  1. Or abolish savings rates altogether...
  2. Posted on an estate agent industry website. https://propertyindustryeye.com/opinion-the-thing-with-property-bubbles-is-that-they-burst/ TL;DR - the UK has had property bubbles, booms and busts before. The Stamp Duty cut has created a boom for sure, but there are few signs of a bubble popping at present. Inflation, especially wage inflation could be on the cards though. If that leads to higher interest rates, the bubble will burst. Please Bank of England, see through any inflation instead.

  4. Replace the TV or the brick? The latter's the most expensive these days.
  5. 50,000 applications on last day https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/jul/01/eu-citizens-scramble-beat-uk-settled-status-deadline
  6. The BoE will not raise interest rates until every possibility that prices are temporary has been thoroughly explored and given time to play out. By then, it may be too late to contain it. However, we won't get even a precautionary rise this year I'm sure.
  7. Home Office 'overwhelmed' by last minute applications to settlement scheme. An acknowledgement also that the3million is woefully inadequate as a reflection of the true numbers, according to... The Guardian! https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/26/wales-denmark-euro-2020-match-report
  8. I thought the export of inflation from China was due to much of their labour force having been absorbed into the global economy? The pool of educated, cheap labour is shrinking. Neighboring countries don't have hundreds of millions of available workers. India could perhaps, but I'm unsure if educational progress is so advanced outside of larger population centres.
  9. Signs of cooling market as stamp duty holiday end date looms https://propertyindustryeye.com/signs-of-cooling-as-end-of-stamp-duty-holiday-reduces-urgency-to-move/
  10. I don't agree that the UK automatically follows the Fed. When several US rises pushed rates above 2% a couple of years ago, we managed one rise up to 0.75% before cutting again. This view that we will copy whatever the US does re interest rates is posted a lot on this site, which is surprising given that the most recent examples do not back this up.
  11. Dangers of inflation include damage to the BoE's image and standing. Some may claim that such reputational tarnishing has actually already occurred..
  12. Last time I was in the office, the orientation on the photocopier had apparently gone awry. I think it identifies as a guillotine now.
  13. I thought we weren't allowed to even look at the opposite sex at work nowadays?
  14. House prices set to fall as stamp duty end date looms https://propertyindustryeye.com/house-prices-set-to-fall-as-stamp-duty-holiday-and-furlough-deadlines-loom/
  15. Never paid much attention to the lyrics before, but they are profoundly relevant to today: And all the roads jam up with credit And there's nothing you can do It's all just bits of paper Flying away from you Oh, look out world, take a good look What comes down here You must learn this lesson fast And learn it well This ain't no upwardly mobile freeway Oh no, this is the road Said this is the road This is the road to hell
  16. This is the Laggy McLagface of all indices. This data will be capturing the scene in March when it was touch and go whether there would be a Stamp Duty extension. Expect normal service, ie monthly rises in excess of 1%, to continue next month and into the autumn.
  17. Does Bailey have to write a letter, or is that at 3%? 'Sorry, we overdid it at the printing press...'
  18. Bleating is underway: Conveyancers call for another stamp duty holiday extension https://propertyindustryeye.com/conveyancers-call-on-the-chancellor-to-extend-the-stamp-duty-holiday/ Whole chains could face collapse as stamp duty deadline looms – claim https://propertyindustryeye.com/whole-chains-could-face-collapse-as-stamp-duty-deadline-looms-claim/
