Previously used as a squat by some Romanians http://www.times-series.co.uk/archive/2014/02/10/10999320.Squatters_turn_public_toilet_into_makeshift_flat http://www.times-series.co.uk/news/11002468.Traders_had__no_idea__about_filthy_toilet_squat_just_yards_from_their_shops http://www.times-series.co.uk/archive/2014/02/11/11002495._It_s_sad_more_than_anything_else____dismay_after_squatters_found_living_in_public_toilet
  2. Article here about smartmeters and the real need for them being the upcoming fracking planned for us :- http://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/the-fracktured-future-of-water-millions-to-face-higher-bills-with-compulsory-water-meters-to-satiate-uks-thirst-for-fracking
  3. Yes, James O'Brien is an insufferable idiot at times, and I always switch off when he is in such a mood - he's got into the habit of talking over callers who disagree with his narrative. The other day he was trying to somehow justify the theft of money from people's bank accounts in Cyprus with the "who else is going to pay" line. Sad to say I've gone right off him. And yes, James Max is also extremely irritating when he goes into "ex-investment banker" mode - but he's OK when he avoids finance ! Nick Abbot is the best thing on radio - and also Anthony Davis is great too (is he an HPC reader
  4. I'm a Barnet resident and I oppose this move. It is a badly conceived dogmatically driven move which has not been drawn up properly and which will backfire and cost the residents of Barnet immensely in both a deteriorating service at greater cost over the next 10 years as it all falls apart. I have no faith in this being anything other than a handover of taxpayers cash to a corporate entity who will fleece Barnet and eat the council alive. A large number of services are being outsourced not just some backoffice functions. This is one of the biggest public sector outsourcing deals in local gove
  5. Sorry to bump an old topic but I saw this (presumably government ?) website advertised on TV :- http://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk which leads to a "rent or buy" section at http://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/should-you-rent-or-buy ..... and from there is a link to a "rent or buy" calculator :- http://www.greengem.co.uk/Rent_V_Buy/rent_v_buy.php Looks interesting and I'll certainly be having a play with it, but it's a bit more simplistic I think than some of the other ones on this (superb) thread. I'm looking for the best way to convince the missus that it would be financial s
  6. I dont understand how Teddy Sheringham did not know about this. Surely any letting agent is acting under the instruction of the landlord ? How is it possible for the agents to act like this without the LL even knowing ? It all sounds very odd.
  7. This blog has some good information also :- http://the2008olympics.blogspot.com
  8. It says in the article "Plymouth City Council carried out a 'Midas' check which revealed her savings, and in 2010, Ford was interviewed by the council and Department of Work and Pensions investigators". Does anyone know what a "Midas" check is ? I've done some digging and found the following technical document from 2004 but I can't see anything more. www.rightsnet.org.uk/pdfs/HB_CTB_A32_2003.doc
  9. James O'Brien on LBC97.3 discussing this right now with the housing minister "Schapps" and lots of calls in as well
  10. Would using one of the self-storage places such as "bigyellow" be an option for physical storage ? I've never used such a service but it does sound worth exploring - perhaps when going away for a couple of months holiday (in case home gets invaded by squatters or something !)
  11. I was about to post the same thing as the OP - quite remarkable to see such an article on yahoo. Also appearing at exactly the same time is this one "Why saving is a mugs game". http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/Why-saving-mug-game-yahoofinanceuk-1973579994.html
  12. ICT = Inter Company Transfer Visa, the mechanism by which big business, with the help of large taxpayer subsidies, imports cheap Indian IT slave labour under the guise of so-called "skills shortages", while tens of thousands of UK IT workers languish on the dole every year. Generously smoothed along with some nice bungs to MP's as well to make the ICT system work. Not reported or discussed in the mainstream media. And of course this makes ICT (Information and Communications Technology) as a subject not worthwhile for the youth of today to study, as all the jobs are going to Indians so what's
  13. The original analysis in the computerweekly blog is also expanded upon in here :- http://www.shout99.com/contractors/showarticle.pl?id=70191;n=10 (Unfortunately you have to join the site to see the replies) It refers specifically the article here :- http://www.mediafire.com/?6st7jdaqwz78wak Well worth a read !
