  1. The absolute scenes if they drop at 0.5% increase. Likely 0.75, should be much more
  2. £45k will barely pay for childcare and rent/mortgage in most of the country. A lot of people here sadly fall into the boomer category and have no idea of the costs people under the age of 40 face. 45k will net you £2,557.26 pcm after your student loan and 5% pension has been taken out. If you have one kid under 5 and need childcare, you're looking at £1000pcm. Average rent price is £1100pcm. The idea its cars on PCP and avocados is nonsense. The tories have made work not pay. The alternative is a party who will make work not pay even more. The economy is ******ed and there is no way out
  3. We could have a tough winter where we heat public places and encourage people to spend time there, and offer a minimum level of support. Probably do it for under 10 billion and then use the remaining 150 billion to make sure we're never in this situation ever again. This is one of the most stupid policies ever, I don't believe its real. It's worse than eat out to help out
  4. Yes. It doesn't require a genius to understand what is causing high inflation. We shuttered factories, reduced efficiencies and added barriers to production, trade, etc over the past 2 years with Brexit and Covid. Meanwhile we increase the monetary supply. How could these two things not cause inflation? The war in Ukraine is just the cherry on top.
  5. Lets hope the direct support to pay everyones bills is sustainable for 5 years then. 100 billion a year * 5? What could go wrong.
  6. Does this tie nicely to Macron's the end of abundance line? How can this situation possibly carry on.. Is the tax payer supposed to heat 6 million homes at £600 pcm? Doesn't seem possible to me
  7. This is the part I struggle with, with all of these bailout schemes being suggested. What if energy prices stay high for 5 years, 10 years etc? We've no guarantee they'll come back down. Seems suicidal to spend all that money hoping its temporary.. we need to spend the money making sure we're never in this position again. Then again, we saw what happened with covid, we spent hundreds of billions on everything EXCEPT for making people healthier, so god knows what they'll do.
  8. The new price cap feels like its doable, people will have to make sacrifices, have the heating on less etc but its not totally unaffordable for people who work + rich pensioners. If you've been on bennies for longer than 6 months imo you should be getting 0 help beyond get a job, times up on life on benefits being a lifestyle. However, the 6k cap that is being muted is just too much, perhaps the gov think (or hope) that the Russia conflict will have reached some conclusion by then, or they'll at least turn the gas back on?
  9. https://combrotechnology.com/products/lenovo-thinkpad-x280-i5-8th-gen-16gb-256gb-ssd?variant=40304688889996&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw3qGYBhBSEiwAcnTRLpQ_I2uynksjT5wWIoT-1gktdp6GHuh4eN_f7TpuvNFcctAop6agVBoCZ0wQAvD_BwE He can have his heating on for 30 minutes with the change
  10. If the gov does nothing on energy prices, won't that have the same effect as raising interest rates? Demand will be destroyed by that alone, raising interest rates ontop of that isn't just demand destruction its cratering the entire economy.
  11. Yeah. Not exactly a mystery is it. Their parents ate a good diet, and maintained a healthy diet, meanwhile most of us are fat, eat garbage, pour booze down our throats..
  12. I dont know if I'm burying my head in the sand with this comment, but I do not believe these prices will come to pass. No where in Europe will be able to pay this. If we get close to £600pcm bills a deal will be done with Russia.
  13. The article as always leaves out so many details. 'Gemma' has had the mortgage for 17 years, yet has been unable to remortgage? How much capital does she have in the house if she has been paying a mortgage for 17 years? It makes no sense that she is unable to remortgage else where. If she is on interest only give the keys back and cut your losses.
  14. That whole thread is infuriating. I don't think anyone is suggesting poor people shouldn't have anything nice, but perhaps they shouldn't have 5 bedroom houses that most working people could only dream of?
  15. They're almost certainly going to do the same with energy bills. Free money for everyone..wait why does this sandwhich cost £20?
  16. 100% I didn’t even bother going for the last promotion at work. With student loan, pension contribution I don’t even see half in my payslip. Earning over 60k I’ve lost child benefit. We’re a country that doesn’t reward work and the morons that run it are surprised when people cba any more
  17. There would definitely be calls for government intervention. We're at that point now
  18. I agree with both of your points, it just seems like taxing the rich will never happen. Because lets face it, a lot of the rich are actually an 80 year old woman sat in a 4 bed in London. Taxing her would be making her move, and both sides of the media will crush the government if they ever make someone over the age of 60 live within their means
  19. I have a mortgage of 260kish with two sub accounts. Refixed one of the sub accounts on Friday and got 3.35% for five years, this is at 60% LTV. It could go up or down but i'm comfortable with that over the next 5 years. It has increased payment around £50 pcm. Owch!
