  2. haha yeah. To be honest, I think we should be good now, the server running the database has 16 cores and 32 Gigabytes of memory. It's barely glanced at the load.

Can I go and watch some news now? Promise to keep the laptop close by! :-)

Seems to be running really well now. This may be the biggest test of the servers since we started hosting HPC - with the Dow collapsing 9% at one point, and the UK election results in full swing!

  3. Hi Guys,

Today we've simultaneously upgraded the site to the new version 3 of the IPB forum software, and also moved the hosting to a new server cluster. Unfortunately the old skins were not compatible with the newer forum software, so we had to create new ones. Whilst the header and footer have remained pretty much the same, the inner skeleton of the forum has changed with IPB 3. Although we can't completely revert to the old version of IPB, we will try to improve this new layout where possible.

Let's keep track of both server issues, and general style issues in this thread.

Here's some issues that I think need fixing....

    • Need to restore the Lo-fi version
    • Bull or bear link doesn't line up correctly in the poster profile column.
    • Broken image on my poster profile.

Mark, Dawid and Matt will be checking this thread for issues and fixing them as they arise, so please use this as the main place for recording any problems.

  4. Another annoyance. After reading a thread, pressing the browser (Firefox) Back button to return to the thread list would not only scroll to the last thing I clicked on, but would also leave it highlighted with a dotted line, making it easy to see where I was. Now it does neither, making it a right royal pain in the **** to get to the "next" thread (compared to how it used to be)

This is a strange one... it appears to a bug with firefox. I think it works OK with Safari and IE. It may have been introduced via a recent firefox update...

There is a fix for it here:

  5. I don't know what you've done with the forum but it's ******* dreadful. The font size now seems more or less how it was but the font itself or the spacing or something is playing absolute havoc with my eyesight. I'm finding it nigh on impossible reading articles and comments as I could before the changes.

Sorry chaps, but I couldn't give a fig about whether the US base rate is at the top of the page if I can't read the articles and posts quickly and without my eyes popping out of my skull. I don't care about the prettiness I want the content. I have no idea why this site is now seemingly different from most others, but whatever you've done has ruined it.

Could you upload a screenshot so we can see what you mean? The font now looks the same to me on my computer...

  6. Hi Guys,

The font size has just been increased. We are working are way through the other issues, please keep the comments coming, they are really helpful.

You may think we're mad, but sometimes we feel it's best to put stuff live when it's 99% complete as it gives us a sense of urgency, and generates much needed feedback.

  7. I've lent out £1000 on Zopa in the last month after seeing the interest on my savings cut to 2.75%.

Since it's so early, I can't say much about how well it has performed, but I have certainly been impressed with the system they have set up.

Here are some things I can say about it:

    - Of the £1000, no more than £20 has been lent to a single borrower. So I have 50 borrowers in total.

    - The rates I've charged range from 7.8% to A* borrowers, up to 11.31% for Y (young) borrowers.

    - After fees and predicted bad debts, the expected returns average about 6.8% - 7%

    - It took about a week to lend out all the £1000 at these rates. You could increase this by lending more than £20 to each borrower, or by lowering the rates you charge.

    Paul
