  1. Displace the existing British based Poles, Lats and Lithuanians onto the dole thereby ramping up the benefits bill? Can't see it will have much impact on house prices, as they will be beatnik poor, or are they all coming over with £250k in dosh?
  2. original purchase price 2003-11-21 181, Magellan House Armouries Way, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS10 1JP Flat, Leasehold, New Build add details... £160,000 recent price at auction Lot 122 1 November 2012 Auction Guide Price £50,000+ Result £91,000 Leeds 181 Magellan House Armouries Way West Yorkshire LS10 1JP
  3. This country will, over the next few decades, enter a period of slow (hopefully managed) decline. There is very little in the way of intrinsic wealth creation, "City of London" type jobs easily exported (just like IT/Call Centres before them). Becoming a bit of a cliche now but any "wealth creation" over the last decade seems to have centred around property ramping. The subject of "buggering off abroad" was discussed a few months ago and someone mentioned a certain South American country as a reasonable choice (I can't remember which one but it might have been Panama). Has anyone got experience of same?
  4. Something went badly wrong for LloydsTSB when they somehow had their arm twisted to take over HBOS. Must one of the greatest scandals of modern times but rarely gets a mention.
  5. Another odd one for a "mandatory" shop is gun sales which must, by law, be sold face to face (including air weapons).
  6. Did electrical engineering in the 80's and it was a full day Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri with Wed being a half day (for sports, etc) so I guess that must have been about 27hrs per week of lectures.
  7. Well remembered, I had forgotten about that thread (although seems that things are now unravelling at a far more alarming rate than in July 2009). Nevertheless, each sale at Centenary Mill now represents a multi x £10k loss for the original invester/homeowner (in a part of the country which is not exactly awash with money).
  8. sold 15/01/02: 81, Pleckgate Road, Blackburn, Blackburn With Darwen, BB1 8PN £59,950 ...and again 21/08/06: 81, Pleckgate Road, Blackburn, Blackburn With Darwen, BB1 8PN £140,000 ...and at auction 18/10/12: 81 Pleckgate Road, Blackburn vacant two bedroom semi detached bungalow Manchester 18/10/2012 £88,000
  9. sold 25/02/05: Apartment 137, Centenary Mill Court, New Hall Lane, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 5JH Flat, Leasehold, New Build add details... £137,696 sold at auction 18/10/12: 083 Apartment 137 Centenary Mill Court, New Hall Lane, Preston two bedroom fourth floor duplex apartment Manchester 18/10/2012 £53,000
  10. I'd go with that. My present double bedroom is 11' x 9.5' and there isn't room to swing a cat.
  11. DT, a little off topic but, if you can help, a question from myself please? We have video conferencing at work fed by 8 x 64k ISDN channels giving a max 512k connection. Does this sound like an "old hat" arrangement to you (the video quality is not brilliant, even though we have newish Polycom kit)?
  12. HOUSE prices in the Blackburn area have plummeted by more than a quarter in the last five years, the third worst drop in the country, new figures reveal. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/9960804.House_prices_crash_in_the_Blackburn_area/
  13. I see you have all the feckin' answers then!
  14. "This home is situated at the corner of Grove Green Road and High Road Leyton with 2 minuets walk to Leyton Station and 15 minuets to Bank Station." At least you can dance your way to work!
  15. +1 East Lancashire is riddled with the lazy feckers: "In a study by Local Alcohol Profiles for England (LAPE), Burnley, and Blackburn with Darwen, came third and sixth respectively for the number of incapacity benefit claimants whose main medical reason is alcoholism." link
  16. Yes, I tend to read "offers over" as "offers under". This property is on the same estate, (initially came to my attention on 02/12/07 for £249,950 and reduced in fairly gradual stages to "under offer" at £180k): wilton close 2 Originally sold 30/10/03 for £172,995
  17. Not massively out in the sticks but this property first came to my attention on 11/07/07 @ £649,950 (although on PB only goes back to 01/06/11). Progressively dropped to £490k (although was down to £475k at one point). A classic example of following the market down. property
  18. I keep a track on this estate which comprises "executive style" houses and flats. Tracking is a bit pedestrian as, although there have been many up for sale, very few actually sell. However, over the last few years asking prices have gradually drifted downwards and, with the example below, have now breached their 2003 original, new build, selling price. Originally sold 30/10/03 for £175k: new build Now on the market for £170k: Wilton Close
  19. Hmm, in the case of a GP, are you saying that there is no difference between someone who had spent 6 years studying the subject at university or some snotty nosed 18 year old? Or are you saying that you could take the same 18 year old and let him blunder through various hospitals for six years (hoping he didn't kill anyone in the mean time) and you would end up with a fully competent GP?
  20. link Hmm, I see Bristol City are at home again!
  21. That song must have given hope to millions of geeky blokes. The hope that, one day, they too could pull a hot chick!
  22. Hmmm, I tried to put up a more glamorous photo of Justine Greening to prove everybody wrong but I'm afraid I had to give up.
  23. +1 Always makes me seethe when I listen to the left wing w@nkers at the BBC interview Ed Balls. The questioning is so pathetic, the interview comes across more like a party political broadcast on behalf of the Labour Party. FFS is you can't get one over on a pr1ck like Balls you want to give up. Otherwise, despite his obnoxious stance, I didn't really think Paxman got anywhere much with his interview he just made himself look a d1ck.
