You will find that council tax in Wales is based on 2003 prices. http://www.voa.gov.uk/council_tax/cti_home.htm
  2. FFS, I come onto HPC this morning, and suddenly it is all pastel coloured. What's next? Laminate flooring? Oh and it takes forever to load each page.

  4. I do get tired of MW pumping their crappy newsletter full of dodgy get rich schemes. Now if they find gold in Tokyo.....
  5. My OH phoned me twice from John Lewis last week on the day it opened in CF, telling me how marvellous it is/was.
  6. Dopamine, I guess congrats are in order. I think most people end up buying more for personal reasons that economic ones. We had to buy several years ago, to satisfy OH's nesting instinct.
  7. In fact he (Clegg) may as well have said that he is abandoning his pledge to make your balls the size of pomegranates or cover China in a gigantic, Paisley-patterned table cloth. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/pol...n-200909212077/
  8. Just happened to come across an article on living in VN, which highlights so many of the things I love about living there. http://www.chicagotribune.com/travel/chi-l...81.story?page=1
  9. You are correct, it seems to be culturally inbred in VN. It is just something you have to learn to deal with. Never been to S. America so really can't comment. I am sort of no fixed abode at the moment, since I work on rotation in the oil business. At this moment I am in Nigeria. If you think the UK is bad you should come here!
  10. For me it is Vietnam. I lived there for 3.5 years and it changed my life completely. I won't real specifics on a public forum, but it is sweet FA to do with the price of food. Of course my view is biased for numerous personal reasons.
  11. Trust me, I am more than thankful that it was your ME experience and not mine.
  12. My point was that the previous poster was painting far too an idealistic picture of life in the Middle East. Interesting thread on the main board regarding this issue (Dubai), where the consensus seems to be that living in a medieval theocracy may not be for some. I would agree with your view that no where is perfect. However, parts of SE Asia do get pretty close (IMHO).
  13. With the real bonus of a beheading every other weekend! j/k - I too have been a expat since 1996.
