  1. I won't take the vaccine. It's been rushed and does not stop the spread, so totally pointless for anyone healthy under 50.
  2. But they are being outbid by landlords, particularly at the FTB end of the market, I have seen it happening at auctions and its all I hear from Estate Agents. One decent area of Bristol has a landlord who basically hoovers up everything. According to a couple of estate agents he gets in there even before they are uploaded to Rightmove. How the f*** can the average FTB compete with that!
  3. Surprised no one has mentioned BTL and the impact on home ownership. I cannot see a crash because as soon as prices slide enough to offer a potential good yield then they will be snapped up by cash buyers who are frustrated with low savings rates.
  4. The area around Parkway is Bradley Stoke, Little Stoke etc - A huge estate of crappy tiny houses with no services or soul whatsoever!
  5. He should have just buggered off somewhere like Thailand and lived the life of a stud on very little money, like many of his age do.
  6. £1.50. I actually like the noise and buzz of a coffee shop, and if it gets too much I slip on the headphones.
  7. The problem with OZ is that soon as you step outside the big cities you have to contend with all the flies, and these little buggers get right in your face, in your mouth, nose etc - It may not sound a big deal but you'll end up inside most of the time just to get away from them or wear a silly hat with corks on.
  8. £1.50 for a tall filter coffee and free refills! I basically go to a different one everyday over a couple of weeks as there are at least a dozen costas/starbucks/neros within 10 minutes walk of where I live. I am not the only one, always a sprinkling of other workers in them too, makes for a very sociable existence. Try searching #coffice on twitter, there are millions of us around the globe. I tend to avoid locally owned coffee shops, which is a shame but I don't feel as comfortable sitting in them for 4/5 hours plus with one drink whereas I have no such guilt in chains where they make £300m in the last three months! Great thing is that they have starbucks on tropical islands too ;o)
  9. Decent areas of Bristol are on a par with London in terms of cost. Think £200k for a decent one bedroom flat in the nicest area Clifton. Poorer parts of Bristol require bullet proof vests to be worn at all times. We don't need anymore Londoners coming here to 'downsize' and pushing up prices even more!
  10. I use all my local Starbucks referring to them as 'The Coffice'. £1.50 for a filter coffee with comfortable lively surroundings and friendly hot student baristas is much better than £XXX a month for some shared office space or working from home and paying business rates to the wasteful council. So bring them on!
  11. I only think BTL works if you can buy outright, which is exactly what I plan to do from time to time. Blame the Govt/Banks for not offering savers any alternatives to protect against inflation!
  12. I'd tax people in the public sector more, like a public sector tax because they are not contributing much in terms of income for the country.
  13. I am guessing most people on here would not qualify to emigrate to OZ anyway so what's the point?
  14. Rich Dad book doesn't make you rich of course but it is a wake up call for anyone who is frustrated with being an employee. It's not about property as property is seen as a liability, and the book is all about reducing liabilities and increasing assets. Basically the book goes against what many in the UK do which is to consume crap they don't really need and buy into liabilities rather assets. Of course if you buy a house for cash then is moves over to the assets column assuming you can rent it out more than the running costs.
  15. I will never be an employee again. I read 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' 10 years ago and never looked back. Working for someone else is a mugs games unless you are working for a good cause, e.g. medical, charity etc Many small business owners don't do their figures before starting out and they get burned.
  16. I flew from Sydney to Singapore two weeks ago and it took 7 hours and its less to Bali/Indonesia which is the area of the region I'd rather be closer too.
  17. I read all the posts and I read the article too. This is my opinion. I agree that HPI in OZ is unsustainable but it is fantasy that prices there will drop 60%.
  18. It won't happen in Australia. People are as mad there as here for owning multiple properties. The country is very rich and will only get richer over the next few decades and is perfectly placed to take advantage of the global power shift away from the Atlantic to the Pacific rim. They have space for sure but most of the population only live in small parts. They also have a huge migration program going on and a baby boom too. I am going to end up living there at some point as I want to be closer to Southeast Asia and NZ and I don't want to live in knackered old Europe supporting rich old folk and immigrants in their 10 bedroom social houses with my taxes.
  19. Friend of mine lived in a 'trendy' flat in Old Mkt area and it turned into a nightmare for her because the developer ended up selling many flats to people on the social so her neighbours were prossies and drug dealers. She had to put up with loud music and smoke from outside 24/7. She had the place on the market for over 2 years and ended up moving out and renting it. She now lives in London and will never live in her flat again. The problem with desirable areas of Bristol is that its too expensive, even for BTL landlord because average yields are way too low. For instance I know of a BS6 one bed flat on for £160k but the rent would only be £600pcm - see the problem? As an investor or home owner I would not pay more than £120K because anything under 5% yield is a rip off.
  20. Another thing that is overlooked is that by following a career you are far more likely to develop as a person than you are selling crap on ebay. For instance, working in a corporate environment will expose to you interesting, more experienced and influential people that can help you develop life skills as well as help you get on in your chosen career. Of course you will be exposed to idiots too who are just out for themselves but even then you can learn from them. Working on ebay behind a computer screen will not give you any of this exposure. Of course if you left school with no qualifications then you might as well go down this route as you will probably make more money than flipping burgers or changing bed sheets, but for people who have studied hard I'd urge them to get at least 10 years experience working in large organisations before they decide to sell cuddly toys down the market or save the world by going on some volunteering crusade abroad.
