  1. I've tried searching but have failed to find a recent (2 months) thread listing all of the government policies that support house prices (SMI etc). Can anyone point me to it? Thanks Jim
  2. A bit of a longshot, but might need to relocate to this area. We love the town centre but haven't had much of a chance to see the surroundings. Any decent but not overpriced areas? Specifically near good Primary school(s)? Cheers
  3. I'm no Gold ramper, but this feels like the Friday before some big Capital Market news... Gold doesn't just drop $76 because someone feels that it is overvalued. Maybe Errol is right. A big (managed) bank failure this weekend?? **Disclosure. I bought another sovereign at £248 this afternoon. *** For the first time Bulionbypost.com are stating:
  4. Just disposed of some filthy fiat at www.bullionbypost.co.uk
  5. Yes. I'm out in West Sussex. A nice ex LHA 2.5 bed semi can be rented for less than £1300pcm. It's quite the bargain basement out here.
  6. I'm personally not close enough to the primary evidence to have a definitive position on man made climate change however you do realise that one of the noted effects of shrinking ice caps is the shutdown of thermohaline circulation eg the Gulf Stream. If that happens (and evidence suggests that it has been happening steadily since the 1950's) then the UK would experience average temperature falls in the face of global warming.
  7. As a johnny come lately I bought 2.7 BTC a few weeks ago just to see what the fuss was all about. I paid $79. Apparently Blockchain is now telling me that they are worth $155.. That said there is a very good chance that they could become worthless overnight.... Who knows!
  8. The 2013 Budget of the BTL brigade has another hidden gem: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/how-budget-affect-me/9943466/Budget-2013-Sipps-may-be-allowed-to-hold-residential-property.html I'm this close to packing in the job and paying zero tax....
  9. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/houseprices/9919021/UK-housing-market-is-stuck-on-the-second-step.html Typical financially illiterate journo drivel. Plus we are now hearing that the over-leveraged first time owners are looking to be bailed out via the banks..... At least the comments (as usual) are more realistic
  10. This isn't a Gold collapse, this is a temporary USD rally. With Eurozone fears escalating and the well signalled Aa1 rating drop for GBP the USD has enjoyed a new year bounce. A gold collapse will occur if growth returns in all major markets and inflation falls sharply.
  11. Christ Brian May's let himself go. That hair colouring doesn't suit him at all...
  12. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/9853747/How-house-prices-have-risen-43-fold-since-1971.html Quite.
  13. I also love this graph, not sure I've seen a similar one for the UK. For some reason that link isn't showing all the time.. Here is a link to the blog entry http://www.greaterfool.ca/2013/01/25/the-f-effect/
  14. I've got friends in Vancouver and a few other Canadian cities. Only one is HPC aware, and he is a fan of this guy: http://www.greaterfool.ca/ I think you will all like his style!
  15. You clearly don't have pre-school kids. 3 and 4 year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of free early education each week for 38 weeks of the year. So that's 3 hours a day, and you still have to pay for the other 14 weeks. Our son was at nursery full time and we spent £1,200pcm, which dropped to £700ish when the free sessions kicked in.
  16. No, really, explain how this is more complicated.
  17. FFS am I the only one here wondering what the ****** this is all about. Get a job, pay for your accommodation. If you are unexpectedly laid off, then get emergency accommodation. END. OF. STORY. Everyone else can go into a workhouse. Simple.
  18. Based on the last 6 years of watching these 'monumentous' events unfold (the midnight TARP vote, Lehmans collapse, Northern Rock bank run, Deepwater Horizon, Fiscal Cliff, Syngenta Square etc), I can safely say that this event will pass with barely a whimper.
  19. Just as a heads up, David Malone (aka Golem) has just posted up a mea culpa apology for some of his conclusions in that article. http://www.golemxiv.co.uk/2012/12/an-apology/ Kudos to him for 'manning' up.
  20. Honestly, if RB believes that the Earth was created after we domesticated the dog then ****** him and his spurious predictions, he is obviously a loon. Scientific Method trumps all.
  21. £60/week for housing costs?? WTF!?! My rent for a bog standard 2.5 bed semi is £1150 per month... or £287 per week.. forget the leccy, gas, water etc. Council tax is £24 per week ALONE! I may live in the South East but ****** me I'd live like a sodding King with rent/mortgage of less than £240 per month. Maybe I've just misread my tenancy agreement all this time. Maybe my rent is actually a more 'average' £115.00 per month and I've just been massively overpaying....
  22. Cumbernauld. Ooooh how I hate that place. The place where I have to send my HMRC payments to.....
  23. What pisses me off is that this BS just provokes the boomers into believing that young people are wildly unrealistic in their aspirations for a first home.
