  1. Property near me, not up for sale, notice in window asking for £5000 upfront and then £800 pcm for the next 10 years and house is yours. Zoopla showing current value range £105,000, last sold nov 10 for £111,00 what do you think / comments??
  2. Bearing in mind what is happenign with RBS now, would you pull your funds from Tesco Savings?? Need advice /views on this asap - this is a shareholding/joint venture as opposed to full ownership, does that make a difference. Would you stay with Tesco - I know they intend to buy out but my impression was not until end of this year. Thanks!
  3. Have today opened HSBC current ac and am in process of transferring funds from Halifax as we speak! Would be interested for views on safety of Sainsburys Bank if this deal does not go ahead, with 50% ownership by BOS and 50% by Sainsburys, what impact is failure likely to have on the stability of this bank and safety of funds? would also like to thank everyone for their input on this website, have learnt so much in last couple of years. Do not post very often as still feel far too ignorant, but definitely more informed than many of my peers!
  4. thanks peter, i was aware of that, however would rather avoid hassle of trying to get my money back if I can avoid it!! suppose just don't know if I ought to get new current ac and move savings or whether others consider that hbos will become another northern rock at the worst and I at least don't have to go through aggro of having to change current ac etc! as previous would love to hear other's thoughts on this as in bit of a quandry as best course to take...
  5. have just checked halifax online and seems ok. i am concerned though - my current ac is with halifax (and just got paid today) plus have savings in sainsburys (part owned BOS). advice welcome!!
  6. (already posted on barclays thread but perhaps this is more appropriate- sorry for duplicate!) i have been reading this site with interest for a couple of years now and although cannot claim to understand half of the economic / financial / institutional investor stuff on here, have certainly learned a lot have been out of housing market almost 10 years now (mistake!!) and am sitting with reasonable deposit waiting for hpc to happen. however am getting more concerned about whether I need to worry out splitting my savings between different providers in case things get rough - this sort of pos

  8. Are we seriously saying cash is not safe. I have a considerable (to me anyway) deposit with Tesco Savings - is this not wise?
  9. don't know if this has been mentioned as I have not read all the messages on this thread.. BUT i did hear on the news the other day (Thurs I think) that a cat somewhere had caught the H5n1 virus Birds are getting their revenge
  10. i too searched for news of my dream for the future - house price crash - in google Echo the thoughts of others - at least I'm not alone
  11. Thanks for the reply Karhu. You say separated by a few years, how many years are we separated from the crashes in Australia / US would you say then? thanks EB
  12. Hi. Visit the site regularly (daily - am now addicted!!) and wait patiently (desperately) for the HPC to occur. I am not an economist and although I endeavour to make sense of all the posts that quote CPI, IRs, gold, unemployment and try to relate them to HPC, I do not understand the connection to other countries. Please explain how US etc housing crashes (as they now seem to be) will impact on us? In laymans terms please. Thanks BTW - laymans explanation of how all economic indicators (which seem to come in almost hourly) will impact HPC would also be good - like graphs very much ma
  13. appreciate the welcome sentiments BUT I AM A WOMAN and that is a bit offensive Limpet!
  14. just wanted to add to my original message (but new to this so could not work out how to edit it!). I too eagerly await HPC (hence the username!) - should I take this as a good sign, bearing in mind these are people at the coal face? Are other people aware of similar things elsewhere - I am Kent based
  15. A close relation of mine works in a solicitors in the residential conveyancing section. Have been very quiet since last quarter of 2005. Staff were called into meeting on friday to be told that a fee-earner (handling residential conveyancing) was to be made redundant. Relation has worked there several years and is not surprised this is happening. Also told me that local estate agents which normally give them up to 10 new clients a week have only been heard from 2-3 times since beginning of December. Also the case with other well known national agencies. Signs of things to come?...
