Do you want the British Empire back?
Pebbles replied to shlomo's topic in House prices and the economy
The British empire certainly wasn't a bad thing in the same way the Roman empire wasn't either. -
Goodbye leasehold reform - Gove surrenders

I think they should be banned only for new builds. I can quite see that if you choose to invest in something that is legal you cannot retrospectively take away that investment as a government. I'm not surprised about pension funds being burnt and lawyers having a field day and the civil service are right to point it out. I hope those crying in over this failure because of lawyers were equally as sad when the government had it's hands tied over immigration reform also by legal action. -
Because people do care its part of the English identity. Nike should not have tried to be pc or change the countries flag. Sorry nikes said "The same colours also feature an interpretation of the flag of St George on the back of the collar." So this BS about it not being a flag is basically lies. And given how much is politicised political correctness you should definitely question the motives.

Also my private pension is retrospectively worsened. The government delay me bing able to take it as access is linked to state pension age and they reduce the lifetime allowance.

Its pretty bad statistically they will have paid less physical pounds in they will draw the pension for longer. technically they should be expected to retire later. i say that with tongue in cheek because i don't believe in equality i believe in equity, women having a smaller pension because of decisions they and their partners took 30 years ago is as fine as men statistically living shorter lives. you win some you loose some..
-
These women were stupid for not knowing the change in retirement age, you shouldnt be compensated for having ones head in the sand. Instead they should tax stupidity that society had to carry them.

Yes that awful evil government that changed Britain forever.

Fair enough is difficult to know what is trolling on here and what is misplaced optimism around impending house price falls (that i want too BTW). I should know i've been here since 2011.

Rightmove HPIs +1.5% MoM, +0.8% YoY

Absolutely spot on. It is amazing that people who have been so wrong on house prices for so long cant see there are other deciding factors outside of raising interest rates from record historical lows to just low. -

Predictable and predictable the head in sand responses from those on here who say this is just initial asking prices. It shows a wave of confidence. Interest rates are still not historically high and thing other than interest rates like supply and demand (Much maligned by people on here who want nothing bad said about either immigration or not building over the countryside). -
Like John McDonnell who use the Phrase Lynch the Bitch about Esther McVey. That was an actual MP and you regularly see people suggesting heads on a spike or being shot about conservative MP's do they not count as death threats. Look at the comments around bankers on the great financial crash there were lots of death threats around then too. either no death threats are acceptable or they all are you cant pick and choose Diane Abbot is not aloud Fred Goodwin or Rishi is.

Witness the end of "Wokeness"

I don't want to shut down conversation I am a free speech absolutist. If people want to say racist things that makes them look like a idiot then they should be able to. But it has to go both ways and it simply isn't allowed to go both ways. Black only spaces are fine if the converse is allowed. Men can have their single sex spaces and women can too. But fly a banner saying black lives matter and that's allowed fly a banner saying white lives matter and you get banned by your football club and loose your job. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN23W0JK/&ved=2ahUKEwjQiduuxPOEAxXcREEAHYVyC7UQFnoECAQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2P4dW8TvRMqluOlpMOCagS both should be allowed. it is racist to allow one and not allow the other. It's the double standards that get me which could be alleviated by actually having free speech. And people who say crappy stuff get their views aired in public. Hester is stupid for saying what he said and I don't agree with him. No more than kemi, and Preti don't make me love women of colour just because of their views which are more similar to mine. I just want consistency in how these are dealt with. -

Well it is the only acceptable form of racism and sexism. I had a bad experience with some black people at uni if I took the allowed on mumsnet approach of slagging of that entire group based upon that protected characteristic (like is often allowed with white men) i wouldn't be allowed to stand on the site yet the converse is allowed to stand regularly. It's the two tier censoring that i have an issue with. For example they also have a tread that starts with This is a thread in Black Mumsnetters if you are not black or a POC your views aren't wanted. imagine the uproar if a thread said the views of black and POC weren't wanted how long do you think that would last? John McDonnell used the phrase "Lynch the bitch" about Esther McVey which is no worse than suggesting Diane Abbot was shot yet where was a similar level of media attention on him. There wasn't because one is "acceptable" and one isn't. Even was if i was Diane having been antisemitic i would be less keen to throw stones within my greenhouse https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65365978 about this. -

Boomers have their hand out again!!!
Pebbles replied to hughjass's topic in House prices and the economy
I too agree I expect nothing from my parents my kids will get nothing. I believe in a 100% or close to it tax on inheritance rewarding work should be what should be aimed for and every other income should be taxed at your marginal rate. My kids will get skills it up to them to use them to get on in life. No bailing them out with inheritance. -

I would rather people were left to fund their own, of course given the option of taking the pill if they wanted to pass on an inheritance or simply dont want to fund the care home costs. The current way of making the prudent pay and those who spent their money getting free care is unjust and unfair. -

Absolutely correct. In victorian large numbers of people simply couldnt afford to live like this. Dont get me wrong people who can pay for themselves (not the state through benefits) to not work i'm happy with them not working. Likewise in retirement we should be funded from work so drop pension credit and free care homes and introduce poor houses for the elderly who chose not to save. I bet loads would suddenly choose to enter retirement with more money by working. -

I am a free speech absolutist. go on Mumsnet and see the we hate men posters, not the "we find it hard not to hate men" posters. All I am asking for is equality under the law both race and sex are protected characteristics under the equality act (albeit I don't think equality act should apply to speech). The next time a someone makes a similar comment about white men can we have a similar level of outrage? Then at least our freedom of speech will be impacted in the same way.
