  1. Could someone with more time or skill than me make a speadsheet that shows the published indexes MoM and what it would have looked like had the figures not be revised for each press release? Or given that it probably already exists, show me?
  2. Interesting that west hampstead residents are complaining about prices being forced up. fair play to them.
  3. I'm sure most people do keep winter coats for say, 5 years. I doubt everyone is on the same five year cycle though, therefore some coats are replenished each year by say 20% of the population. So yes, these things will have an impact but it wont be the only reason sales are down. As above its quite funny that the weather seems to be the only reason for poor sales, and that everyone seems to want to avoid the fact that disposable incomes are down. way down.
  4. Unless this is also his way of saying if (when) they go down the mansion tax threshold will be suitably lowered, while trying to garner votes.
  5. Surely it should be the other way around? If the mansion tax is applied then the value of said mansion will go down... Until it is no longer taxable. I say "surely", that's obviously from a logical point of view rather than a politicians point of view.
  6. As a devout football fan, f*** off and work on something more important.
  7. Good to see nobody has asked him why National Insurance doesn't provide enough money for this.
  8. Oh and, more like pretentious a manger.
  9. We had a pret open up by my office. I can't believe how busy it always is, any hour of the day (that they're open) and its packed. Personally I don't see the appeal. You have people going there because they want to feel rich. They've actually started selling half a sandwich at near enough full price spurred on by the incentive of losing weight. You have women paying six quid for one slice of bread with a "low fat" filling inside and thinking its alright. As others have said, dixons / phones4u mark ii. I do wonder what their staff think of this. Unfortunately kicking up a fuss will spell a blotch on their CV and no money through the door, so it'll be gotten away with.
  10. Just sounded like a scare story to me... Look what happened, this guy rents at an old age, he should have bought.
  11. Yeah, that's fair enough. I commuted 12 miles each way by various methods: car, train+bus and cycling. Cycling saved me a good 30 mins in the morning and 15 in the evening. Plus I got fit, and a tan. I work with another guy who is a really keen cyclist. He's quite clumsy (albeit ridiculously clever) and the number of times he's had an accident or near miss, I've lost count. You do need to think for other people and if you're a good driver then you will generally be able to see what cars are going to do, before they do it. Isn't it telling that it's usually the same people racking up 3 or 4 accidents, while others are always on none? I guess it depends which one you are! I've never had a car crash or bike accident, and I put that down to looking after myself and not expecting everyone else to use the road properly. It's perfectly safe as long as you really keep an eye out. One thing I'd recommend is to go on the main roads, don't follow the shortest route or the "safe, residential streets" as they are usually the worst for driver complacency and poor visibility, e.g. parking on both sides, and always cycle in a way that vehicles pass you when you feel it is safe, rather than when they think it's safe, i.e. don't hug the kerb.
  12. Nobody seems to be covering west london so ill do it. All changes in last 3 days, all new instructions unless otherwise stated. W5 21 changes, 3 reductions of around 5% each W6 16 changes, 2 reductions W13 15 changes, 5 reductions of around 5% and one 20% W12 12 changes, 6 reductions each between 5% and 10% So not much happening in west london but the ones that are reducing seem to be doing it two or three times. Absolutely nothing SSTC unless I'm doing it wrong.
  13. Yes all those poor people in the still-plush "affordable" housing units in town centres. I feel more sorry for the mugs buying the unaffordable housing that subsidised them. Of course, I feel sorry for anyone that has to live in this hole of a country, myself included.
  14. So basically the taxpayer would have a share in house prices for the ones that "own". Let me guess, the government would then be able to say they've increased their housing stock by 250k this year. Of course it would actually be 25% of a million houses and completely useless. Although that would be quite funny, getting a call from the council to find out your kids bedroom will now be occupied by a Romanian mother and her 4 kids.
  15. Can we not all be tarred with the same brush please. I realise there are a hell of a lot of public sector "workers" that have the final salary pension but there are the new breed that don't, and are picking up the mess as best we can. My father worked 30 years for the same company and gets more from his private FS pension than me and my brother earn combined, certainly better than most public sector pensions at that time as well. This isn't a public private debate, companies promised too much to too many for too long. Spare a thought for those of us who, whether its public or private sector (and I've worked in both), are getting paid less because of reckless promises made before we were born. Besides the hypocrisy of this forum is baffling at times, I've never known so many posts to be made during working hours (this is my lunch break btw). FWIW the laziest people I've worked with were all in the private sector, the difference of course that they were fired with ease, although it took the managers longer to realise a problem. Here in the public sector the managers know who they want to get rid of, but can't.
  16. The rates on ratesetter have certainly improved but that's a five year annualised loan. That type of loan was about 5.6 this time last year if I recall correctly.
  17. Surely there is a middle ground of being eligible for full benefits after a minimum of 18 years, not that that is what I'd like but from a politician winning both votes point of view.
  18. I always look at the neighbours cars. I couldn't give a crap what sort of people are trying to sell. But I personally think its a decent indicator of confidence in the area on terms of not having your nice motor scratched and/or nicked. Obviously MEW/PPI/credit is applicable but then, when cars are so "cheap" why doesn't everyone have a beamer?
