  1. Oh I agree, but it is weird to frame and headline these potentially large reserves in terms of tax revenue. That seems absurd to me. If that is the reason for this perspective; why not just nationalize this resource and send all income to the government then?
  2. What a way to frame this potential wealth...in terms of tax revenue? Absurd. Like something from Orwell's 1984. Tax is wealth.
  3. There is always escape. People would find another medium of exchange, or barter, which has existed for centuries before the fiat system was imposed upon the world.
  4. General Motors Streetcar Conspiracy: Streetcars awaiting destruction...to be replaced by buses, rubber tires and petrol...
  5. Yes but you can see clearly that there is no other reason other than for snooping. Land does not have rights to privacy. People do.
  6. Why do you wish to spy on your fellow citizens?
  7. Why would I care in the least about what my fellow citizens pay in tax. It is their business, nothing to do with me. Only those who wish to snoop on others would be interested in such a thing. There is no other purpose in it. Edit: I'll add that the Stasi had 1 in 7 people spying on each other. But such a database of private, confidential information could have 1 in 1 doing so. Eastern Germany writ large.
  8. When this was first released, one shopper in Wall Mart was reported to have said: "I see something - Janet Napolitano looks conspicuously like a man!" Then you have (yes it's true) the TSA recruiting hot dog vendors at the recent Super Bowl to rat out their fellow citizens. "If you see something, eat something!"
  9. IP is not property. It's a restriction of rights; a legal fiction and serves no legitimate purpose.
  10. An ideal situation for people who like to spy on their neighbours a rat out their fellow citizens. I see no other purpose in it. A leaf straight from the Markus Wolf operating manual. This is a security state dream come true.
  11. "On the sidelines of the Eurogroup meeting and caught on camera, Germany's Finance Minister Schaeuble hinted that his government was prepared to adjust the Portuguese EU/IMF programme. In private, he told his Portuguese counterpart Gaspar, "If then there would be a necessity for an adjustment of the Portugal [...] we would be ready to do that". But Schaeuble also told him it is "key" that any decisions on Portugal's programme are made "after a substantial decision on Greece". " Ha Ha.
  12. The Germans have already dispatched large police forces such as those against the Nov 2011 nuclear shipment protests. This was reported sparsely but there were more than 20,000 Riot Police from several European countries deployed along the route to quell it. This is the true endpoint for Greece. Has the Greek Military been neutered by Europe or not? Will European troops be called in to stomp out dissent? We will know soon. Germany is going to be seen as the monster of all this before it is over. Wait and see.
  13. Mathematics is a HUGE subject. Deterministic and non-deterministic. Believe me, it can encompass anything, even the metaphysical. It's not mathematics that is at issue, it's the thinking process of the people who apply it, and many of these don't understand what they are applying anyway; often you find that they cannot explain it. Indeed, if you read John Perkins, you will see that complex mathematics is deliberately used to obscure sinister motives in the field of economics. The best mathematics and science are an art form in themselves. I do agree that many mathematicians are rigid in their thinking (but this can be said of many fields), and that art can lead to a superior form of thought.
  14. I hope you're right on this. But trying to catch these chaps is about as easy as catching a slippery eel with your bare hands...
  15. People generally don't understand what goes on in the primaries, they're brawls and not at all like the general election... What's interesting is that Maddow leans to the very left and was a big Obama supporter. But she trashed Obama some months ago and you get a feeling who she might be considering from this video. The establishment Republicans will be watching this stuff carefully...
  16. Fodder for the HPC crowd. Interest rates on the rise soon? From Zerohedge: BERNANKE: HOUSING MAY NO LONGER BE VIEWED AS SECURE INVESTMENT BERNANKE SAYS HOUSING IMPEDING FED EFFORT TO SPUR U.S. ECONOMY BERNANKE SAYS HOUSING SECTOR SUFFERS FROM `SERIOUS IMBALANCES' BERNANKE SAYS HOUSING IMPEDING FED EFFORT TO SPUR U.S. ECONOMY BERNANKE SPEAKS ABOUT HOUSING MARKETS IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA BERNANKE: TIGHT MORTGAGE CREDIT WON'T BE EASED QUICKLY, EASILY Full detiails in the link above. Does this signal a surprise reversal of QE soon?
  17. On that subject today I watched a broadcast on Greece that families are now making Molotov cocktails at their homes at night. I just wonder if the Greek military will do the dirty work or whether they will bring in troops from the European Union to do it. The last time Greece was in this position was 1934 I believe (a period when about 50% of the world defaulted on sovereign debt). The military took over and rescued the country then, but I wonder if the Greek military still has this interest anymore.
  18. The fundamental problem is the money system we use. To have growth there must be increasing debt. If all debt was paid back there would be no money in circulation (save for about 3% of the current supply that exists in coin and paper). Therefore if debt repayment becomes impossible then the entire system must collapse. We are in that phase now and there is nothing any one can do to stop it. They will initially try to enslave and force the population to comply, but the will not work. Hence the totalitarian state apparatus that is developing throughout the western, debt ridden world.
  19. The net is closing in around these tax dodgers. I wouldn't be surprised if their bankers have recommended this course to them. This cash can now be hidden and transferred into jewelry, gold, stones, art, or other untraceable items. This is going to create a nightmare for the tax authorities, no doubt.
