  1. I've wasted over £50K renting for the past 4 years waiting for a crash that doesn't seem any closer. So I threw the towel in and bought a 3 bed house last week. I think a crash will eventually come, it has to, but how many more £50Ks do I need to throw away before I see it?
  2. This board used to be interesting and informative. Now it's just a pile of sh1t with a bunch of wannabe commedians. Mods, can't you stop this nonsense?
  3. What's going on with Gold today, up from $1,314 to $1,340 since this morning!
  4. Complete madness. Thankfully the chickens are coming home to roost for the cowboy developer who bought that house.
  5. Cool, thanks for that. So based on that graph we can expect Mortgage rates to return to at least 5.5% (standard variable rate) and could go as high as 8.5%. Does anyone think this is realistic? If it returned to 8.5%, a £270,000 25 year mortgage currently at 4% and a montly repayment of £1,400 would jump to £2,100 per month! Even a return to 7% would work out at £1,930 per month. That is going to hurt a lot of recent buyers real bad.
  6. Hi Guys, does anyone know where I can find a historical graph of average UK bank mortgage rates? Similar to the base rate chart below... Thanks, HelterSkelter.
  7. Independant newspapers was recently sold to a Russian businessman. His vested interests are not the same as the previous owners :-) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8587469.stm
  8. I thought this deserves it's own thread. According to the Rightmove house price index released today, London house prices are down 4.1%. The media are only reporting on the national drop of 1.7% but this is much more significant. So many people have been claiming London would not see the same property price drops as the rest of the country. Could the opposite be happening. Look at page 6 of the report: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/news/files/2010/08/august-2010.pdf
  9. Gold bubble stories are going mainstream. Time to get out of gold?
  10. Smart move by the Queen. She knows a massive property crash is just around the corner so she is selling off property at high prices now and will buy back when prices have hit rock bottom.
  11. Just wondering what you guys think of his predictions. He is a big promotor of buying gold. He thinks there will be a major currency crash within the next year. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=videos&search_query=gerald+celente&search_sort=video_recently_uploaded&suggested_categories=25
  12. Hi Guys, I have made the decision to gradually transfer my savings to Gold. I have decided on buying gold coins as I do not trust any of the online gold accounts. I don't know what crooks are behind them, my gold could easily disappear as some other investments have. Anyway that is a discussion for another day. I was wondering where is the best place to store gold coins? I am only buying a small amount to start with, about £4K. This is 5 gold coins so would be really easy to hide at home in a place where they will not be easily found. Do you recommend this or is there a better place to put them? A storage facility perhaps? Safety deposit box? Or somethere else? Thanks in advance for your advice.
  13. I am thinking of buying Gold coins from these guys http://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/. Does anyone have any experience with them? And can anyone tell me why a one ounce Britannia is £25 more expensive than a one ounce Krugerrand? http://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/gold-coins/ Thanks.
  14. Hi Guys, Would just appreciate your opinion on whether it is safer to keep my savings in Euro or Sterling. Take the following two circumstances: 1) I sometimes get paid in Euro into a bank account in Ireland. It is safer to keep the money here in Euro or transfer to a Sterling bank account in the UK? 2) My other income is paid in Sterling into a UK bank account. Would I be better keeping this money in this account or transfer to the irish Euro bank account? Thanks.
  15. Buy with friends, help from the family, Shared equity schemes.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/article-1243732/How-foot-property-ladder.html
  16. Not at all. You will easily pay 6 Euro for a pint in Central Dublin.
  17. That's not true. The Brendan who owns askaboutmoney.com is Brendan Burgess. AFAIK O'Conner has nothing to do with it.
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8281986.stm How can the BBC say M&S sales are improving when the sales have fallen by 0.5%? The media are desperatly trying to talk up the economy
  19. I live in SW19 and negociated a 15% reduction two months back. I agreed to sign a new tenancy agreement with no breakout clause for 6 months. I'll try to reduce it again when that expires :-)
