  1. Pay the SNP off with a promise of a Scottish referendum? I think the Ulster Unionist Tory pact could get them 4/5 seats with a further 4/5 seat from DUP. Hermon is she gets back in wont support the Tories.7 Really depends how far from a majority they are I guess
  2. Planning service have a cushy number and are upset because they are likely to be redeployed into frontline benefit delivery and be expected to do some work for once. After all the reports recently regarding the planning service failures they are lucky to be keeping their jobs and not being sacked for incompetency. I was discussing with a friend how there is maybe 14 levels of management in the Civil Service. How is that efficient or value for money? I think the TESCO CEO is proud of the fact that he is only 6 levels away from the check outs. The redeployment option is cheaper as there has been a ban on recruitment so these people will turn up for work one day and be told there is a vacancy in xyz and report there without the need to run a recruitment competition
  3. I've recently finished reading this book and would highly recommend it to anybody disillusioned with the political system in its current state
  4. My sister is training to be an interior designer. If you want PM me and I'll give you the company details
  5. In fairness it isn't all their fault... The firm also confirmed that 65 jobs were at risk in its Northern Ireland contract as a result of the civil service recruitment freeze. The company is contracted to handle the recruitment and human resources elements for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. Just shows how much of an impact the public sector has on the overall economy.
  6. A waste of time and money if you ask me. Do gooder lefties pushing their own agenda to "help" the population and will no doubt make it no better at extreme costs or make it worse. I cant think of any real link to housing other than useless legislation that may be forced upon us or taxes that spring from it. Unlikely to get off the ground anyway as the crew running it are pushing their own internal agendas last I heard. Has support from SDLP and Sinn Fein I think but not from the DUP and UUP.
  7. I think too many people pay heed to the posters on Politics.ie who are on the verge of ectasy over a Stormont collapse which will somehow mean a United Ireland for them. Thats just what the South need, our benefits culture to weigh down their already faltering economy... As said Stormont has done nothing of real benefit for us yet other than demolish some establishments and argue about what is to replace them. Somebody said about a British Government and a slash and burn policy from the British Government. What difference is that to the Assembly being given a budget of 25% less and told to cut? Investment? How much investment did the New York Pension fund invest after all these years and the fanfare which greeted those announcements? - $0 The only investment we are getting are from crappy call centres

The owner has died so its a deceased estate. No bids on it though.

  10. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/8469483.stm We have a lot of defenders of the NHS here so have they any comment on this story? NI NHS provides least value for money for the taxpayer. They also employ 57 PR people too...
  11. I started looking in Belfast and the agents I had (can't really remember which agents now) were generally unhelpful. Halifax were good though. UPS turned up late and the house was a real mess. Changed to looking in Dungannon and found there was one agent who was really good at what they were doing. Houses decently priced and they the agents were advising both seller and buyer what a more reasonable price may be. Eg Property listed at 80k and I was being told an offer of 65k would probably shift it. However others round Dungannon more or less just opened the door and let me work away and were really disinterested. Eventually bought from Halifax but more on the strength of the property rather than the agent who again remained in the dining room for the duration of the viewing.
  12. Good luck with the search There is a bank out there offering 90% Mortgages. Not sure if I can name the bank or not but Im sure a mod can take if off if Im not - Ulsterbank
  13. When the energy shtf not if... Im just hoping its further and further away some of the major peak oil doomers are saying within 5 years we will reach the shtf. Im hoping more like 15-20 I'd say we are better placed to feed ourselves than the likes of the mainland are, obviously not anywhere near the levels we are used to now. Alas the Assembly lack the motivation, imagination or determination to do anything worthwhile.
  14. Thats issues that an election should be fought on, those sort of promises rather than vote for us to stop Sinn Fein being First Minister or Vote for us to stop DUP getting First Minister again!
  15. I am on the climate bandwagon a wee bit and I dont think wind power is the be all end all that some people think it is nor is great for Northern Ireland. Personally I think 1 or 2 Nuclear Power stations would be good for Northern Ireland (One in Fermanagh and one in Co. Londonderry to tackle lack of jobs in both areas...?) The Strangford underwater turbine broke quite quickly too didnt it? But thats the type of project I would personally like to more of. However even the size and cost of it is still only enough to power Ards. On Newsline about 12-18 months ago they discussed energy sources for NI and they highlighted that geo thermal energy could be harnessed in Northern Ireland in quite a number of places and each plant costed around about a million to build. There is also the tidal snake project using wave power but I dont think this is producing energy at levels yet to be considered viable on a bigger scale yet. Northern Ireland is vulnerable. It needs to be energy independent within the next 5-10 years. Our food production isnt as vulnerable as some island nations but it too could do with improving
  16. Although it may not seem it both Peter and Marty are First Ministers with similar powers (If not identical). Paisley treated Marty as "my deputy" to highlight his own belief of superiority. Whereas Peter and Marty have had a more equal working relationship (despite not doing much or agreeing on much). Marty is not in the leading party so would have no right to be First Minister due to the way Assembly posts work by Party representative. However Sinn Fein can still scupper the move if Marty were to quit and force new assembly elections which Sinn Fein would be likely to win at this stage it seems...
