  1. Exactly, and anyway, they are my nearest shop. And as i don't drive (yet), I don't like having to walk too far with my shopping (Tesco's is still over half a mile away).
  2. To be honest, I don't think i can deal with siuch an ignorant and backward view. Wow! My head hurts.
  3. I agree. In Exeter, generally the worst drivers are middle-aged men - who drive aggressively, don't use indicators and often speed on inappropriate roads. That said, Exeter has some of the worst drivers i've seen anywhere. Ever. The boy-racers and chavs (of which there are tons in Exeter - more so than anywhere else i've lived tbh.) may generally drive slightly better, but seem to like swearing and beeping horns at pedestrians, staring you down as they drive past (in a thretening fashion) and like throwing stuff at passing pedestrians. I've never experienced anything like this before, in any place i've ever lived or been.
  4. So should Tony Blair. In fact, if theres one person I dislike more than Gordon Brown, its Tony Blair. If it were down to me, Tony Blair would be facing life imprisonment. The jury is out on Gordon Brown, but if our economy crashes much further (as a result of stupid economic policy), he would be facing a similar fate. Of course, i'm not in charge of the UK.
  5. Talking of Yvette Cooper, she was absolutely awful when she was on the Channel 4 news the other day talking about the budget. Everything she said was so mechanical, almost like she was reading pre-written answers off a script, and seemed to like avoiding giving answers to the questions she was receiving.
  6. That article is funny, though it wouldn't surprise me if they introduced it. They need to make up the money from all these insane bail-outs and ultra-profligate spending somehow... Just as well I don't wear glasses anymore!
  7. With some of the posts he has put on this thread, I'm sure it can't be far away now... He JUST DOESN'T GET that high house prices are NOT adding any value to the economy. All it does is decreases the disposable income of an individual, which with decreasing real world wages (when corrected for cost of living), is just making life harder for everyone. I get it, it sucks to have brought property any time since 2001, but pricing out hardworking people in NOT the answer.
  8. A good point is made here. Isn't much of the increase in sales value possibly a result of the pound losing a lot of its value (and hence a result of short-wave inflation and currency instability)? Therefore wouldn't these values be significantly distorted, and hence unrealiable?
  9. I like the graph in your signature by the way. Its interesting how the house price line and wage line diverge exponentially apart from eachother from about the point NuLabour got into power...
  10. I'd take could being used twice in the same sentence to mean "we really have no clue - we are just guessing OR we don't geniunely believe in it, but want to say we do" or words to that effect. Its deliberately vague...
  11. I'm a weather forecaster, and I can confirm that there were extended periods of blocking, and therefore light winds this winter. There were fewer storms than a normal winter as well.
  12. Excellent post this, couldn't agree more. House prices need to fall back in line with salaries (I can't see salaries rising to converge to current house prices tbh.). The correction will be tough, but it needs to happen.
  13. You have overlooked one very significant fact here; HOUSE PRICES WERE HIGHLY OVERPRICED IN THE FIRST PLACE! Yeah it is unfortunate that those who brought post 2002, are looking at being in significant negative equity, but thats just the way it is. House prices need to correct to a level which is commensurate with wages. Period. Its a shame many homeowners (the overwhelming majority who brought post 2002) will be harmed by the collateral damage due to this correction, but thats the way things are.
  14. In a few years, when we've had a nasty bout of the ol' hyperinflation, no doubt...
  15. It would be nice to imprison them both for Theft/Fraud and Incitement of hatred toward a group of people. Hopefully they get 20 years imprisonment each. I won't hold my breath...
  16. Sums NuLabour up completely. They are all horrid liars. The sooner they are out, the better.
  17. Its been pretty slow tonight. I couldn't even get onto the site for the last 10 minutes.
  18. What about people who do essential jobs but happen to work in the public sector? As an example, UK airports use forecasts produced by weather forecasters, say at the Met Office. In fact such forecasts are essential for safety and operation of the airport. Many who work at such organisations don't do so because its public sector, but because the job is interesting. What i'm saying is that not all public sector workers are immoral for working in the public sector. I agree there are a huge number of non-jobs (the number of which has increased exponentially since NuLabour got into power), but there are also some who do more important jobs.
  19. I was referring to land in remote locations, such as up a hill side in Cumbria or remote parts of Scotland. Most of the land in the UK by area is owned by someone or another.
  20. Its a good idea, though could only be done if you have brought the land off someone, or build the property where no-one owns the land.
  21. Its a pretty dramatic drop! Can't help but think its a typographical error though, given it seems very cheap (even though its not the nicest property) for inner London.
