I assume I do have the right to refuse entry, so in this case how exactly do they prove I have a TV set? Am I sailing dangerously close to the edge and risk a nasty fine or are these ppl all mouth and no trousers? Apologies if I've offended anyone whos pro-licensing
  11. I think what dogbox is saying is that prices look a bit soggy now and come winter they are about to get a lot worse, not they will firm up the winter.

    Sterling

I notice sterling has continued its creeping decline this past week having broke any last support level it might have and showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. So my question is, are we going to see a slow and steady decline in sterling until it reaches the $1.55-$1.60 mark or are we going to see a reversal of this trend anytime soon? What impact will it have if the US continue raising rates and we hold ours? If we drop ours? What tf we increase our rates? Is it already too late? And what effect is all of this likely to have on the FTSE if any?
  13. Well I think its reasonable to say most of us think the OP has made a slight error in judgement to say the least But thats no reason to jump down his throat, after all the VI media machine can very persuasive and we shouldn't have a go at those who have fallen into the trap or who may hold a different opinion to our own. I personally don't wish you any misfortune ftb_2005, though what I think the likely outcome for you will be is a different matter but......well good luck. I hope you put down a large deposit and have a low LTV.
  14. Do you or do you not believe US rates have any bearing on UK rates ftb?
  15. But you don't own a house!?!?!?! How can you have possibly have bought gold without even owning your own home. I think you're lying
  16. I suspect the person who made that post is a ringer All of the others are serious though, except sine who likes to play at being bi-bullish every so often(whatever flicks your switch tbh )
  17. And just I was about to reply to a particularly abusive post made by LL which may or may not have been directed at me, kind of hard to tell as I don't really speak 'chav' myself. From what little I gathered, she believes anyone who doesn't own property and claims to hold any other investment is: A. Lying B. Has sub-intellect C. Lives in a bedsit D. Well proly "miss the boat" on the SM as they have with housing You couldn't make it up tbh.
  18. Well I have to agree with some of what TTRTR is saying, I have worked in Sweden breifly and met a lot of Swedes through work and my impressions were of a highly motivated country with, generally speaking, a highly educated population. They seem to offer good services as well. As for avoiding wars.......well they did allow the Nazis free passage through there country so they could invade the rest of Scandinavia Avoiding wars by screwing over your neighbours basically then isn't it?
  19. Crikey, talk about being a sucker for self-abuse j/k, good luck with the interview TB. You bet your ass thats what they are up to. They'll also phone you up making out your a dead cert for a position they have and can you just quickly go over your past experience....one minute into giving them a rundown and they're asking who the director of the your last company was, what was your line managers name etc. etc. Me: Why do you want to know that? Them: Oh we just need to put the information down on your record Me: I don't want to give out names Them: Oh well with this position we need to check references before putting you forward Me: I'll provide my references direct to the company involved when appropriate Them: Well we can't put you forward until you provide us with these details Me: Ok, bye
  20. I was going to apologise about hijacking your thread but then I thought, well my old mate Sledge won't mind I did actually listen to the audio clip if that makes you feel any better Well spotted on the weather, it does seem like every picture taken shows Gosport permanently lives underneath a storm cloud(perhaps the wrath of god for being such a blemish on his planet )
  21. Two more things I like about the Nimrod Road one: 1. The estate agent is so kind as to inform us the picture is of the whole building, not just the flat you would be buying(no sh*t sherlock) but I can't help feeling even if it were the whole building up for that price I still wouldn't buy 2. The vendor is looking for "cash" buyers only......and they proly want unmarked notes stuffed in a suitcase I suspect either because they are a crack dealer or they don't actually even own the flat
  22. Why doesn't that suprise me You notice that piccie of the one on Nimrod Drive was taken on a rainy day, I wonder if thats because the local crack dealers don't like getting wet so it was the only time they could take the photo without a pile of burning tyres being in shot
  23. lololol, wouldn't happened to have been in this area would it? http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-523...pa_n=1&tr_t=buy Lovely 2 bedroom, close to the thames valley and a steal at 25k I like how its advertised with the "view toward The Solent and Portdown Hill" as its selling point Or perhaps it was part of the well known beauty spot of Nimrod Drive.. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-370...pa_n=1&tr_t=buy Personally, looks to me like a picture straight from war torn Afghanistan And I'm sure you were one of the exceptions to the rule Sledge Hampshire is a very pleasant area for scenery(except Gosport obviously), just a pity the ppl in general tend to be arrogant sh*ts.
  24. I used to live in Hampshire, dire place full of retired army majors and posh bints. In the area I lived in property prices were so high, I doubt that even with shared ownership ppl on low incomes would be able to afford them. Mind you Gosford is in Hampshire, affordable housing there so long as you don't mind getting knifed every so often
