  1. +1 The political parties are the problem, not the parliamentary system itself, IMO. If you elected local members, to represent their local populace, in parliament, free of any direction from political parties, I think it would be a much better system, more in tune with the public. Particularly if anyone could stand, subject to perhaps gaining sufficient nominations from their area, it would be harder for a group of people, say banksters, from capturing parliament. Doing away with political parties would be a change for the good, and fairly easy to implement, compared with overhauling the entire system.
  2. Yes, it pis*ed down all Summer. Just Google Tewkesbury floods.
  3. I dunno about anything else, but the weather is certainly 2007 all over again.
  4. It got me too, I just couldn't resist the draw of fast cars and boobs. Typical bloke
  5. In which case they could f**k off. I'm not paying to access my own money, when the bank is also lending it out and making a margin on it. I'd only ever consider paying an account charge if a bank operated on a full reserve basis.
  6. Absolutely. For a classic example of this, have a look at Phlogiston Theory.
  7. If this happens, it will destroy any shred of belief I had left that the British public are not completely braindead. As an aside, when that c**t dies, I'll be down the pub celebrating. I can't imagine feeling like that about anyone else.
  8. Thanks for that, it's really interesting - so am I right in thinking that around a third of MPs have some sort of BTL interest? That would explain a few things!
  9. The problem is that you don't get the option - you either buy a slavebox from one of the volume builders, or you buy an older house. The smaller builders have either been swallowed up, or muscled out, by the big landbankers and finding a plot for self build is virtually impossible. Or it is around my way. If it were possible, I'm sure more would do it, it would be nice to see the back of the identikit estates across the country, but until the monopoly of the likes of Redrow and Persimmon is broken, and the planning system altered, I can't see it happening. It still amazes me that people are happy to pay very large sums of money for houses that are, effectively, total crap.
  10. I think that's the only viable option at the moment, whilst the BNP does have some sensible policies the other elements of that organisation rule out voting for them.
  11. Grant Shapps said: No doubt one of the brilliant ideas to help FTB's, conceived at the helping FTB meeting which, funnily enough, no FTB's were invited to... I don't think Shappsy is on our side, he's most likely to be on the side of those with the money and the influence to help him with his parliamentary career, at the end of the day he is a politician.
  12. The house building companies are really flogging this New Buy scheme on our local radio station. Just about every ad break during the day has an advert for one of them trying to encourage FTBs into instant nequity, it really boils my p*ss
  13. Well I never, who'd have thought it! I can't believe that the government though that their little market propping schemes would have any other effect than increasing the price for the duration of the scheme, without affecting volumes. More negative equity baked in for anyone buying a new build home now - nice.
  14. That's got to be the winner, I can't see anyone trumping that! Anyone who seriously believes that a house like that is worth half a million pounds is seriously deluded.
  15. It's early days, but this: http://www.rechargenews.com/business_area/innovation/article288973.ece could be promising. Although inefficient, it does allow excess energy to be stored and utilised.
  16. I filled up in anticipation of the deal being rejected, this morning, I'm glad I did now!
  17. Brilliant! I do hope that MSE isn't a true indication of the average person's intelligence level...
  18. It's quite similar, though housing hasn't had the same corrections post-2000. Is there anything that isn't actually in a credit fuelled bubble?
  19. So do I - only the UK could have a fuel crisis, when there is no crisis!
  20. Yes, instead of the surpluses being recycled into property, they could be invested into endeavours that might just make life better for us in the future, or infrastructure projects, or other useful stuff....
