Will The Banks Have To Put Correct Values On Houses?
headrow replied to geoffk's topic in House prices and the economy
If we can't afford to pay China to build things for us , why don't we just build it ourselves? -
I've done all the cheap city deals around europe. Jet2 , BMi , Easyjet , Ryanair. I've had some right bargains , done all the major cities in western europe for the price of a rail ticket to London from Doncaster. But i've stopped now , not because of the recession or that prices have gone up , i just got bored of it , it became that common place flying to Rome , Berlin , Barcelona , Paris , Prague or wherever that i stopped looking forward to it. I'm going to have a month off at a time and do something like South/North America or Asia instead.

I agree. I'd want an adult looking after my kids. -
Will The Banks Have To Put Correct Values On Houses?
headrow replied to geoffk's topic in House prices and the economy
What is the true value of a house though if its not for sale. In my close the last time a house sold with the same spec as mine was in june 2007 for £143,000. The last time one sold before that was Feb 1999 for £35,000. I paid £33,500 in 1992 . I wouldn't have a clue how much one is worth now , until somebody sells one then neither does anybody else. -
Less Than Two Weeks Away From Vat Rise
headrow replied to CockneyTrader's topic in House prices and the economy
You reckon? I certainly won't. If my car needs a new battery , tyres or whatever else i'll wait until the time that i need them before i spend/waste any money on them. Same with a washing machine , if mine breaks down ,i'll take a van to B&Q and buy another , i won't buy one now just because i can save £4 if mine does happen to pack in this year. If thats 'sheeple think' then so be it. I call it common sense. -
Sheffield United In A Bit Of Financial Bother?
headrow replied to interestrateripoff's topic in House prices and the economy
Saved Leeds United from financial ruin? If you call selling off all the players , losing the ground and academy , administration and two relegations as saving the club from financial ruin i'd hate to see what his idea of failure is. The bloke got lucky at Chelsea , he left Leeds in the hands of asset strippers and before long he will do the same at Sheffield United. -
Its the money i've made on my Cape shares, thats all. 35p to about 260 , take the profit , lock it away was my thinking.

Thats worked for me. For the past 20 years i've been employed in low paid jobs with loads of overtime. If i've needed extra money, within a couple of weeks i have been able to get it together. I'm a great believer in finding the right balance between time off and disposable income. No point having one without the other. -
Lloyds Wins 95% Support For Record Rights Issue

I avoided them. Why would i want a share in a company that the majority shareholder is running a deficit of £178 Billion? The only bank i hold shares in is Standard Chartered , which like an idiot i bought into at about 900p just before they plummeted to the 600p mark . -
I've lived mortgage free for the past 8 years. Its brilliant , i do 3 ten hour shifts monday , tuesday and weds and 5hr on a thursday. I've got half the week to do what i want with. I maybe live in a small two up two down but at least i have a life that isn't all work like it was when i first took out my mortgage. If we want a nice holiday i work an extra 10/15 hours a week.

Debt-Laden Man United Are Ripe For Plucking

Its the fans i feel sorry for , the last time they went a few seasons without winning anything they set up a new club , what next, a FCUM mark 2? -
How come all the people on this site earning good money don't have a house of their own or are they like me wanting a property price crash for the sake of their kids? I earn about 17k a year , by the sounds of it some of you are earning that every couple of months. Here in East Yorks you could buy a house with 6 months pay if you are on 100k a year. Are most of you in IT and London based by any chance?

I know everybody's circumstances are different but it strikes me that moving around the country chasing work gets you no further than sitting at home until you can find a job thats local. There isn't a right and a wrong way but i'm glad i did it the way i did , i've seen what stress my mates have had having to move house every 3/4/5/ years and borrowing ever more money. Yes i'd have liked an extra bedroom and more space downstairs but i'd much rather have all my wages to my self at the end of the week than giving 25% of them to the bank. -

Nobody, because its not for sale and never will be. I'm happy where i am. My bills are £130 a month for everything , why would i want to move? -

i was born in 67. I left school in 82 with 5 0 Levels and got a job in a warehouse paying £60 a week. Over a few years the pay increased , there was loads of overtime and i blew all my wages on beer, football and cars. The firm went bust in 1990 , i came back from the world cup with no job. Spent a year on the dole and then got some work on a construction site for about £200 a week , got my girlfriend pregnant and needed to buy a house. In 1992 we bought a house for £33,000 our daughter was born and i got a job contracting on the Power Stations where i was taking home about £500 a week , gradually we did the house up and started to overpay the mortgage. By 2001 the mortgage was cleared and i gave up chewing dust on power stations and took a 30% pay cut to do a driving job. We've never moved house and have lived mortgage free for the last 9 years. No debt no worries. What puzzles me is how there are people on this site the same age as me , who will have earnt way more than me and still not be on the ladder. I bought a house when i was taking home less than £200 a week , with a wife and kid to support. I suppose my luck was getting on the bottom rung in 1992. Has there ever been a better time to buy a house? -
Perhaps she could afford a house if she spent all day looking for bits of change that people had dropped in the street?

Dow Blasts Through 10000
headrow replied to Joey Buttafueco Jr's topic in House prices and the economy
Yes i saw Game were nearly 20% down but they're a one trick pony are they not? HMV are more music , dvd orientated . If the results come in worse than expected at least the dividend of 7.4p is still better than having the money on deposit in a bank. Time will tell. -

I don't understand short, long, stops etc but i did have a speculative gamble on HMV just before the close , they report on friday and i have a feeling with Borders , Woolies , Zavvi going under that HMV could do very well this christmas. Got them at 108.9 , hope to sell at a profit on friday. -
RBS shares down nearly 10% today. I don't think this will have helped Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Nakheel PJSC, the Dubai World-owned property developer seeking to renegotiate debt, had a first-half loss of 13.4 billion dirhams ($3.65 billion) as revenue fell and it wrote down the value of land and property, according to a document obtained by Bloomberg News. The loss for the company, which is building palm tree- shaped islands off the emirate’s coast, compared with a year- earlier profit of 2.65 billion dirhams, according to its financial statement for the six months to June. Revenue fell 78 percent to 1.97 billion dirhams. A spokesman for Dubai World, Nakheel’s parent, declined to comment. Dubai World began talks last week with banks to restructure $26 billion of debt, including a $3.52 billion Islamic bond of Nakheel maturing on Dec. 14. Dubai World held talks yesterday with its six main creditors, according to a banker familiar with the negotiations.

What i find amazing is that people still choose to hold their savings and investments with this bank. The figures are staggering and its all going to end in tears.
