  1. Gordon Brown's generosity?????? I'm going to be paying for his generosity, even though I absteined from the greed that led to this problem!! . How about I steal a few grand from Gordy's wallet and buy everyone at HPC a drink? Oh, sorry...that would be theft wouldn't it.
  2. Just tried to make an appointment with my business bank to open a new account to deposit some funds. My 'relationship manager' can't fit me in this week because they are so busy "due to people desperate to see us because they have money problems in the current financial climate." I mentioned the bulging town centre, and the RM gave a quiet laugh and said "no, there's definately a recession on and a lot of people are struggling." Seems there is a two tier effect happening as a previous poster pointed out. The Wealth Creators are in trouble, while the spongers are not seeing any difference, apart from Gordon's propoganda machine telling them to spend more as a consequence of the reduced VAT, and not to worry about honouring your debt to the bank (RBS) for at least six moinths because no repossession action will be taken. Wealth Creators will then be hit by bigger taxes to pay for it all! A kick in the teeth for decent, honest, hard workers I say!
  3. Sorry chaps....showing my ignorance, but what does the TLA "TFH" mean???
  4. Sorry chaps....showing my ignorance, but what does the TLA "TFH" mean???
  5. Parallels with countries that still have strong religious beliefs. Worshippers killed in the stampede etc. Sunday shopping at The Mall is the new Church.
  6. I think all surveys and statistics are flawed. Remember a few months ago when inflation was 2.5%, when at the same time fuel costs were increasing by 20%? The figures are selected as a means to an end. If I was to be very cynical about this, I would say that this situation is being managed by a small group of extremely wealthyand powerful individuals for their own personal gain. Why else would the price of sound businesses plummet and suddenly bounce back for no good reason?
  7. Gee. Didn't realise I lived in such an impoverished area Come to think of it, there is a greater proportion of Chav element wandering the streets, and when we went for Sunday lunch at an upmarket hotel we were the only ones in there apart from a well dressed elderly couple who spoke like aristos, so you could have a point.
  8. For all the doom and gloom, shopping in Shrewsbury is hell. People everywhere, queues at the checkouts, carparks full. Doesn't stack up when you see all the doom and gloom in the media. Is this phenomena unique to Shropshire??
  9. This is the green light for the scroungers and insurance policy abusers to live rent free for 6 months plus with impunity. Why did RBS have to publicly announce this, rather than offering it in private to deserving individuals after branch consultation?? Reason:- It's another New Lab spin story to make it look like they care. Reality:- It exposes RBS to be a weak, poorly governed institution, obvious to any astute investor.
  10. Like most others on here, I avoided BTL like the plague. Looks like I'm involved anyway now, because as a taxpayer I'm going to have to bail out B&B and their greedy landlord customers!!
  11. Ahem...I did. And cheap wooden flooring because Carol Smillie told them to do it.
  12. Thick gullible people who trust the opinions of others (Sarah Hasbeeny, piers, the TV) rather than working it out for themselves. Hence loads of houses with cold, noisy wood-lookalike flooring, hot-tubs, plasma TV's (B&O say the quality of CRT still surpasses plasma), a different colour "Amercan Style" fridge every year. MDF stuck to the walls, and .... overpriced houses (investments???, remember when they were homes?). Good rule of thumb...if everyone is running in one direction, check what they're running away from before you join in.
  13. To the Gurus.... Like energy, money doesn't disappear, it simply transfers from one place to another, so one persons 'bust' is another persons 'boom'. With this in mind, can anyone answer this? 1. Banks say they need a £40billion bailout. Obviously the money has been taken away from these organisations, but where has it gone to? In this scenario, someone or some group of people is/are £40billion better off. 2. When the Bank of England says it will inject £40billion into the market, where does it get it from? Does it just create it from thin air, or does it have reserves which it has earmarked as 'risky, probably won't get it back,' that it can issue? 3. The FBI is investigating certain individuals from high profile investment banks. If individuals are found guilty of fraud, then can the proceeds of their crime be confiscated and paid back to the various governments so that us law abiding tax payers don't end up picking up the tab? 4. Capitalism is supposed be about survival of the fittest. I run my own business, and I'm sure that if I gambled and squandered my business funds, I doubt any banks or governments would come to my aid. Surely the current state of affairs is a form of Communism? Thanks in advance, have a good weekend. Regards, Careful saver who never went into BTL, makes sure he earns more than he spends, gives good service to customers who keep coming back for more, and could work out that everything cycles, so a big rapid upturn outside the norm will usually result in an equal(ish) opposite downturn.
