Pumped storage ok where are we building all these Dinorwigs and how much will it cost

Many buildings could be modified to incorporate this principle, particularly if denser fluids are employed. There's also research going into storage using rotating mass.

This thread is brilliant 😂 let’s be real, actual labour voters won’t vote for anybody else but labour no matter how right the leader goes. Indoctrinated.

I contacted my local Labour party to say that Starmer had finally confirmed the loss of my vote and got this amusing segment as party of the reply:

".... all he was trying to convey was that mission driven politicians possessing convictions, however unpalatable they might be, tend to be more effective than self-serving opportunists prepared to say anything to secure support..."

They really need to read that back!

  3. Fancy new features are bad enough, but I hate it now that you can fail an MOT for an error relating to a function that other cars don't even have.

Eg. Airbags. I get they are important (and not exactly fancy, but for point of illustration): why should a car be an MOT fail for an airbag warning light (which could relate to any of the secondary bags, not just driver), when other cars don't even have them?

...And you can even choose to intentionally disable the passenger one in the very same vehicle! It just forces a compulsory and potentially expensive repair bill on the owner at a time they might struggle to afford it.

It’s just a long downward sloping line.

    Wow that's depressing. I really wish I hadn't looked.

If only there was a choice to opt between a planet where natural balance and sustainability was valued, and the planet that most people wish for, where humans come first at all costs and will one day be ankle deep in the consequences of their avarice.

They never were competitive! The hedging strategies they employed to make their wafer-thin margins were undone simultaneously by a spike in wholesale energy costs.

Exactly. If there was true competition it would drive prices down to a minimum and there would be no need for a cap. All it does is act as a ceiling for what they can get away with fleecing us for.

I'm not sure. That wealth can only be tapped into:

    1. if you're a BTL landlord or get lodgers in
    2. You're gonna sell it and buy something cheaper
    3. Your equity gone up from re-mortgaging
    4. Someone died and left you their inheritance

Where would you spend the monies from house profits other than another house?

Yeah I thought that sort of thing after I posted, should really have qualified it by saying 'think they have...'

Trump will get the vote in a years time and then we will see what America is going to become.  The Democrates backing Joe is a massive mistake that they are now accepting.

Trump and Starmer are looking like the new leaders, but why don't I feel like this is progress?

I think hot war is looming on the horizon and many players have itchy trigger fingers.........

If Trump gets in again, the next war will be civil.

Hmm, depends what you're comparing with.

Tesla Model Y is about the same as an Audi Q5, and much cheaper to run.

But sure, economy cars are still much cheaper to buy.

And used mk1 Nissan Leafs are a few grand now...

Sure the range isn't for everyone, but not many people regularly full up a car expecting to immediately go 30 or 40 miles on a regular basis, and anyone that does probably does so for a worthy job that isn't going to be paying peanuts.

  9. One of my biggest issues is that debate almost entirely circles around the impact of human population trends upon humans only.

We are collectively responsible for one of, if not *the*, greatest mass extinction events this planet has ever seen. This planet is the only one that we know of that sustains complex life, and could conceivably be unique (although I don't subscribe to this).

All the same, we might well be obliterating most of the only life that exists in the universe. The more of us there are, the worse it gets.
