  1. ooops http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1221422785...p_us_whats_news Bank of America, Merrill Lynch In Merger Talks By MATTHEW KARNITSCHNIG, SUSANNE CRAIG and DENNIS K. BERMAN September 14, 2008 4:08 p.m. Bank of America and Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. are in merger discussions, according to people familiar with the matter. The talks come amid a Wall Street scramble to sort out a potential liquidation of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Bank of America had considered buying Lehman, but when those talks failed to result in a deal, BofA turned its attention to Merrill, which is considered a
  2. Inflation building in china Rampant inflation in the rodent sector.
  3. I would like to read the minutes of this later.... anyone know where they are published?
  4. "Sticking to your mandate is unacceptable" ... said an MP. Eh?? Mervyn "Go and reflect on what you have said".
  5. Two HPCers already live in Lancefield. Our is £650 pm and the landlord paid £249k. Painful math. Anyway Frugalista, Mrs Frugalista, Shakerbaby and all - we should all meet up in the City Inn on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a pint or two - an HPC Glasgow meet. How are you getting on with your search? I move out in a couple of weeks and mine is up for £650 so PM me and I'll put you in touch with the landlady, kit2two
  6. Smart 2 bed in Lancefield Quay (close to city centre) - v large - south facing (important at these latitudes) - good spec - tend to be advertised for £700-800. I pay £650 and you should be able to negotiate down to this. West end = tenemants. Bit more pricy - but a nicer area. Glasgow Harbour is the latest riverside development - a bit far away from anywhere and looks empty - you may be able to drive a good bargain here as there looks like 200 landlords chasing 20 propective tenants - go in at £500 and settle for £550 for a 2 bed. Bits of Southside, all of Bearsden and Milngavie are the nic
  7. Jun short sterling is 95.25. Can someone explain why arbitrage would not work a treat here? One bet on an IR increase on betfair - another buy on short sterling to mitigate any losses?
  8. kit2two back. Will PM for a pint. Some bloke at my work put in an offer for £150k for one of the flats in Lancefield Quay - a repo. Sold 1.5 years ago for £243k - he is going with a £150k offer. I'll update how it goes - but the losses for landlord here look about 90k each - ouch. I need to drink to this. kit2two
  9. Wife would object. And shakerbaby's "fluff" might get upset with my screaming 6 month old baby....
  10. That's 2 mins walk from my place in Lancefield Quay. The advantage of Lancefiled Quay - the development is so empty that it is really quiet - I have no neighbours in any direction. However - the rent is twice your £300pcm - so I'm paying for it. You seem to have found an excellent deal. I suggest you retire to the Ben Nevis on Argyle Street for a celebratory whiskey ASAP. Cheers, kit2two
  11. FEATURES: Attractive Detached Bugalow http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-528...pa_n=4&tr_t=buy Had a chuckle at this.
  12. I've put a photo of these waterfornt flats (taken tonight) in the trhread http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=15710

  14. not sure what happened there... posted again - this time 2 appeared!
  15. Evening, I'll be short - attached is a photo of the building opposite my (rented) flat - called QE3 and Persimmon. They are discounting in the local papers accoring to other threads. I took the photo a couple of mins ago - 10 pm Saturday night. The flats have been for sale for some time - and there are rarely more lights on than this photo shows - doesn't look very occupied to me. They might be unsold, they might be sold and unlet - either way someones suffering. Also in my complex - 2 flats on my 8 flat tower are being repossed and a firend that lives in the next block is getting turfed out
