  1. This is the problem for savers. The drawbridge is firmly up for those that want to save to buy a house
  2. Long time reader here I hope they did buy back in the end, because prices are NEVER EVER going back to 2007 levels and IR are NEVER EVER going to rise significantly in all our lifetimes. Why post this now? Because its important to remember what people believed would happen and what really did happen over the last 15 years. IMO, we are just about to start a hyper period of Rentier Capitalism whether we want it or not - so buy a house now - and thank me in 20 years time. Its just a viewpoint - feel free to disagree
  3. Feb 6 2020 - First case of BSE reported in Switzerland since 2012 https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/mad-cow-disease_first-case-of-bse-reported-in-switzerland-since-2012/45542186
  4. Nope - turn the TV on - its called unbiassed news and its happening right now All of those who think the EU is the greatest and best - Remember what you see - The EU is just another power construct, except its leaders are those you cannot vote out. How'd like them apples sunshine?
  5. Brexit - with everyone going on about borders - this is a REAL border issue - and its happening on Europe's borders right today https://time.com/5800116/eu-refugees-turkey-greece-border/ What will solve it? - Nothing Whilst Italy is "shutting" down to contain Coronavirus, we are all doomed to watch BBC/SKY News show a horrific human catastrophy of infected migrants dying in the fields surrounding Europe's border. Its probably the real reason why Erdogan wants the migrants to leave Turkey Those troops are there to stop infected people.....which in hindsight, will be looked upon as a disgusting indictment of all things Europe and Turkey - people dying on their borders from a flu, floating in rivers and buried in woods while we all look away...... What has changed is the language. For all the bloc’s failings at the height of the crisis, speeches usually touched on the importance of protecting those in need and upholding the E.U.’s moral values. Now, it is the cold, hard language of war and security – it is the borders and a nebulous ‘European way of life’ which need protecting, not people. “The system is dehumanizing these people — this is what Europe has purposefully decided to do,” says Marco Sandrone, a field coordinator for Doctors Without Borders on the Greek island of Lesbos, where an increase in arrivals is making a dire situation even worse.
  6. For the love of g*d - This is what you say "Medical treatment is ultimately the decision of the individual, normally based on the advice of their attending physician." The context is this - you don't understand the meaning of "Medical Treatment" https://www.lawinsider.com/dictionary/medical-treatment Medical treatment means the provision, withholding, or withdrawal of any health care, medical procedure, including artificially provided nourishment and hydration, surgery, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or service to maintain, diagnose, treat, or provide for a patient's physical or mental health or personal care. Medical treatment means treatment, other than first aid, administered by a physician or registered Maybe what you should have said is something alongthe lines of this "Being treated medically is ultimately the decision of the individual, normally based on the advice of their attending physician." This is the thing - Its no wonder you like the idea of the EU, you just don;t understand the finer points of what it means
  7. Wrong ! Medical treatment is ultimately the decision of the healthcare provider, not the individual. If medical treatment is offered to you (it can be denied to you), all you can do is decide to rubberstamp the treatment or not (even that depends!). Then theres the grey area of DNR which is decided upon by relatives Wrong again ! This is a common Med Student ethics discussion topic - Abortion is such a case. The decision of healthcare providers is bound by ethics of "what is in the best interests" which takes in account patients' (plural) wishes but the medical treatment decision is not solely bound to it Anyway, even the link you provided proves what I say as per here When consent is not needed There are a few exceptions when treatment may be able to go ahead without the person's consent, even if they're capable of giving their permission. It may not be necessary to obtain consent if a person: needs emergency treatment to save their life, but they're incapacitated (for example, they're unconscious) – the reasons why treatment was necessary should be fully explained once they have recovered immediately needs an additional emergency procedure during an operation – there has to be a clear medical reason why it would be unsafe to wait to obtain consent with a severe mental health condition, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or dementia, lacks the capacity to consent to the treatment of their mental health (under the Mental Health Act 1983) – in these cases, treatment for unrelated physical conditions still requires consent, which the patient may be able to provide, despite their mental illness needs hospital treatment for a severe mental health condition, but self-harmed or attempted suicide while competent and is refusing treatment (under the Mental Health Act 1983) – the person's nearest relative or an approved social worker must make an application for the person to be forcibly kept in hospital, and 2 doctors must assess the person's condition is a risk to public health as a result of rabies, cholera or tuberculosis (TB) is severely ill and living in unhygienic conditions (under the National Assistance Act 1948) – a person who's severely ill or infirm and living in unsanitary conditions can be taken to a place of care without their consent
  8. What utter tosh - you clearly know NOTHING about healthcare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triage Now this is interesting - Lets see if this is still the case after this outbreak
  9. yes - interesting isn't it? Lets compare how the EU treats mainland countries to how it has treated the UK regarding The ban on British beef (Its the UK - that OK, hit them hard FOR 10 YEARS) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovine_spongiform_encephalopathy#Europe The BSE crisis led to the European Union banning exports of British beef with effect from March 1996; the ban lasted for 10 years before it was finally lifted on 1 May 2006 despite attempts in May through September 1996 by British prime minister John Major to get the ban lifted. The ban, which led to much controversy in Parliament and to the incineration of over one million cattle from at least March 1996,resulted in trade controversies between the UK and other EU states, dubbed "beef war" by media. Restrictions remained for beef containing "vertebral material" and for beef sold on the bone. France continued to impose a ban on British beef illegally long after the European Court of Justice had ordered it to lift its blockade, although it has never paid any fine for doing so.
