  1. Thank you. That explanation seems reasonable and yes, airbag deployment is not an exact science!
  2. So the fuse needs resetting because the airbags go off but this happens even in small accidents? That seems to imply that airbags deploy more readily in EVs than ICE. Is this true? Considering airbags can often injure the occupants there is a reason that they are only deployed in extreme circumstances and not in ‘small accidents’. BTW I don’t know anything much about EVs so just wondering if this is correct.
  3. No incentive to do a good job. Or pride in doing a good job. That attitude is almost baked in to modern day working life.
  4. It’s a nice idea but SD cuts just make people more confident about borrowing more money, under the delusion that they are getting some sort of freebie from the government. Banks won’t lend the money to people to buy at current prices, so an SD cut bung of a few grand is a drop in the ocean and would only benefit cash buyers/cash investors, who are conspicuous by their absence as 3% yields are a nonsense when you can get 5% on deposit.
  5. Now I can see you’re just here to wind people up. Inflation goes negative you say. Oh no, I meant prices fell last month. Clickbait windup nonsense.
  6. Don’t be ridiculous, it’s still 9.9%!! I assume someone else makes your financial decisions for you 😂 The BRC said food prices rose by 9.9% in the year to September, down from a rate of 11.5% in August.
  7. Not surprising really that people took that view - banks, BSs and brokers all effectively pedalled the view for years to punters, that mortgage rates only went down. The lenders frantically passed around mortgage debt to each other in the form of two year fixes, offering ever lower rates and monthly payments. This gave mortgage holders a totally inaccurate view of lending and money in general. Now normality has returned to the market, anyone with less than 10years as a mortgage holder is staring and blinking in disbelief.
  8. But unlike money in the bank, HPI is not available to you until you sell (except perhaps in the form of more debt). Of course most people think it’s theirs and is ‘banked’ and this is what’s leading to the current market stalemate. Sellers ‘needing’ the price in their head which is not the price buyers can afford or are prepared to pay.
  9. The opportunity to work from home has given many people two significant privileges - financial in reduced (or eliminated) commuting costs, plus time both in terms of commuting and the opportunity to arrange some personal affairs around working time. Not surprisingly hardly anyone wants to give these up as they will view any job without these privileges as a downgrade. But privileges they are. Offered by the company that employs you and not your right although you may choose not to work in any job or for any organisation that doesn’t offer WFH. Companies have to some extent rushed into WFH due to Covid. But those that have had it in place for a long time know what the rules are and what works. Where I have worked (before Covid) where employees were ‘home based’ it was on a basis that you had a ‘home office’ i.e a dedicated room (no noises, distractions, kids barging in etc) and you were available without question during the agreed working hours. To your colleagues or to anyone dealing with you, it was as if you were in an office. There was never any question that people who worked from home were skiving or not going the work because the rules, technology and most importantly the management, were in place.
  10. I heard a guest on a Radio 4 programme (I think on More or Less) say that all the CO2 produced by UK since the start of the industrial revolution i.e 250 years or so, is equivalent to what China has produced in the last 8 years....
  11. Exactly. And the prev gen brought up and educated the current generation so they are effectively criticising themselves 😂
  12. Mock all you like but kids we are told now have terrible mental health problems with anxiety being top of the list. For anxiety read no confidence. Lack of confidence leads to depression and a pretty horrible life. I wouldn’t be a kid today and it’s all down the adults who’ve extracted every bit of fun out of kids lives, over protecting them to feed their paranoia.
  13. It seems to me that the majority of big new build developments are built within a couple of miles of a motorway junction or major A road. I presume this because there is then no requirement for the developers or council to provide any new roads to deal with the increase in traffic (usually 100% of households as no public transport). if you live near open land near a motorway junction, it won’t stay like that for long....
  14. I’d love to have a new build, just not stuck next to the motorway/trunk road or railway tracks, not crowbarred in between factories/retail units/etc, a garden that isn’t overlooked by countless other houses, rooms that just about fit the basic furniture etc I agree about the low energy costs and the maintenance free first ten years (although after that could be a nightmare for some new builds) but all the negatives don’t make these things worth it for me. Not to mention paying a massive premium to buy one.....
  15. Eric Pebble! I don’t post much but have followed HPC for years. Even if I block or get bored with someone I usually ‘let them back’ as I find I’m still interested in what they have to say even if it drives me nuts.. The poster that sticks in the mind was Venger. Vast posts of intricate dialogue about ‘renter savers’ and ‘pushing back’. Not sure I understood most of them 😳
  16. It’s more of a case that the dollar is strengthening since July although today’s news hasn’t done GBP any favours... The pound is still at the higher end of its trading band of 1.07 to 1.20 Euro which has been in place since the Brexit vote i.e since 2016.
  17. You what? Read what you’ve written. And then re read my post. You’ve decided what my thoughts and my position are on the subject without any basis whatsoever. But I don’t care.
  18. Yawn. There’s a whole thread on this subject not to mention extensive media coverage about ‘the facts’. But I’ll accept your version 😂
  19. And the time of the year with ever increasing demand through till spring. A mild winter might help a bit..
  20. Old news I’m afraid. They’re rising too..... https://www.catalyst-commercial.co.uk/wholesale-gas-prices/ UK Day Ahead Wholesale Gas Prices
