  1. Thank you very much Redwine you have given me plenty to think about. I am in no hurry to buy or relocate just want to get a feel for what it is actually like on the ground. I also had no idea that the area of the Montagne Noir is in the confines of a natural park so that is very valuable information. I was considering the possibility of renting for a while to become more acquainted with the lifestyle and your suggestion only reinforces that idea. As far as telling the people they live in dog kennels my eyes may be green but I'm not quite that green myself. What I rather ineptly meant was I see descriptions of properties in "good condition, structurally sound but requiring some renovation" when in fact they are barely standing and the wolf from "Little red riding hood" would blow it down without a lot of effort. I just got the impression the people and estate agents were of the impression that all foreigners are rich and can't see properly for the € or £ signs blinding them and will buy anything presented to them. I am one of those people who does not mind paying for something that is worth the money but hate being taken for a mug, or, a (gobshite) ,as we say in Ireland. It is nice to have access to information of an independent nature.I'm sure I will have plenty more queries in the future so once again thank you for being so kind to take the time to reply. Mike
  2. Hello to all, I'm new to this and my idea is to relocate to France having retired early from the fire brigade in Dublin. I get the impression that the French either do not realize that there has been a world shake-up regarding property, or refuse to accept it. One way or the other I am amazed at the prices that are being asked for glorified dog kennels and some not even glorified. Also I am of the opinion that at least bank robbers do not try to pretend that they are robbers, whereas EA's are just wearing suits instead of balaclavas. Am I right in this observation or is it just me who is totally removed from reality. My dream would be to buy some land and have my own house constructed. I have seen some magnificent German houses which are state of the art concerning building standards and being environmentally efficient. Does anyone know if there are any obstacles created by the French authorities to try and dissuade people from importing these type of houses. I am currently looking in the area north of Carcasonne in the area of the Montagne Noir. Mike
  3. Could anyone tell me if there are complications with importing a German factory built modern ecologically advanced house to France. If possible that would be my dream as I believe renovating in France can be a bottomless money-pit. This way I get what I want with modern technology and being environmentally friendly and efficient .

  4. Hello all. I'm a recently retired Fireman, and yes i'm aware that the P.C. term is firefighter but I refuse to call it by that term. My hope is to settle in France and I'm currently concentrating on the area of Languedoc Rousillon. My ideal would be to get a suitable plot of land and build.
