I have scoured the web trying to find an answer to this problem with no joy yet, so I will be sitting in the long citizens advice queue before the weekend. But before that I am hoping I may find an answer here.
I have rented the same house for 1 year and 8 months. Signing a new AST last August 21st.
The landlord issued us with two months notice back in march, to leave the premises by 1st June.
No problem. We have found another property and are ready to move. But our landlord is refusing
to let us leave during the first month of the notice (on 1st May) and making us pay right through to
1st June.
Are we legally obliged to pay this? after all he is the one evicting us! We have never missed a payment
and always been what we consider to be good tenants.
The excuse given for us to stay right through the notice period is that there will be "no-one to pay the mortgage for a month"
