This thread is brilliant 😂 let’s be real, actual labour voters won’t vote for anybody else but labour no matter how right the leader goes. Indoctrinated.
I contacted my local Labour party to say that Starmer had finally confirmed the loss of my vote and got this amusing segment as party of the reply:
".... all he was trying to convey was that mission driven politicians possessing convictions, however unpalatable they might be, tend to be more effective than self-serving opportunists prepared to say anything to secure support..."
They really need to read that back!

Key word is 'voluntarily'. I'd take a chance if it gave hope of a more secure future thanks to money saved.

Fancy new features are bad enough, but I hate it now that you can fail an MOT for an error relating to a function that other cars don't even have.
Eg. Airbags. I get they are important (and not exactly fancy, but for point of illustration): why should a car be an MOT fail for an airbag warning light (which could relate to any of the secondary bags, not just driver), when other cars don't even have them?
...And you can even choose to intentionally disable the passenger one in the very same vehicle! It just forces a compulsory and potentially expensive repair bill on the owner at a time they might struggle to afford it.

The government have helped to see massive demand maintained, even if the ability of consumers to pay is eroded.
As much as a crash would be a good thing, I think we'll just continue to see more affluent people forced to buy smaller and worse specification houses, maintaining a plateau.
-
Do developers have a portfolio of house designs they can use depending on location? Eg. In case the local authority demands something more aesthetically pleasing? Some new builds can look quite nice, and how much extra could it cost to add those little embellishments that make some older homes look really pretty? Alas the ones near me look really naff.

Wow that's depressing. I really wish I hadn't looked.
If only there was a choice to opt between a planet where natural balance and sustainability was valued, and the planet that most people wish for, where humans come first at all costs and will one day be ankle deep in the consequences of their avarice.

Good to see the Tories have gotten net immigration down to tens of thousands after 13 years in power.
Well, it's is still tens of thousands, just a shame it's about seventy of them.

Do they not ultimately own a claim to freehold properties too?

The standing charge inflation too. Wtf?? It's not like you can save a vast amount by cutting back usage anymore either!

They never were competitive! The hedging strategies they employed to make their wafer-thin margins were undone simultaneously by a spike in wholesale energy costs.
Exactly. If there was true competition it would drive prices down to a minimum and there would be no need for a cap. All it does is act as a ceiling for what they can get away with fleecing us for.

One of the several reasons I find it hard to congratulate people who celebrate success at school/university:
"Congratulations, you just worked hard and earned the chance to probably spend the rest of your working life helping to subsidise the kids in your year that couldn't give a ****"

I'm not sure. That wealth can only be tapped into:
- if you're a BTL landlord or get lodgers in
- You're gonna sell it and buy something cheaper
- Your equity gone up from re-mortgaging
- Someone died and left you their inheritance
Where would you spend the monies from house profits other than another house?
Yeah I thought that sort of thing after I posted, should really have qualified it by saying 'think they have...'

High house prices are of course the elephant in the room that feeds into every corner of our high cost low value for money country.
It's almost the only wealth some people have, but it's also slowly eating them.

Having recently experienced the pressure the NHS is operating under first hand, maybe it is in fact the time to keep taxes exactly the same (or even increase them), and actually invest in public services for ******* once??

Trump will get the vote in a years time and then we will see what America is going to become. The Democrates backing Joe is a massive mistake that they are now accepting.
Trump and Starmer are looking like the new leaders, but why don't I feel like this is progress?
I think hot war is looming on the horizon and many players have itchy trigger fingers.........
If Trump gets in again, the next war will be civil.

Disgraceful. Anybody implying support for his behaviour needs to join him in jail preemptively.

Hmm, depends what you're comparing with.
Tesla Model Y is about the same as an Audi Q5, and much cheaper to run.
But sure, economy cars are still much cheaper to buy.
And used mk1 Nissan Leafs are a few grand now...
Sure the range isn't for everyone, but not many people regularly full up a car expecting to immediately go 30 or 40 miles on a regular basis, and anyone that does probably does so for a worthy job that isn't going to be paying peanuts.

Yeah. I never realised a lot of garages won't repair electric cars. I asked my local independent how many EVs they get through and they said they wont carry out work on them beyond an MOT
Job preservation? Scared they can't continue to make a living from fleecing people for themaintenance and repair of an overcomplicated and soon to be obsolete tech.

One of my biggest issues is that debate almost entirely circles around the impact of human population trends upon humans only.
We are collectively responsible for one of, if not *the*, greatest mass extinction events this planet has ever seen. This planet is the only one that we know of that sustains complex life, and could conceivably be unique (although I don't subscribe to this).
All the same, we might well be obliterating most of the only life that exists in the universe. The more of us there are, the worse it gets.

Many buildings could be modified to incorporate this principle, particularly if denser fluids are employed. There's also research going into storage using rotating mass.
