  1. To state the obvious someone with 4 kids, someone with 3 kids who has also put their parents up as they cant afford to go into a home, someone with 2 kids who has to put both there parents up and they havent slept in the same room for 30y etc.
  2. Do you know what, i do feel sorry for these people. Here is a link to that sold price and previous listings. They have never tried to sell it for more than they paid and they made a mistake. They havent tried to flip they are just normal people going about their lives. It could have hapened to almost anyone http://www.zoopla.co.uk/property/52-longstork-road/rugby/cv23-0gd/5805845
  3. Well a quick update, we had a negotiation and it seems his comment of " house that reflects your standing" was rather off the cuff, on the back of an interesting disucssion I've extracted £10k after tax bonus and a 20% pay increase so I'm bloody glad I took it up with him as we had a very good chat and there a no strings attached to the money
  4. Well this could be a problem!!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/9385231/German-president-tells-Angela-Merkel-to-come-clean-on-EU-debt-deal.html
  5. Why would the person who put together the contract leave such a big hole in it. House prices do go down and I'm amazed there isnt a provision in the contract for a 50/50 spit of the pain as a minimum?
  6. I just cant believe that to be true, why would you do that?
  7. When you consider that Spanish unemployemnt was rising by 300k per quarter this year then it puts a 100k drop inot perspective.
  8. lol, nope. Havent got the cash and wouldnt want them any way. He has one in Henley on Thames and I almost fell over when he showed me it and told me how much he paid. He was mugged, but no need to worry, its different in Henley/Dorset etc
  9. No nothing like that its just a one off and not the normaly way I would geneate revenue.
  10. Good point, I'll use that as well. SD of £9k kind of takes the shine off the cash if I "must" buy a palce over £250k IF I had to pay higher rate tax on it and NI that drops it down to £15k take home so after the extra £5k SD (over and above that at £250k it "only" give me an extra £10k maybe less as the fees, council tax etc will be more. The car thing about having to spend X is a funny one, not a problem with our business but when I worked for large blue chips this has been a constat PITA as they always want you to spend more.
  11. This I like, I can always tell him that they want to see proof of deposit to make sure it gets into my account. This is the feeling I get. My pay is good and we have a great working relationship its just on this matter we are so far apart. I really think he thinks he is doing me a favour by directing me at housing but its only as he has enjoyed wage inflation in the 80s and house inflation in the 00's; both of which I know we wont see but he has been conditioned on housing.
  12. This made me laugh today. I've managed an interesting deal for the company I 'm a director of (but not the majority shreholder in). Talking with the MD and he has hinted that if I were to find a house that was more inkeeping with (his idea of) where i should be living (currently I rent) then he would give me half the profit from this (unconventional deal. Its £30k+ and the money would be good, but is this really the way a classic 50 someithing man thinks about property? I've given him both barrels about property and the fact that total luck has gifted him two houses at over £500k each just because of when he got them? What to do, take the money and feel dirty (and probably not spend it on the house as the company cant take it back at that point) or tell him to go f*ck himself (I wont quite put it like that). It is the strangest place I find myself in...
  13. I had to laught at the section with says if you purport to be working for the BoE. Looks like lieing about woring for the BoE also means your ass is covered, how odd.
  14. Ooooohh -0.6% And last month revised down by 0.1% as well
  15. I said this on the other thread then spotted this one but The problem is the way it seperates out an age group in society and has elements of trying to blame things on a section of society (now where have I heard that before...WW2...Germany...) The policy itself seems fine to me 9with some minir changes) but needs to be combined with other welfare reforms at the same time (not justa promise down the road). SMI, winter fuel allowance, HB for all ages etc. It seems unfair in the extreme to point to under 25's as the problem (although I do understand the need to close the gate at some peoint, even if its a long time after the horse has bolted)

  17. Interesting, I interviewed a girl who is working in their Regent Street store. She is looking to move as she just ends up telling people where the products are and not selling anything. She did say that they have a lot of very over educated people in their London stores. MBA's, PHD's etc they like working for Apple...
  18. A very interesting letter, is Ron Paul still on the committee as it needs someone with some balls to take the letter and ask the question
  19. Interesting http://uk.news.yahoo.com/bank-reforms-condition-spain-aid-merkel-123508120--finance.html I always thought that the only reason that Ireland needed the money was due to the banks? If thats the case then they should be asking why the whole country is having to pay...
  20. Well a big fat morning bounce for the FTSE. Back over 5300 now
  21. lol, yep i did consider this. I wouldnt fall for it, but I'm not sure about my grandpa, depends if they get him on a good or a bad day.
  22. Well it turns out the holding company was put into a pre-pack. Wipedout the hareholders and then the trading copany was sold on to help clear some of the debt to the banks. Having done some more reading it all looks a bit odd but the bottom line is the shares are worth 0. The offer could be from a company that holds a short position and wants to close it out early from what I have read but I dont really know how that works?
  23. I knew someone would ask this. I can't say at the moment, but once I can I'll post up. From some newspaper reports shareholders are getting nothing, but the fact he has been approached about the shares makes this all seem a bit odd.
  24. My grandfather has come to me about a shreholding that he has. He has 100k shares in a company trading on the LSE at £8 per share (peak). He thinks someone has called him as they are looking to buy the company (he is a mid sized shareholder) but after some research the company was delisted late 2011 and from my reading sharholders are getting nothing. Is there anything that can be done? The company was sold as a going concern but only to cover some of the bank debt. I assume this means he really has lost it all. I'm not expecting anyting other than the worst news but I wanted to ask before I break it to him (he is almost 90).
