Ignore function is still there for me...? I hover over an avatar on left hand side in the thread and can click to ignore user, then it takes me to the next page where I specify what to ignore (posts / direct messages etc) -

"UK household demand for credit card borrowing plunges at record pace amid Brexit uncertainty"

I have an ISA with them that exceeds their loan offer amount, which I guess from their side makes the offer safe for them... I dont own a house/mortgage though. -

In the last 10 days HSBC have emailed me twice, unprompted, with their marketing push - I do bank with them though: HSBC Personal Loan at 3.3% APR representative on amounts of £7,000 - £15,000 for 1 to 5 years Also: The new year is a chance to start afresh, and whatever plans you have, you could make them happen with an HSBC Personal Loan. You’re highly likely to be accepted for a loan of up to £25,000 and, because we already know you, it’s quick and easy to apply on the go. If your application is approved, the money will be in your account instantly. I have no need for it & so havent actually tested whether they actually would give it. -

I particularly enjoyed the final paragraph about what the Treasury is currently considering: But it is also believed to be examining ways to close loopholes which have allowed many landlords to escape higher buy to let taxes by “incorporating” their property portfolios. -

Lies, damned lies and favourite stats - competition
BearlyBegun posted a topic in House prices and the economy
Via BBC - Royal statistical society looking for entries for a competition https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-45285615 "To celebrate the power of numbers to shine a light on fake news and bogus claims, the Royal Statistical Society runs a competition for the best statistic of the year. They want people to send in the stat that captures the zeitgeist of 2018, or in some way reveals something surprising or powerful - a hitherto unseen truth." I imagine the HPC massive have a good few "favourite" lies in stats when it comes to the UK housing market and economy? -

CNBC: Two thirds of London property withdrawn and not sold
BearlyBegun replied to lombardo's topic in House prices and the economy
Makes a further mockery of the Rightmove Asking Prices index - even more useless than I thought if two-thirds of them are subsequently withdrawn! -
I had a pint outside in Hyde park recently, by the serpentine - served in a plastic pint cup that carried a print saying "I am not a normal plastic cup" or something like that. I googled the company and found out it was made of PLA which is a type of plastic made from organic base. Looked and felt exactly like any other plastic pint cup I have come across but apparently this cup when exposed to elements (landfill/composted) it breaks down completely in 6-24months. I really cannot believe that we havent banned normal plastics for at least all the ordinary plastic cups/cutlery/straws etc that are used in the UK. I'm sure many other products could also be made using this PLA or similar organic plastics that break down quickly... I dont know why we havent forced the market over to these other options. Surely the public opinion would be behind this kind of policy?

City AM Property market to become 'flooded' as 380,000 landlords look to sell-up
BearlyBegun replied to house-down's topic in House prices and the economy
Landlord: I'm going to sell my flat at < insert insane amount here > so consequently I'm asking you to leave at the end of your fixed term Tenant: Sure, understand. However it seems you are having trouble selling - how about I stay on a month by month basis at 50% the normal rent, just till you sell it? Landlord: OK, thats good for me - I'm sure this will sell soon though so be prepared to leave sharpish! 3months later = tumbleweed, even after the flat is reduced a few times...* * based on a true london story
