Affect Of Blanket Uk Guarantee On Saving Rates?
Deckard replied to The Masked Tulip's topic in House prices and the economy
Very good question TMP. Irish Banks haven't lowered their rates - however they must have experienced huge outflows in the last few days before the guarantee was announced, and still desperately need inflows IMO. Ultimately, in a world where all governments have issued guarantees on savings the factors to bear in mind when choosing your bank(s) will be the same as before... -
Peston: Uk To Guarantee All Deposits ?
Deckard replied to Ash4781's topic in House prices and the economy
LOL!!! A EU wide solution? There is no such thing... Germany guaranteed all savings accounts a short while ago - which completely flies in the face of the main statement on co-ordinated action coming out of Sarkozy's meeting yesterday. THIS IS PANIC The UK govt will have to guarantee all savings by the end of next week. -

Before WWII, WWI was know as "the Great War". If we really are witnessing the beginning of a new World Depression, even greater than one started in 1929, shouldn't we start talking about WDI and WDII ? Judging by the sheer number of posts on this topic, WDII Watch seems to be the appropriate name for this forum going forward!!!
