  1. I came in here expecting an announcement on Suspension Forks....
  2. You may be barking up the wrong tree with some Company Car Allowances. In many cases they are just additional cash which is itemised as an equivalent of receiving a company car. e.g. I receive £x car allowance on top of my basic salary. It is paid as £x/12 each month through payroll (subject to PAYE and NI) and I am under no obligation to use it on car expenses. So, when applying for a mortgage, I would quote the total of my salary and car allowance as my "Salary". I would, however, argue that expenses payments for business use of a private car should not be included as "Salary".

  8. 2 bed semi, with an AGA for cooking. Separate gas central heating. Approx £80 per month
  9. Older people trading down? There must be quite a few of these. My wife's granny bought a £400k house with cash.

  12. I'm renting and have just taken delivery of 12 massive rolls of loft insulation to lay myself... If it makes our bedrooms warmer, and cuts our fuel bills, it (and £36) is a small price to pay.
  13. And I'm in Cuckfield, just the other side of Haywards Heath. Also happy to help. schmunk
  14. Except that if one actually reads the article one soon realises that the £276k figure is total ballcocks sensationalist journalism. For a start, it includes £45k of employer pension contributions - do you include these when you calculate your income...? A further £60k related to work performed in the previous year! The remaining £170k is still very high for a headmaster, and perhaps requires further analysis, but is certainly not the £276k quoted...
  15. Yes - let's see what happens when the mortgage lenders make their valuation...
  16. I'll bet that there used to be a masthead amplifier in the loft and the previous tenant took it with them - this is what happened to me. ~£30-40 and perhaps 1/2 hour to fix it in. Check whether your freeview box / TV will provide 5v power up the aerial cable (my Humax recorder does) - if so you don't need to buy a separate power supply. It'll do wonders. Edit: I have a Vision C12554 from http://www.satcure.com/accs/page11c.htm. You will also need to ensure you buy F connectors and silicone grease (or ready-made cables).
  17. Remember that you are renting from the landlord, not his agent. You will have signed an agreement at the beginning of the tenancy, and this is what you should go by. However, if the cleaning items are on the agreement, and you feel they had not been done before YOU moved in, you should have raised that 5 years ago. It's a bit late now. The leaking roof is useful for any negotiations, but does not directly affect these items. I would suggest you demand to be present at the checkout, even if this means you have to agree a different mutually-convenient day.
