  1. Well the shift to the right appears to the happening if you listen to this weeks reports - tho the radio was backing that up. It would be interesting to see a sky 'press red button now' poll. Suicide rates are likely to rise due them hitting recent low http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4905964.stm (till year end 2004). Haven't we already had the extreme increasing in essentials?? Gas/electric?? Any one got the latest - unspun crime figures??
  2. Just been browsing over on MSE and found the following in this property forum: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=185006 Seems that at least in Doncaster, the quite EA offices as noticed in other threads is backed up..
  3. Well this has been predicted for some time Does anyone have any clue on how long it would take for the government to make this legal? or even how far along the plans it will already be (if at all) to be leaked to the papers?
  4. Wasn't there a recent study (within the last 6 months) that showed that the current generation of kids won't live as long as their parents. I'm sure it was a Radio 4 breakfast piece, and highlighted that poor diet, processed foods, lack of exercise and growing levels of obesity as the reasons. Thinking aloud I fully expect pension ages to be raised to 70, life expectancy to drop to about 71 while at the same time the government will keep fudging CPI/RPI so that those inflation linked schemes won't actually cost that much in real terms. With a HPC lowering RPI, it might allow the country to get out it's pension crisis technically - even if it does leave thousands poor.
  5. Well i'm not suprised, for those of us that have ISA's the rate keep falling!! Halifax have just dropped theirs 4.75%, Abbey's has been cut. If you can't read the market and want to at least try and stay ahead of inflation, Maxi ISA's look the only sensible thing! It's gutting watching my saving rates slow tick down!!
  6. I imagine something using VOIP can give the message and record the call to your PC. Maybe an addon to skype etc??
  7. Wow.. Thanks guys for taking the time & effort. Any chance of getting the whole segment online?? Rather than just the highlights..
  8. I've been thinking about this.. and I sure that GB is going to allow it as it saves the debt laden majority. While everyone keeps says it will import inflation, due to a more expensive oil/fuel etc, It will allow room for wage inflation. Given a 10% fall in the UK pound, and hence a 10% increase in oil/gas, but also then 10% hike in wages, This would keep the percentage spent on oil/gas the same, but lower the debt burden by 10%. There would be other impacts, but what stops the general principle? <edit> - international trade.. money flows out the country as we import more than export. In closed loop I could see it all working, </edit> What is to stop wage inflation matching the fall in a devaluing £ ? Is it possible to just create wage inflation in this manner?
  9. How many Barclaycard customers actively use their card? 80%, 90%?? Are there 20% than just have the card for holidays/emergencies - Do these count as paying off their balance every month?
  10. Was looking to buy/sort myself out financally and found it linked from the moneysavingexpert.com property forums.. At the time I was looking to buy the cheapest house available in a roughish area, only 100% more than the 2003 prices My offer was declined, even tho it was the highest (an offer had been agreed in morning). It was a lucky escape and at least now I'm better prepared.
  11. It would be interesting to see the overall website hits MSE is getting now. I wouldn't be suprised to see a massive increase in the number of hits, mirroring HPC's growth.
  12. Is the Oz market fully in sync? i.e is there a uniform raise/fall across the country? In the Uk at the moment, the VI spin seems to be that just because The east side of Preston on the two roads surrounding the crack house has increased in value the whole of the UK is experiencing a boom! The locallised drag factors in the UK seems to playing a massive part, with people failing to realising prices are falling in certain areas.
  13. Da beers go to very very long length to keep control of the diamond market. They push the fact that there's is a natural diamond and therefore better. However scientifically the man made diamonds are more perfect, Da beers spot man made diamonds by looking at the sub-mirco structure, real diamonds have uneveness in the carbon bonds and structure while man made is mathematically perfect.
  14. Sky's lunch time news were spinning on the latest high street figures, suggesting that it's now more likely for the BoE to cut rates to keep consumer confidence high. If Brown's men in the BoE do force a cut.. I wouldn't be suprised if Merv walks away.. I know I will (leave sterling)
  15. Do you think it could have been anything to do with sipps?
  16. Well my parents don't really like me muttering about the housing market, and while I see major problems with the UK econom. Up here it looks like this area will be the last the reverse the HPI up trend. They have kindly left out a letter from our local EA: (must be hint to get my own place ) As a FTB needing a massive price reduction to buy I'm happy to see the above... it ties in with what is happening in order parts of the UK. Thanks to HPC i now ask "why would a EA sent this out?" I know the improved sinificantly certiainly doens't appear true, however there really is a STC sale on my street by this agent.. - I thought they might be lying Of course receiving this my parents will believe it will all the spin attached.. Other parts of the picture are building.. reduced signs, new lower prices in EA windows. The local Halifax EA, now seems to part Building society as well. There has been a massive increase in the number of classified ads locally - something I see as another sign. Over xmas the shops weren't very busy on the weekend I was out shopping. Several shops (inc MVC) have closed recently, a aqua massage place in now up for sale, and the local tanning/nail shop has reduced it's opening hours and is now seems to employ only one girl. I know a few poeple who's low skill manual jobs are under threat... But then my Brother's (High street chain sports)shop is still reaching target. Flat's seem massively over prices, and they have just put some horrid 280K flats on the market up towards Southport.. even my parents say they won't sell. Oh and I saw my 1st house with two EA signs outside it last week... I sure that a HPC will come, I'm sure that it's going to quite nasty generally in the UK.. but it's seems to be happening in this area in ultra slow slow motion..
  17. Suzuki SV650s http://www.kinesin.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bike/ Has had a few more tweeks since the photo tho.. And to stay on the original topic. Todays CPI results were due to homeware/furniture retailers cutting price. Do todays figures indicate the inflation lag off the high street?
  18. Offset mortgages are normally only better value if you have at least 40% of the mortgage available to offset it - otherwises the saving don't work. Tho if your a big stoozer they can great. If you ready the moneysavingexpert forums there are several users who by stoozing up 80k (working couple) have offset the whole mortgage to zero % credit cards. However by the time I can afford the buy, credit tightening will make this an unlikely option.
  19. If you want permanent lighting on a bike, just get a SON dynamo hub build into the front wheel and a set of lights. All the battery solutions are have less than 3 hours burn time. A SON + HID/new LED stuff is much better. Isn't the major problem feeding power back to the system, and having the infastructure to cope? PV solar cells are great for hot water, but not so good for generating power.
