  1. there are a few of us lurkers in those deep waters! i saw the metro this morning and figured there would be a thread on it so just came for a nosey really...
  2. funnily enough, this is exactly what im doing for the next year, and a fine idea it is too!
  3. This is exactly what I've been thinking over the past few days - may well pile in to the FTSE this week...
  4. i cashed in half of my ftse all share tracker last year at about 6,300 and still have the money sloshing around - getting seriously tempted to jump back in now and certainly will if we hit 4,500... there are buying opportunities all over the place but its going to be a rocky ride!
  5. http://www.moneyweek.com/investments/prope...erms-13547.aspx well worth a read!
  6. A couple of years ago someone posted a link to a video about the history of money which was pretty interesting. I'm wanting to watch it again in light of the past years events but can't find the link - can someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks
  7. I am aware that HSBC have launched an Emerging Market Inflation Linked Bond Fund which I am considering sticking a bit into. However, I can't find out how to invest in it as it isn't clear from their website and the local branch didn't seem too clued up on it either... Any ideas anyone?
  8. Yes my old housemate emailed me the other day to say I was right all along as I went on about it so much last year. She then asked when will it hit the bottom, I suggested 2011ish and she replied 'oh thats a shame as I was planning on buying later this year - still think ill go ahead with it' !?!?!?!?!!?!?!? I really had to restrain myself from replying to that - theres just no helping some people.
  9. I'm another guitar player Rickenbacker 340 Jetglow Rickenbacker 4003 Bass Gretsch 6121 Roundup Vox AC-15 If I sold all of those I could have a house deposit! www.myspace.com/themoralkioskuk
  10. Don't take everything Merryn says as gospel - I bought a Japanese tracker partly due to her harping on about it and i'm a fair bit down on that 18 months later... She still maintains it is a great opportunity though so fingers crossed!
  11. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtm...25/ccinv125.xml worth a quick read
  12. 28 renting in a houseshare in london - got a very good deposit saved but think im off travelling for a couple of years after xmas and hopefully i'll return to find houses a bit more affordable...
  13. i watched a load of this last night, reminded me of a lot of my a-level economics, worth watching anyway, i have just cashed in all the profits i have made on on my uk all-share tracker since i opened it in 2003 (not just on the basis of this video but on a fair bit of research over the past few weeks and instinct...)
  14. just bumping this up for those who missed it last night as the link worth reading
  15. exactly, i've been agonising over whether to cash in a load of my stocks and shares isa funds over the past few weeks to protect my house deposit so have been searching around for various opinions not just those on here to make a more informed decision - not that im any closer to deciding!
  16. http://blog.iii.co.uk/?p=198 makes an interesting read... the moral kiosk www.myspace.com/themoralkioskuk
  17. I tried to do this earlier online but couldnt so I think im just going to have to cash them in on Monday. Bit of a shame to lose the tax-free status but would be more of a shame if there's a stock market crash and i hadnt got round to cashing them in! Definitely a good time for some profit taking i think... Its reassuring to know that others are doing the same
  18. i just came across this website this evening and there are a number of interesting articles - mostly bearish, so will probably appeal to most on this site! http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article1893.html is the link for the article on "UK Housing Market Crash of 2007 - 2008 and Steps to Protect Your Wealth"
  19. the graph is very interesting, but weren't the markets far more overvalued then than they are now? still think i might sell a load off tomorrow because all this volatility isn't good for my health!
  20. I'm not quite that bearish - think ill cash in all the profits for my uk all share tracker and move the original investment into a ftse 100 tracker...
  21. makes sense, thanks - im currently 70% stocks and 30% cash so could well be time for some rebalancing!
  22. Yes I certainly would have but its easy to get greedy when the going's good! I'm late 20s, single, living/working in London so no family to worry about and can therefore be afford to be a little risky. Im not losing any sleep over it but probably thinking about it more than is healthy! I'm not planning on buying a house anytime soon but building up a decent deposit so Im in a good position when/if the crash comes... Will give it some thought over the weekend and make a decision one way or another on Monday (if the bank holiday hangover isnt too bad!) The Moral Kiosk
