  1. Almost certainly a troll. But right now STR would be the way forward for anyone lucky enough to own their own place.
  2. English Housing Survey: The rise of Generation Rent and workers relying on housing benefit Every year, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) carries out its English Housing Survey. Researchers look at the statistics to discover trends and changes in England's housing market, from social renting to home ownership. And the 2014/15 survey is now out. Here are the eye-catching findings. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/english-housing-survey-rise-generation-rent-workers-relying-housing-benefit-1544914
  3. If they win the government would appeal to the house of lords. It could easily take over a year. Until a final court decision is implemented by the government landlords are obliged to pay.
  4. Eg, hottest spot was Kensington and Chelsea. £865k to £1.3m. Only in estate agent land can that be called doubling.
  5. any predictions as to how far this will bring prices down? 500,000 will flood the market with supply. demand is about to go disappear with no landlords buying. looks like a bloodbath. prices in freefall by the summer?

  7. Haha, this is true. The BTL brigade are being stitched up like kippers and they can't see it. Just to remind ourselves, the lawyers are telling them they can get a declaration of incompatibility against the legislation. The law itself says: (6)A declaration under this section (“a declaration of incompatibility”)— (a)does not affect the validity, continuing operation or enforcement of the provision in respect of which it is given; and (b)is not binding on the parties to the proceedings in which it is made. So an absolute waste of their time and money. I suspect you're right, that the lawyers know full well what they're doing. It would be a scandal in any other context that they are taking money in this case. But here their widely-despised pariah clients deserve all they get.
  8. A few minutes research reveals that these declarations of incompatibility are 100% toothless, and are routinely ignored by the government: Section (4)(6) HRA: (6)A declaration under this section (“a declaration of incompatibility”)— (a)does not affect the validity, continuing operation or enforcement of the provision in respect of which it is given; and (b)is not binding on the parties to the proceedings in which it is made. The lawyers running this case do not know their @rse from their elbow. They will be laughed out of the court room.
  9. Neither the landlords nor the lawyers appear to have the first clue over what they're doing.
  10. Excellent find. Basically, their case blown out of the water and left in ruins. Can anyone please explain to me why the case has got this far when a member of this forum with access only to Google is able to disprove if? It's quite clear that Cherie Blair has not even read the Human Rights Act.
  11. I'd love to hear the Daily Telegraph try to reconcile this story with its disgraceful propaganda campaign to whitewash the scandal of BTL tax "expenses" and derail clause 24.
  12. The annihilation of the hated private rentiers and their parasitical grasping continues: http://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jan/27/legal-general-to-build-and-rent-out-3000-new-uk-homes
  13. This was a great improvement. Before this, it was a regular occurrence for trolls, estate agents etc to dredge up old posts containing predictions of price falls and quote them totally out of context to try to discredit people. They were invariably exposed, but it got tiresome.
