  1. Cheers! I'll read the book before I do anything else. I guess when you started your journey for financial freedom things looked different then in terms of what is possibly coming? If it all plays out like DB and others say it will in the near future what would you change? Or what are you going to change about what you hold etc?
  2. Thorn, it's like information overload! The boxset reading of this entire thread in Feb gave me a few more grey hairs but it's amazing the information you take in and how most people aren't aware of what's coming. My next step was miners and IBTL. But going to start my S&S ISA with HL first. Not sure what to put in it for long term though!!
  3. Thanks WICAO. As I've said I'm pretty new to this but get what you are saying. I'm really on a steep learning curve and was looking at your website (your link above) and bought your kindle book last week but have yet to get reading. If you mean by diversification I still have other cash sitting around to take advantage of any oppotunities plus I've bought some silver and gold coins. But share/fund wise it was £100k split into those shares. There was plenty of warning of carrilion (I think) before they went t*ts up? So hopefully the companies I've chosen above are good / sound defensive ones. But any advice on further diversification on equities in this current enviroment is welcome.
  4. Long time member (2008) but first post. Just felt the need to say thankyou to DB and others for the content of this thread. I never took much notice of it until the middle of Feb when I did the 'boxset' version which took a couple of days! It really gave me a kick up the a**se. I've never bought a share in my life and always thought it was for rich people but decided to join HL (never heard of them till this discussion) and start researching shares. I know you all say DYOR, but this thread WAS my research and continues to be my main source. So on the back of all the above and having £100k doing nothing but sitting in a rubbish paying savings account I jumped in from around Feb 20th to around mid March. All the shares I bought seemed to be still going down and have been for quite awhile. I bought Drax, Sirius, Imperial, Go-Ahead, Centrica, SSE, Stagecoach, Glaxo, Nat Grid, Vodaphone. It seemed luck was on my side! They have all done very well since then but I'm aware this could change and watch like a hawk trying not to hit the sell button when they go down for a day!!! Overtrading I think it's called? Either way, a huge thankyou to all concerned.

Conversation goes like this: ME: look mate I want to sell ASAP EA: Don't they all (Smirks) ME: Well last year this place should have got around £380k EA: Yes I agree ME: As I said, I want to sell as I inherited this place years back and have no mortgage.....lucky me eh? EA: Yes lucky you! So tell me, what sort of price are you looking for now? ME: Stick it on for £250k and I'm open to offers. EA:(GOES WHITE) There is no WAY I'm going to put it on for THAT price!! ME: Oh ok (thinking I've overpriced it) So what do you think it should go on for? EA: I'll put it on for £360k with a view to getting £330 - £350K!!!! ME: YOU WHAT?!?! Mate I want to sell the ******* place, I'm not fussed about what I get as I'm leaving the UK. EA: You don't understand Mr Harp! As I've said there are quite a number of properties like yours around here on for around that price (£360k) and if we price yours so below theirs they will be very upset and you will be selling your property for LESS than it's worth!. ME: Well, THEIR properties are on for TOO much then? That's THEIR lookout, isn't it? EA: Well we couldn't accept your instruction if you insist thats the price you want to market your property at. ME: (laughing my ******* head off) Mate you can go now! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! ohmy.gif
