  1. This kind of unethical selling makes me sick. Telling people lies to get them to buy what you want. Seen it so many times in so many walks of life. It's why I have an irrational hatred of sales people from the word go.
  2. I feel that the benefits I would actually make use of don't quite compensate for the cost I have to pay for the account, personally.
  3. I think you are quite right. The value of day's work will be much higher. Which is why I expect to work to some extent well beyond my state retirement age, whatever they eventually decide that that will be. That is if I'm fit and capable enough of doing so of course.
  4. Quite. But if my friend who's a teacher and my sister-in-law who's a nurse can do all this in retirement, why can't I?
  5. lol damn, my theory was proved wrong with this post, however.
  6. I have a theory on this. I had a couple of posts that didn't appear and it was when I'd clicked on preview post first and then clicked to add reply from the preview. If I chose to add post straight away without previewing it added no problem.
  7. Then the customers can't/won't pay for the product at that price. Then the business loses sales. Then it becomes insolvent. Then it closes down. Just a few more redundant employees in the dole queue then, oh well.
  8. Jesus H Christ. The forum's not that different is it??? Am I seeing something different to all you lot or something? The font has changed a bit, a couple of buttons are a different colour. Apart from that all the colours and format are the same. Grow up.
  9. Would the Tories have spent the last 12 years frittering away the country's finances on nothing? Yes or No.............
  10. You obviously don't know a lot about the cost of business rates for the average business.
  11. I don't see the problem. What's so "hard to read" about it? The font is clearer if anything. Much more modern looking. Took me a minute to find out where to sign in but apart from that I can't see anything to complain about really.
  12. Hey, it's a great post. But ultimately I'm still unsure whether you are saying you agree or disagree with the OP?
  13. I agree. There's a 9 year age difference between my parents. My dad took out his pension 2 years ago at the market peak and is laughing. Mum on the other hand is not looking forward to a very generous payout from her private pension when she retires in a few years. She worked out that she'd have to live to about 130 just to get back what she'd paid in.
  14. Me and hubby are about to buy a house. Offer accepted, mortgage agreed (got a good deal), just waiting impatiently to sign contracts now. For an extra £100 a month we are going to have a detached house that's about 30% bigger than our current rented semi, with all the following that we don't have now: one extra bedroom, a conservatory, a garage, newly fitted bathroom with seperate shower cubicle, newly fitted kitchen, nice views, much bigger & sunnier garden (south facing).... It's a no brainer. Also, I'm expecting our 1st baby in January so we felt the time was right for us. I can't wait to decorate the nursery, tee hee, cue sexist comments. We are prepared to lose some equity if prices fall further (the most likely scenario IMO) but as we're going in with a 27% deposit that was largely achieved from STR in early 2007, we are ok with that, our quality of life is going to be much better for a small increase in outlay each month. Not the right time for everyone but it is for us.
  15. Yes and it also says that drivers should stop when a pedestrian is waiting at a zebra crossing.
  16. 100% agree. I always drive defensively and am always aware that someone or something could dart out in front of my car at any time. Many people I see seem to drive as if they're in a vacuum. It's not just a child that could run out in front of you, a wild animal could do the same. Who'd be to blame then?
  17. Be careful before accepting the HMRC's version of events. I deal with them regularly as an employer and they have a habit of denying that they've receieved important documents like P45's that have always been sent. I used to resort to sending things by recorded delivery in the end, however nowadays we make electronic submissions for which I receive e-receipts but they still claim on occasion that they have no record of receiving the info. Incompetent bunch of imbeciles, the lot of them.
  18. VAT is going up by 2.5%, not the gross (or net) price.
  19. Wow, what a useful and informative thread this is. I think the mods should make it a sticky.
