What about Brancepeth Village. I used to live there and it's a beautiful old fashioned village, lovely people, low crime and it's between Durham City and Crook! -

I would choose Brancepeth Village, which is just outside Durham City. It's beautiful, has it's own castle and crime rate is very low.
