  1. She's living in Dorset but bought in London as an accidental landlord with a BTL mortgage. Hmm. I'm sure we'll all be crying into our bowls of cornflakes when she gets put on the SVR and her £290 a month interest becomes £700.
  2. I've not seen this posted yet - fresh from the PCL HPC coal face, the Knight Frank March 2017 London map: https://kfcontent.blob.core.windows.net/research/734/documents/en/march-2017-4588.pdf PCL 12 month price change -6.4% PCL 12 month rent change -4.9% Slam-a-lam-a-ding-dong.
  3. What happened to inflation in that time? Also, that's not the time period you initially mentioned. Plus there are more than five people following this. I am enjoying it though ?
  4. Meanwhile, over at Poverty118: https://www.property118.com/interest-restriction-impact-high-rate-earners-help/93644/ Oh dear.
  5. Deutsche Bank settles for $7.2bn: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-38412816 Share price at 18.2.
  6. Did anyone else notice that the lovely landlords over at 118 voted 59% in favour of brexit? www.property118.com/eu-referendum-how-landlords-voted/88090/
  7. Tenant Tax is an absolute joke. I like to call it a tax for the Removal OF Leveraged Landlords, or ROFL Landlords Tax for short.
  8. Have saved hard, avoided debt like the plague and invest using a boglehead philosophy. Career-wise I hopped back and forth across the Atlantic in the 2000s and have been back in the UK for the last six years. Now work in a private school where my (very nice) accommodation is provided so I have very few monthly outgoings that are not food and drink related! Love the job and happy doing it for many, many years to come. One solution to the HPI mega-madness that has worked in my case. I would not have moved back from the USA without this job perk. Hope to buy one house in my lifetime, for cash, to live in for the rest of my days.
  9. I wonder how Connie would feel about her tenants deciding "en mass" to stop paying rent to her!
  10. Also, the modelled BTLer may have also had to pay SDLT upon purchase (depending on the purchase price of course), further reducing the profit.
  11. Unfortunately for Connie then the changes will put her into the 40% tax bracket from her rental income so her business model is going to be losing money. She seemed oblivious to this until another landlord pointed it out to her. The last thing she should do is give up productive work!
  12. I wonder how many BTL landlords currently in the 20% tax bracket will be pushed over the child benefit and tax credit thresholds by the new way of calculating their taxable income, in addition to being screwed by the mortgage interest changes.
