  1. No one in the media seems to give a toss when they are gloating about rents rising (no concern for the renters not being able to afford food - after all they can just move can't they?!...) so they can all ******ing starve as far as I care.... They should have not taken out such stupid mortgages. This was all driven by greed so they deserve what they get. Apart from the small minority who are in the shit due to job losses - but I am sure this will be a minority. the rest pf them just a couple of years ago will have thought themselves so clever to have taken on a mortgage without considering interest rate rises sucked in by stupid property porn on the tv (yes they belived you Krusty... ridiculous as you seem to think that might be).
  2. That is quite a figure, where are the media?! A 10.3 rise would be frontpage news (no matter how spurious the data).....
  3. Evidence (if it was ever required) that there should be regulations regarding who is and is not allowed to be a LL. And also good reason why people hate renting so much in this country. If we had a Government who gave a toss about such things they would have reformed the laws in th is area to give more rights to the poor saps who are being forced to rent of *****ers.... NuLabour showed where they stood on this issue by doing nothing for 13 years and no one would expect the Tories to care too much.
  4. How about three and a half times the local average salary - that should encourage a bit of a better attitude to serving the people that they represent.... So for Barnsley about £60K would be more than generous? They certainly should not be getting as much as the Prime Minister no matter how useless the PM is.
  5. No chance of very much happening, tonight's football result is far more important....
  6. Yes, booming house prices are such a benefit to everyone. If only more people would realise how much better off the majority would have been (would be) with affordable house prices and rentals....
  7. I had a friend at University who was insistant that it was simply not possible to live without central heating.... I have also been to visit friends in London (most of who claim to be 'eco friendly') who have the heating on full at times of the year where here in Edinburgh I have my windows open permenently. Like everything, there almost certainly are those out there who really can't afford to heat their homes enough to keep them warm. There are also many many more who waste more power than they should be allowed to...
  8. Quite right, these silly foreign types just don't know how to run proper economies like ours. We are special and can simply print more and more money just whenever we feel like it. After all we have a 'no more boom or bust' economy - or at least we would have if those Nasty Tories had not messed everything up.....
  9. There is something funny going on though. There are lots of houses I see in and around Edinburgh that I think are 'fair' value but they are always at the top end of the market. No long ago there was a house in midlothian on the market with stables and a few acres (not that I was remotely interested in such a place) it was on the market for 'only' £500Kish which I actually thought was a reasonable price for what you were getting. Conversely there are tonnes of what I would suggest are 'overpriced' flats. I guess this is part of the BTL effect which has created an artificial market at the bottom. There are still people wanting £150K for a onebedroom flat in Morningside (though even there prices are slipping....)
  10. Yep, wage inflation in the last 10 years has been what? I dont know but no where near what it was in the 70's... We got the boom in prices and inflation but not in wages. But anyway, I thought everything was Thatcher's fault so this programme is totally incorrect...
  11. You have got it right there, hence so many expensive government agencies all telling us what to do. Here in Scotland I am getting a bit tired of radio/internet adverts telling me to not only register to vote but how to do it when I get there. All this for local government elections which will be lucky to get a turn out of 20% despite the advertising. I will not even start the rant regarding the number of trees wasted on the crap that is littering my hallway from all the main parties telling how great they all our for local people. They are all self serving morons as far as I am concerned and their petty comments about each other are presumably addressed to the morons (so presumably will be sucessfull as most folk these days seem to be morons) there are few real people in politics anymore, only drones who will repeat the party line until everyone just gives in and lets them get on with it. I will vote - I will always vote. But none of the shite from the four (inc SNP) in Scotland force through my door are good enough any more. We need a change of scene so I am at least looking into the alternatives. Sadly, where I live one has to only wear a red rosette to be elected no matter what they actually do for the population - as far as i can gather this is duck-all as it is just a step to a 'red coloured' seat in Westminster.
