  1. "it a pessimistic view of humanity is which we are all viewed as isolated, self interested consumption monsters." What amazes me is that the political class swallowed it....- IS that not because they ( The Political Class) are associated with advertising agencies - who are surely the very businesses that benefit from a spurge of consumerism and connected with building and Financial Services again the beneficiaries of consumption and house gentrification..... KT edit - typos, again.
  2. Whenever I see the names of Dr.Paul, King and Schiff anywhere I despair less. Could go as far as 'a lot happier' - for are they not the only people who seem to talk sense these days. Sound sense, but what do I know............ I watched the Parliamentary Affairs Select Committee examination of the affairs of state for the preceeding couple of days. My faith in BoE was restored. Before then I had always sensed a similarity betwen the Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz with our Governor. Not any more. Later, on the lunch time BBC news, I noticed that Henry Paulson left No.10 and as he walked to a waiting car in Downing Street seemed insistant on shaking Alistair Darling's hand most sincerely. Never heard or saw any more about his visit. I wonder who was assuring who OR who was thanking who. Rgds KT
  3. ..........It's nice to be back posting & everything looks mega bearish GoM Good to have your clear analysis, straight thinking and straight talking back again. Hope you had a good time in Brittany. I travel to work through Silkwood to Honley and often give you a thought as I pass through Horbury. Best regards
  4. We need to to thank every one here too - especially DrB. I know for an actual fact that, because of here and there, we have saved ourselves from losing 10's of thousands of pounds. Fact. And now have shed loads of knowledge, information and understanding that I hope we will use wisely. Don't understand a lot of it of course - but am enjoying trying to. Thanks, Kt
  5. Wasn't this 4 bedroom semi behind the Police Station in Harrogate new on the market last autumn at around £435,000? From HousePrices;- 1 26/01/2007 £331,000 Semi F No Map 22, Woodside, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 5NG If true, looks like about a 25% reduction. If not, apologies.
  6. Did DD just say, whilst standing in between the mighty new tower blocks of Canary Wharfe ; "this is where real power lies, not in the Church, not in politicians but here amongst the temples erected to world banking." Or something very similiar. Odd that.
  7. Dubai, Yes, my reply was a bit muddled. What I meant was that the article was incredible. I also meant that it had added value in that it was written by a man who had spent 21 years working at the US Treasury and studying US monetary history. As the piece was about US monetary history it seems that he is well experienced in offering a view. Again, thanks KT
  8. Dubai, Incredible. Really incredible. And from an author who:- "I spent twenty-one years working for the U.S. Treasury Department and studying U.S. monetary history." Usually my posts stop a thread dead. Hope this one doesn't, KT
  9. Grumpy Old Man ".......anyway, I would just like to thank the posters on this site that have helped me gain a good insight into the economy & housing market (both UK & US), both of which I knew very little about before I joined. Q1 2007. Here, Very Much Here. BTW this can't be right; North Yorkshire - 22.6% Qtr -16.9% annual. They should be plusses - must be a typograhical error. Hopefully
  10. OM Many thanks, much appreciated, Thought it had gone forever, Rgds
  11. L, Agree with you and have watched it a few times since it was released in May 2006 - but it was pulled within the last 48 hours. Shame about that. But I think it may be available on DVD sometime Xmas 2007. Rgds Edit: Timespan
  12. "Words of Warning" can be found in its original form here: http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4279/wo...fwarningts8.jpg It was located at the foot of page 3 in the second section of the Property supplement in the Saturday the 26th of May edition of the Yorkshire Post. (Reasonably easy to miss) The mention of 20-30% falls in UK property prices, to match those of Spain and the USA - and becoming global, and the link to this website, seem pretty remarkable - especially in the Yorkshire Post. Edit; to remove attachment
  13. Thank you Webmaster for finding this article. I know I'm completely biased but the Yorkshire Post seems like the largest selling, most influential conservative and Conservative daily regional paper in the country and when twinned with its sister Newspapers Yorkshire Rugby League carries quite a bit of clout especially if the article you discovered was indeed published in the Yorkshire Post (YP) and maybe thus reflected in its sister papers. Fred Harrison's book was published about 18 mths ago and one has to ask whether it is a coincidence or not that the YP chose to feature it at this moment in time or is it the fascination with numbers - 18 mths and 18 year cycles.
  14. If it is anywhere near as good as his disussion with the Acting Chief Constable of Suffolk Police, Colin Langham-Fitt, on The Surveillance Society and Orwellianism creep then it will be a corker.
  15. Hi IMuN ( ...if you're still about.) I noticed that the property you highlighted for sale in Jan 06 is Cobblestone Cottage Bishopton Lane Ripon HG4 2QL and notice today that it is registered at LR as sold on 09.02.07 for £235,000. That's a drop of £110,000 in thirteen months then - OK, so it was lowered to £299,000 in June 06. Not quite as far as your £200k overprice - but close. For clarity; The postcode for Cobblestone Cottage is shown at the LR as HG4 3QL and this postode refers to an area about 7 miles from Ripon, near to the village of Kirkby Malzeard. There are, however, 6 properties in HG4 3QL and none known as Cobblestone Cottage. Unless, coincidentally, a new property or a house change to Cobblestone Cottage has recently occurred. And so it seems that a typographical error has occurred, at some point, with the second numeral in the postcode. KT Edit: In other words the vendor has accepted a drop of 31.9% on EA's valuation over the last year.
  16. On the wondeerful BBC Radio Leeds (92.4FM) this morning Graham Liver gave a superb interview with Sarah Beaney about her new series of Property Ladder starting on Wednesday. She said, in effect, that just because you do a house up doesn't necessarily mean that you will make a profit - if that's what you're looking for. She also gave a strong impression that she had thought that property prices would cool but now felt that they are due, what I think she said was, a "crash" - or something very similiar. She seemed, as best she could in her circumstances, to be fairly to strongly bearish. Will listen again when I find a computer with sound - but could be a day or two though..... Regds KT Edit - Apols - it was broadcast at 9.40am. Could you change the header. Thanks
  17. 'snot relevant but interesting;- Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F Kennedy was elected President in 1960. The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost a child while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy, Kennedy’s secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners Both were succeeded by Southerners called Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Lincoln was shot at a theatre named ‘Kennedy’, Kennedy was shot in a car called ‘Lincoln’. Booth ran from the theatre and was caught in a warehouse, Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theatre. Booth and Oswald were assassinate before their trials. A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe……………..
  18. Lou G Within 500 yds of The Odeon Cinema in Harrogate two four bedroomed £400k houses, which had sold signs appear in March, have lost their sold signs - and been reduced a little. They join four slightly less expensive similar houses, within the same locality, still for sale since the spring. Incidentally the 11 x two bedroom flats, all let on shorthold tenancies, advertised last year at this time re-appeared for sale again this week in the local paper - again within the same locality. JFYI
  19. I'mUN ah! but now it's reduced by £46,000 ( about 8 years of anyone's life @ £500 equivalant rental per month) http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-105...pa_n=3&tr_t=buy KT
  20. BB I think you can buy and sell in either American/Canadian Dollars, Euros or GBP at GM, it's your choice. Regards KT
  21. cgnao Don't go, please. We should have taken your advice, and Dr Bubb's advice, last November but we dillied and dallied and didn't get going till Jan - still it has been very good to us since - we are heavily into gold. Need your input to assimilate action in the summer. Unless, of course, your threatened departure is a signal to get out..... Regards KT
  22. Hello Frizzers Did you get a chance to read this.... K2
