  1. This quote makes me uncomfortable. No need to say "like all donations". Just another Tory casually telling us the right way to think.
  2. A level remotely approaching inflation would be a novelty..
  3. I can sympathise to be honest, but should be a refundable deposit instead.
  4. Does anyone know where I can find a definitive wage inflation, preferably presented between two dates please? After just over two years without a pay review my employer just handed out a wonderful 5%... I'm not convinced how happy we should be about that.
  5. It had better do. Made sense at first but now it's just billions of pounds being thrown at keeping asset prices high, among other things. Also I resent people being paid huge sums to do nothing and thought Tories wouldn't countenance such a thing. I've said before, but imagine the gnashing of blue teeth if Corbyn was in power and had introduced a furlough scheme as generous as this!!
  6. I don't like this notion of 'temporary' inflation - things don't suddenly get cheaper again once it's over!!!
  7. Jeez the person that designed the keyboard really didn't factor in predictive text 😕
  8. Without wishing to sound contentious, had anything really changed? The same applies, but moreso...
  9. To be quite honest, I think I would. The market back then rewarded the frugal, or those that saved up a large deposit. Now it only rewards the reckless.
  10. Are 'housing costs' not very different to 'cost of a house' ? I'd be more than happy to take a pay cut of 50% if houses were 2 or 3 times my income rather than 6+ (or whatever it is now)
  11. Worried about losing money on a house, but happy to spend thousands a year on a "YOU WILL NOT OWN THIS VEHICLE"
  12. Sorry to read that and I can empathise. Hope all is well in your new(ish) place. If only there was a way to blast a bit of spirit-sapping reality back at the ******* responsible for causing so much heartache.
  13. Have you ever considered a career as a motivational speaker? 🤣
  14. Do you mind me asking where in the Midlands you are? It's a big place, but I am from your neck of the woods too, so may be able to give some pointers of you're moving to a new area I'm familiar with. More generally, if you're moving to an area you don't know well then renting may be a sensible thing to do so you can get to know the place before committing. I moved back up here a few years back, initially to a market town in Shropshire. Glad we didn't buy straight away as despite looking alright on paper, the town was a bit ropey and it was good to be able to escape with minimal fuss.
  15. Can you even *begin* to imagine the backlash from the blue benches - and probably a significant chunk of the population - if a Corbyn led government had been elected and then spent more than a year paying millions of people 80% wages to do nothing???? It was a nice idea at first, but as one of the many non-key workers dragged into work through all of this to do 'essential' activities (for my employer), I want my free lunch now.
  16. Is this a creeping nationalisation of the housing 'market'?
  17. The government have managed to engineer a house price boom out of a global pandemic. Anybody still in any doubt about the government's priorities needs to have their head looked at.
  18. For the voters Boris cares about, falling house prices represent economic failure. Boris doesn't like 'failure'; therefore, don't bet against him throwing the kitchen sink at the market to keep things looking rosy. There's a massive magic money tree when it suits the agenda.
  19. Oh I don't know.... If people have put their lives on the line for a country, then the last you can do is something like this. They should roll out a red carpet for some of them after the things they've endured in our name.
  20. Not the sort of place you want to hear a door creaking open by itself in the middle of the night, then?