  12. Probably becuase if you have a larger trolley you are less likely to notice quite how much you are putting in it....
  13. That is depressing, I have no heard her on Radio 5 for a long time so thought that maybe they had realised just quite how dreadful she is. The news that they are still employing her makes me rather sad and long for the days when we at least had the amusement of the 'charity' website someone put up about her when she was pleading poverty (despite 'owning' several houses).
  14. It is very much an age thing. My predecessor in my job had been able to buy a flat on the salary on offer for the job (in fact probably on less than I was on as the post was regraded when she left) when I came to buying, the boom had kicked in big style and the salary was no longer enough to buy an equivalent place (I know all this as it is a small department and my boss had become good friends with both myself and my predecessor so I know she was of similar background/means to my own situation). Now the lucky ones have been able to hold onto to their FTB properties and have bought others based on joint salaries with partners and the profit from rental on the FTB type flats they were able to buy when they were affordable. In the past they would have sold the starter places but now they no longer need to as prices have gone up so much and they have a captive market for rentals. Unless something comes along to force the sales of some of these places then the next generation simply have nothing left to buy.
  15. Yes but a certain 'greatest ever' Chancellor stood in Parliament in his first (?) budget speech and vowed to not let house prices get out of control and affect the stability of the British economy..... He could have done something.... http://blogs.thisismoney.co.uk/2010/04/brown-i-will-not-allow-house-prices-to-get-out-of-control.html edited to add a link (sorry I didnt get his words quite right)
  16. Very true, this is why I wished that Labour had stayed in at the last election. The number of people I know who blame the Tories entirely for the current mess is quite frightning. If Balls and his chums had got in we would have gone the way of Greece by now yet I am sure somewhere along the line they would have twisted it all to blame the Tories anyway. This from the Mash is very much true of the opinions of many of my work collegues http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/politics-headlines/most-etonians-incredibly-well-educated%2c-say-experts-200912032278/
  17. Probably because they were priced out by the Beeny-style developers. I looked at a flat recently, it needs total renovation but is liveable in just about. When I went for a viewing I was told that most of the people who had been to look so far (alot of people) were builders/developers. They have deeper pockets than I do so I do not really have a chance - I may put an offer in though as it would not hurt but BLT and flippers are distorting the market.
  18. But houseprices cannot fall, these 'savvy investors' will not 'give' their investments away....
  19. Yep the smarter ones will, but there are still plenty who are braindead enough to think that Labour would have done a better job. (btw I am no longer a Tory voter as I think they are as bad as the other lot). I love catching Labour voters out though by stating how much I wish Labour had won the last election as they would have to sort their own mess out.... most think I am on the Tory voting end of the spectrum so seem to struggle to compute the very idea that I would have wanted Labour to win the last election.
  20. Well the years obviously have not been kind to him and he has certainly not lost any weight so maybe we will see a bust of a slightly different kind...
  21. + millions The BTL/credit boom kicked off just as I first got a proper job. I did not have the resources or the salary to compete with the 'investors' and instead was screwed. My predecessor at work had been able to buy on a similar salary and background (last I heard, she was renting the flat out whist she and her boyfriend had bought a house together) the housing ladder is broken, those on it pulled up the bottom rung some time ago.
  22. That is what I thought they would do, then they could of got away with 'it was all the fault of that idiot Labour Government'. For some reason they ran scared and instead of allowing the whole thing to drop back (I was sure they would allow IR's to rise even just a little bit to put an dampner on things) they have done little else than inflate the credit bubble further. Even worse they are borrowing even more money (admittadly not as much as that idiot Balls things we should...) and creating an even bigger crash in everything in a few years time....
  23. Shame the Guardian did not have the same opinion in 1997....
  24. Yep, I had to spend most of an afternoon filling in a risk assessment for a trade show we attend - we have a small stand that consists of little else than a carpet flooring some chairs/tables/posters and some highly dangerous folded A4 paper. I had to fill in all kinds of crap about trip hazards and training on heavy lifting. Multiply this by the many hundreds of exhibitors at the show and that must equate to many many wasted hours across the whole UK which would be totally unneccesary if people still had any common sense...
