  1. Really enjoy the work, creating something from nothing, thinking of new ideas/concepts which have never been thought of by another single person in the world. You can't get better job satisfaction than that. Design from initial back of an envelope to vhdl implementation, simulation, synthesis, not much experience of place & route. As well as the embedded firmware, tool development, high level models of the system etc As you know, not many opportunities in Edinburgh at the moment. Restricted on being able to relocate until partner finishes her course in nine months time.
  2. hey Thomas, you are in the same line of career as me, semiconductor design but I am more on the digital side than analogue. A few months ago, my start-up company folded (you probably know which company it was as we were Edinburgh based as well). Even though we had potential customers lined up ready for pre-production prototypes and design ready to be taped out, we could not get the VCs to commit to the round A before our funding ran out. Unfortunately / fortunately it sounds like you have the knack and there is no escape from engineering Dilbert - The Knack
  3. How about purchasing a couple of wendy houses. It will make good visuals for the TV/Papers With the comment: If we don't sort out the UK housing Problem This will be as close as the next generation can ever be to owning a home
  4. HovelinHove, It does not take much for a cultural movement to gain ground and change how things used to be done. No job is safe. For Example The third-year Temple University student refuses free lunches at his Philadelphia hospital. He won't accept free textbooks or stethoscopes, or even pens advertising brand-name drugs. The pen Pak uses says "PharmFREE." Pak vows that when he becomes a doctor, he won't have any dealings with drug reps. In the meantime, he is participating in a counter-marketing campaign. Pak and other med students are visiting doctors' offices and urging physicians to lear

  7. To confirm this, my partner who works in a smallish independent pharmacy is saying that the boots pharmacy a couple of streets down from them is closing in the near future. The owners of the pharmacy are happy as it will mean more trade for them.
  8. Three months ago an estate agent near where I live opened up a new branch. I had lots of leaflets through the post. This week I noticed the estate agency is empty with a nice big To Let sign attached to it. This is in the EH10 postcode.
  9. I dropped my glasses the other day and one of the arms had snapped at the end. So I ordered a new pair of the internet for the first time. Very easy, selected a frame, typed in the lens prescription from my last visit to the opticians. Within two days the new pair of glasses arrived on my doorstep. In total they cost me £30 You can't tell the difference between the old £120 pair and the new ones.

  11. At the moment, funding is from various sources, such as http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Business...port/16879/6953 http://www.nesta.org.uk/ Between us we still maintain 100% ownership of the company.
  12. Just to let you know, I am trying to do my little bit at correcting the UK trade deficit I am a co-founder of a new start-up semiconductor design company aimed to commercialise our leading edge academic research work. Patents of our work have been filed in various patent offices around the world. Recently, we have just gained the first round of some very substantial investment capital from several funding bodies and will be employing quite a few more engineers in the next few months to ramp up our company activities. However, we don’t directly manufacture the chips in UK but the designs ar
  13. Charlie the tramp, I used to work part time at a local supermarket in the fresh stock control department whilst studying. I was appalled on the amount of food which was thrown away at the end of the day. As soon as the store was shut, that was it we were not allowed to sell it on to staff or take home for our own consumption, it had to be destroyed. I was in charge of putting the “waste” food down the compactor, you can believe how unpleasent I found doing this part of the job going against my non wastefull nature. I made sure 30 minutes before the supermarket shut I put 5p stickers on al