  17. Not that weird. Its the only thing he can do to keep his position. Sinn Fein have the DUP by the balls. They could try and force Robinson out with the current allegations. Once they have him out they can refuse to endorse the nomination of a new First Minister until their demands are met regarding Policing and Justice, 11+ or whatever they wanted. Without reading the news detail I would imagine whoever he nominates gets in without any hassle or needing approved due to it being a leave of absense. He will use the 6 weeks to fight the allegations and if he cant clear his name by then then I would imagine he is finished.
  18. You dont seem to be grasping what he is saying. The banks dont set the prices but their lending conditions do
  19. But Peter says I can add up very quickly when he owes me some money! You turned 60 in September. How does that feel? I have no hangups about age. I have a very youthful outlook.
  20. Maybe I missed part of the interview or didnt quite take it in properly... Iris the Virus received 2 payments of £25000 by cheque which she then passed on to Captain Kirk who then gave her £5000 cash. FF died and there was no agreement to pay him back. What? Why would he not want £25000 back? Or is it a case that he died before and agreement could be made with solicitors and therefore be binding? Does his family or those who benefitted from his will not find it odd that £25000 disappeared? GC paid £25000 and did want it back. The affair went sour and Iris demanded near immediate repayment of the £50000. Forcing Captain Kirk to sell half his share of the cafe. Why did Captain Kirk repay £50000 if she only gave him £45000? For some sort of entrepenurial genuis he isnt exactly worrying many lightbulbs. Why was £25000 going to Peter's sister's church? I assumed that was FF's £25000. Iris the Virus was adament that had to be made to the church and the other £25000 was to come to her due to debt she incurred in the process. What debt did she incur in the process? She passed cheques from one person to another. She got a £5000 backhander. Now if £25000 has went to the church and £25000 to Iris where is the £25000 that GC was owed? Did he waive that £25000 for the letter that Iris sent to support his developement? My sisters were talking over the ending so I wasnt very clear about it. Repeat on at 14:30pm BBC News channel
  21. they will lie their way through that budget and paint as rosey a picture as they think they can get away with. Emergency budget from the Tories in August/September?
  22. There was a TV show on Channel 4 recently showing that it has always been changing and and how it ended certain civilizations in the past and even helped homo sapiens become dominant at the expense of neanderthals. The obvious examples of climate change would be the frozen Thames in Victorian times and the growing of grapes in Tudor times. The big questions though are whether we have caused this current change and if we have can it be repaired?
  23. Alot of people believe that Peter was going to have to resign. I can see no reason yet for this and this interview may be an invitation for the media to leave them alone and cloud over other things such as something that Peter would have to resign over. There was a question regarding questions Spotlight had asked and Peter was quite clear that these questions did not relate to HIM which if we fill in gaps mean it could link to Iris and in one of the interviews it was said that she asked friends for money to help the man she had the affair with to start a business? How this could link to an NI HPC? Was the business enterprise linked to a housing development? Was his original business property related? I think it was said that initially she met the man through him being depressed at the loss of his business? (happy to be corrected) 18 months ago wouldn't have been far away from peak and the start of the crash? Is he a developer? Was he linked to the Robinson property dealings? More importantly if Peter had to resign who would replace him in the DUP? Sammy Wilson? Nigel Dodds? They both could be decisive decision makers but Wilson strikes me more as a loose cannon and would decide what he thinks best rather than what he is advised (climate change). What if the DUP decided to cut their losses and call an assembly election at the same time as the Westminster one? Could that see a Sinn Fein First Minister? edit "Over a year and a half ago I was involved in a relationship. It began completely innocently when I gave support to someone following a family death. I encouraged friends to assist him by providing financial support for a business venture. " Family death and not business collapse as I had thought. I think there is alot more to come out and look forward to the Spotlight show due in 2 weeks (if it will still go ahead)
