Coronavirus - potential Black Swan?
Itssimple replied to LetsBuild's topic in House prices and the economy
It Will have been PRESENTED to Johnson and spads. Who know doubt felt (under media pressure as well) that they had no choice but to go with sage and approve. Media also has a lot to answer for. I notice on another thread you have been involved in gov. And you said something about not asking questions/discussing with minister's, to do with briefings?, maybe that is part of the problem here. Like I said something needs to change. -

Rubbish. If sage were so good they would have been prepared, instead they cobbled up a presentation that was flawed. As such trust was lost, and I can understand why Johnson is unhappy. As a sidenote I emailed my mp (tory) before the vote, he sent a Reuters news link back to justify why he voted for the lockdown... which was a month old...... incredible. Labour are effin worse. The majority in government are useless. Same for the civil service, and councils. The majority forget who pays their wages and pensions. I liken the above to the unions around the 70s I'm all for Cummings shaking the system up, problem is their is not enough like him in this country. Rant over. It will be interesting to hear what Johnson says later today. Lockdown changes maybe? -

It was extremely stressful. We felt cornered, and if he contracted it in hospital we knew we would not be able to prove it. It was quite a confrontational phone call at one point, till the single room agreement, which he was in for only two days before back on ward. Feel for others who have gone through similar. -

Never heard that. Here's what happened to my father in law. He is 86, lives alone, and for his age quite remarkable, though he does have problems with his legs, and circulation, on medication. He fell one morning in the hallway, knocking his head, and could not get up. Ambulance arrived and took him hospital. On arrival, covid test. Negative, though he did have a temperature above normal. Placed on normal ward. Next day temperature falling but still slightly above normal, another covid test, Negative. Stayed on ward. Following day, temperature fallen further, now just within normal. No covid test. But they now wanted to move him onto a covid ward... wtf. I was straight on the phone, and all I can say is it took a right battle for them to agree to move him to a single room. The staff seem to be blinkered or they don't trust the tests. I was relieved when he was discharged. Though the care while he is at home is truly shocking. Nurses don't turn up when expected etc. Best yet, they phoned him to apologise missing an appointment and said they could be there at 2 in the morning. He lives in York I'm in no doubt that they will be lots of excess deaths due to treatments been cancelled or avoided by nervous patients, he won't go in again. -

Any views on care homes. Apparently otc medicine needs a prescription. Vitamin D inc. Majority of folk in care are deficient in vitamin d. A small article. https://nutrition.bmj.com/content/early/2020/09/20/bmjnph-2020-000129 Also I remember Hancock mentioning he looking into vitamin d a while back, any news? Imo the policy of sending folk from hospital back to care homes without testing, and care homes without ppe was enough of a scandal, but it appears to be carrying on in other ways. -

Question how did they test the mink? Why kill them all? Why not let nature takes its course, and observe/learn? After all it was transmitted to them by humans. -

I don't believe anything from this government or their services/minions after last Saturday's presentation and the Whitty/Valance questioning. -

After all the fiasco, and info from other sources, which some will argue with (which is fair enough), but has been proven closer to the truth so far.... all the above is bollock5 imo. If the mass dubious testing don't help the government, what next... Adopt a Mink? -

Everyone should have dreams, good luck. If you've not tried the med, and have the certs, go bareboat for a holiday, and talk to as many people as you can while there. Or no certs, you could go on a flotilla holiday. If no certs, you could do evening classes for the theory over winter, it's what I did for a few winters, it works out cheaper, and I think sticks in the mind more. Plus you get to know folk more, with the course been over a longer time frame. Crew for folk if poss at a local club, they will probably be able to recommend best spot for theory. I've not done the med, did not really interest me, just mooched around bits of UK. Soz to others, off topic.

If the above is correct, then Its good news, or folk are saying stuff the tests. And from a cynical angle, they need the Liverpool test to pick the numbers up to prove their worst case (scenario). -

Here's a curve ball. I've been following this since Feb, and until very recently it has been very very quiet. Interestingly over the last couple of weeks things are picking up, especially last week. I have no knowledge.. so don't ask or nit pick. I just find it interesting following all angles. You can find the main page from below... and follow if you wish... or pop in the bin. https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/news/view/416/20201029-solar-activity-on-the-rise.html -

Should be interesting. Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty have been summoned before MPs to explain the "evidence and rationale" behind the second national coronavirus lockdown. The chief scientific adviser and chief medical officer will face the science and technology select committee on Tuesday afternoon amid mounting concern that the graphs shown at a press conference on Saturday evening were out of date and alarmist. Also looking like kings vs Imperial. Steve Baker Mp twitter worth a nosey, and certainly a lot better than my waste of space mp. Also has anyone followed public sector tenders/contracts? The amount that the gov has been chucking at covid is staggering, I don't know who is in charge of deciding what needs purchasing and what amount. Maybe the have just followed the science, but if this second wave has near as dam it peaked, they are going to have egg on their face. The amount spent, added to cost of lockdown certainly makes it very high stakes imo. -

Wk42 unusual for October? Have you taking into account all those who have sadly died of varying causes through lack of treatment ? The pressure of these must be building going forward, added that winter helps no one. Unusual is the norm, and the more it carries on the more it is likely to compound deaths .... but as long as covid is on the cert -

Fantasy? Not at all, just incompetence, and lack of steely determination to get the job done. A lot of folk have been let down by the present system, while a few make out like bandits playing the system that they moulded to suit themselves. The system these bandits created, have given us less secure employment, increased child poverty, and whole raft of other negatives. And you preach more of the same? You want us to stay in Europe,? The very Europe that has Higher youth unemployment than us. What is so attractive about that. What is so attractive regarding Greece, Italy situation, and others. I'm not keen on Oban, but I respect that he tells it as it is. We need to be out. Then we need to build a society that is inclusive, where people feel more worthwhile and part of a better structure. The wealth gap is ridiculous at present. I'll also say, that if we stay, the majority of those students you see now with blue faces will in s few short years, you know the years when previous generations were thinking starting a family etc, it will dawn on them that they made a massive mistake. Snowflakes as they are unfortunately known, is sadly quite true. The Uk, where everything has nearly been sold off, where everything is on credit, even a decent education. And when given the vote, and against all the warnings and threats for all sides, including the president of the United States... the vote was to leave. And you along with many others have never accepted that. There is very little fairness in the EU, and here. It is extremely unlikely the British public can change the EU. The British public though can change the UK. And that is priceless

Not from my experience. I have a friend who accommodates foreign students, and the vast majority return, family and opportunities in growth areas. He actually met his wife through his buisness, she came over with her son to make sure that everything was exact to her liking. She still has her home and business abroad, and spends most of the year there. She is Chinese, a nice lady.
