  1. This attitude is all part of the problem imo. Why needlessly increase the number of households? Why imagine that every single person will be able to have their own 3 bed semi, rather than sharing a mortgage with someone else? We need long term perspective. Owner occupation is relatively new as a mass phenomenon. Previously, many generations of people will have lived in the same family home, even after marriage let alone before. (I’m 25 and don’t live with my parents btw)
  2. where are these going to go? Where are all the people who supposedly need housing in our 3m new homes? We need to be living more efficiently, not creating more suburbs. Particularly as any initially social stock will inevitably be sold off privately as bribes by politicians

  4. I currently live in one of the poorest parts of London. Within the last 5 years I've also lived in the supposed worst off bits of Leeds and Leicester. To call the disadvantages that people face in the UK 'poverty' is insulting to the billion or so people in the world who struggle to eat, be clothed and housed safely, have safe water, get any form of education or healthcare or any other thing that people get here pretty much by default
