I'm surprised they're allowed to do that, I thought the regulations on electrical equipment in proximity to showers was very strict - had to have a certain IP rating etc. Wouldn't have thought a standard washing machine would have met regs.

I notice that the houses share a communal heating and hot water system and that utilities are paid for through a fixed monthly service charge - presumably you don't have your own electric meter.
