Public perception of landlords - a small example
MancTom replied to ftb_fml's topic in House prices and the economy
He says that’s his interpretation and doesn’t sound like he has legal training. And it’s not what anyone else says. Random guy on internets opinion won’t be a good legal Defense. -

Exactly. If I knew the address would report it to the authorities. -

That’s not what all the links I find on google say. They all say this is illegal under current law. -

Servicing a gas boiler if you don’t have the qualifications. Or perhaps your boiler does not run on gas? -

That's illegal, and for good reason. -
yet he wants us to stop arming Ukraine in the name of peace. He knows perfectly well what will happen to civilians under occupation. But hey, as long as its against western interests it must be for the best in his world.

IKEA is dire what does it tell is about the west?
MancTom replied to spxy's topic in House prices and the economy
Ikea has always sold cheap, poor quality furniture. Out of cheap things I bought there 20+ years ago only one is good enough quality that I still have it. The more expensive items I bought from there are also going strong. And its the same today - if you buy their expensive furniture its much more likely to be robust and good quality, than a cheap billy book case. -

Personally I have had far more good ones than bad ones, and I needed to rent when I was younger so as far as I am concerned they provided a service and mostly did a good job of it. Nearly all the problematic ones were when I was a university student, seems to attract that type of person perhaps. -
The Range Rover bubble has bursted
MancTom replied to NoHPCinTheUK's topic in House prices and the economy
I can't understand why he wants to do it. He doesn't need the money and doesn't seem to care about others, so it's not public service. Is it just an ego thing? -

You can still buy steering locks? They are coming back into fashion because of new cars being easy to steal! Don't know if it makes it impossible, or just enough hassle they they will target someone else. -
Wonder how this will impact prices: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/jan/22/brexit-checks-existential-threat-uk-fruit-flower-growers Not sure why we need these new checks. If it's from the EU why would the risk have changed? If we didn't check them when in the EU surely it's just as probable people would import problematic things? Have seen claims that low quality, dangerous, food imports have increased from EU - but again surely without any checks they could have been doing this already without us ever knowing? I wonder if the problem is that EU producers have been sending us things they shouldn't, and we were not allowed to check when in the EU. Whilst now we can.

also didn't see them protest when we helped Saudi Arabia bomb the crap out of Yemen during the civil war.

They said that every time we escalated so far and never did it.

this is why I don't understand why we don't just arm Ukraine properly so they can finish the Russians off. They will be coming for NATO after Ukraine. And one day it could be us, only countries like Poland seem to have the military to fight them. None of the western countries would stand a chance without US backing - which will be gone if Trump wins. So we have a very narrow window to avert this line of events.

Reform Is the 2024 Dark Horse
MancTom replied to Social Justice League's topic in House prices and the economy
immigration numbers are not driven by fruit pickers, nor even people in boats. Some of the biggest categories are Ukraine, Hong Kong and NHS workers (all of order 100k or more per year). So it's actually pointless arguing about fruit pickers because even if you stop it, the impact won't be big. -

who are they then going to sell these expensive fruits too? Clients will just import it for a cheaper price. -
Will that stop the Houthis? They don't actually care about the Palestinians, its just a pretext.
-
relatively civilised? I would not call Nazi Germans civilised. Europeans are just as viscous as anyone else. And they have plenty of experience inflicting that on other regions of the globe too.

the government limits visas for soft fruit picking. Those industries have been lobbying to expand the cap given Brits won't do the jobs.