  14. Agree to a point, but the girl was an innocent in all of this. Perhaps the judicial system should carry some of the blame for not locking him up before he hurt so many others. I speak from experience where, what I can only describe as a 'pathological liar' took my Company down. He knew how to play the courts, and even bounced a cheque to the court (it took them 8 weeks to realise). In the end, he used stalling tactics on the courts to buy time to transfer assets and wind up his Company. *******! He has since done the same to three other Companies, but the courts seem powerless to stop him.
  15. I never knew these people, but his is a truly sad state of affairs and I think we should be showing a little more respect to the living relatives. What really gets me is that someone could kill a fifteen year old girl.......because of money problems??? Greed was one of the original sins, and this is a classic example of where it can lead.
  16. I think it's a fantastic idea! I thought HPC was based around a dislike of greed (among other things). Second home owners are partly to blame for the destruction of rural communities, so any deterent the government can offer has my backing.
  17. Is this the same Jonathan Maitland who 12 months ago was reporting for Trev McDonald on the rise in BTL? He admitted to having 6 properties himself and was making a fortune. So long as it is more balanced than the BBC News 24 effort earlier this week, where they 'reported' that the big winners from house price crash are the BTLers. Reason...1st time buyers can't get a mortgage so are forced to rent, and BTLers with existing portfolio's and good credit ratings will borrow more money and snap up the bargains. Hmmm.
  18. Since the demise of social engineering and the over-emphasis on 'Human Rights', people who were otherwise taught how to behave and live have been allowed to 'free-run.' "I keep getting offers of credit through my door"......... you could always take personal responsibilty and say no! 14 year olds are taught the finer points of sex education, they're given access to contraception. But they're still getting pregnant and catching STD's. How about binning the open approach and advocating ABSTINENCE? "There is an abundance of food. That's why I'm fat". ....... again you could always take personal responsibilty and say no! As a society, we are going backwards.
  19. Evening All, Inflation, we're told is running at 2.1%. As I understand it, it is purely a measure of % increase in the cost of living. Essentials that most people have to buy include: Vehicle Fuel, which has increased from 85p to 107p over the last year, i.e. 20% Food and other goods that are transported using this fuel Gas/Electricity that has increased by 15-20% Council Tax, that has increased on average by 5% Mortgage interest payments that have increased by 40% How can inflation only be at 2.1%? I'm ready for the flack if I'm being a little dim here. Be gentle. Cheers
  20. At todays PMQ's, an MP states that first time buyers in his constituency are being priced out of the market by 2nd (and more) home owners, with many houses lying empty. When will tax measures be put in place to help to curb this and free up more housing? Answer from Gordon...."There is nothing wrong with the housing market....there is just undersupply.....we will be building more homes to counter this. Next!" You don't think this could be the anything to do with donations from millionaire "property developers"??? Unbelievable! (I tagged this onto the bottom of another thread, but felt it deserved its own place on the BB).
  21. Brown has really lost the plot! At PMQ's, an MP states that first time buyers in his constituency are being priced out of the market by 2nd (and more) home owners, with many houses lying empty. When will tax measures be put in place to help to curb this and free up more housing? Answer from Gordon...."There is nothing wrong with the housing market....there is just undersupply.....we will be building more homes to counter this. Next!" You don't think this could be the anything to do with apeasing "property developers"??? Unbelievable!
  22. Is that a picture of a Pole dancer??