  10. The part in bold is why people voted to leave. Lets see if we really do get back our seas and learn to rule ourselves again
  11. Tend to agree that a leave vote is more likely to bring house prices down. a welcome benefit. It seems our remainer chums want HPI to increase even more
  12. You know very well what he meant - your idea on elections is to keep holding them until the result is one YOU agree with, and thereafter YOU decide not to hold anymore elections Let me tell you something - YOU ain't important, your vote is and YOUR VOTE LOST
  13. I thought you said you you'd accepted the result? "Remember kids - Remainer = Gamer Danger"
  14. With shares collapsing, Low Interest rates and a slump looming (increased taxes?), which is the better store of value in the long term- Gold or a house (owned outright)?
  15. Quite right - The UK is a fantastic place to live - A really interesting vibrant country - full of opportunity for those that want it You could add "stable transparent democracy" too
  16. Hmmmmm... Target practise by an EU state - own it remainers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/video_and_audio/headlines/51715422/greek-coast-guards-fire-into-sea-near-migrant-boat
  17. You must work for the Kremlin ! Syria "Russia establishing permanent presence at its Syrian bases" https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-russia-bases/russia-establishing-permanent-presence-at-its-syria-bases-ria-cites-minister-idUSKBN1EK0HD Ukraine "Shortly after the crash, Igor Girkin, leader of the Donbass separatists, was reported to have posted on social media network VKontakte, taking credit for downing a Ukrainian An-26.This news was repeated by channels in Russia, with LifeNews reporting "a new victory of Donetsk self-defence who shot down yet another Ukrainian airplane". Russian news agency TASS also reported eyewitness accounts claiming that the Donbass militia had just shot down a Ukrainian An-26 military airplane with a missile. The separatists later denied involvement, saying they did not have the equipment or training to hit a target at that altitude.Russian media also reported that Alexander Borodai called one of the Moscow media managers 40 minutes after the crash, saying that "likely we shot down a civilian airliner"" "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_17 Sergei Skripal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Skripal
  18. Nah - it will never catch on. There's going to be low IR for very looooong time yet - where have you been for the last ten years?
  19. Really? this never happened then https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annexation_of_Crimea_by_the_Russian_Federation
  20. I wish I could agree with you, but theres a lot of war going on right now near Europe's border. Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Syria Its only a matter of time now before Russia selects a third country for military advance - it could even be N.Korea that triggers it. The problem we are all facing - is the idea that another war won't happen, or it is so far away from us that we either don't care about it or are ignoring the real terrible effects such as in Syria right now. That could easily be Europe again *edited the previous post to make it clear that ground troops arn't needed as much in war today - there were no long distance ballistic missles available in WW2, only short range V2 rockets https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-2_rocket#V-2_rocket_targets
  21. Tend to agree - but I believe the construct of the EU negotiating team for Brexit is fixed in such a way, that Brexit talks are doomed anyway. Before any negotiations started, all states had to agree to neuter themselves in this dogfight. They all had to abdicate any decision making role in negotiations - their only role was going to be a rubber stamping exercise. The probelm with this is that each dissenting state who is not "on-message" will be pressurised to give the "right" answer, and if they don't play ball, there will repeated attempts to co-opt , rather like the repeated referendums of the past until the "right" answer was given, or as in the case of France, dismantling the legal need for a referendum. The worst part of this for ALL of us - Is that EU negotiations are being handled by an appointed (unelected) quango headed by an appointed (unelected) leader. None of these people are accountable. The success or failure of negotiations doesn't affect them personally - They will drive through whatever ensures that they keep their golden pensions - and that will be forcing punitive measures against the UK and by proxy, the UK people how the UK responds to what will be effectively an enemy on its border is the really frightening thing - and the EU should realise before it is too late, that using its might falsely and by false proxy to demean a major former ally country will backfire badly in the long run. Militarily, the EU is in serious danger of being an easy target and it will get worse - the US will not step in next time, it will just bomb the cr*p out of the EU mainland if similar circumstances happen as per WW2 or as predicted cold war scenarios
  22. bb, there are some things you clearly know nothing about, otherwise you would have been decent enough NOT to ask this question. If on the other hand you truely are so ignorant, then count yourself lucky. Quite often, lying is done for the benefit of a person. Paliative care of a parent is one where you will be glad not to know, and that is why it is done - for the benefit of YOU - the living. In many cases, doctors are told BY THE PATIENT not to reveal the diagnosis to loved ones while they are alive However, there are many other examples like as follows https://www.statnews.com/2018/04/17/doctors-lying-patients/ - We have said to parents of newborns, “She will sleep through the night,” or, “Your breast milk will come in any day now,” knowing there is a distinct possibility that neither might happen. - We have said to parents with children in the cardiac intensive care unit, intubated and sedated after major heart surgery, “He isn’t in pain; he knows that you’re here,” when we have little idea whether such awareness is possible in states of induced coma and paralysis.
