  1. Obama should support Intel to the hilt. They have 12 manufacturing fabs in the world. 7 in America 3 in Ireland 1 in Isreal and ! in China. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_manufacturing_sites
  2. The nest piece is on the buy Spanish property pitch from their minister. Shame JD could not give two barrels to that chap.
  3. My parents bought the family home in 1972 for 2500 quid. They go for 400K now and that is not London either. I would love to know what my father was earning then.
  4. Diesel was 129.9 when Georgie announced the no rise in duty now it is 132.9 round my way but sainsburies kept it at 129.9 for a long while.
  5. It does not need to, as soon as there are sales of large companies investment banks get involved for the fees to fund the bonuses. Private equity may even buy some of these companies to stuff them full of debt to pay bonuses and the lawyers will be circling like vultures. Do you know that when Brown saved the banks, the banks and the lawyers charged us 150mill quid for advice. It was those fxckers that caused themeselves to go bust and then charged the taxpayers 150million to allow us the pleasure of saving them.
  6. But they are gaining valuable work experience and skills that will lead to higher salaries in the future. Of course they could have said I am worth 30K a year and stay on the dole for the rest of their lives.
  7. Our previous Government is so proud of the mess they have made that they publish the figures online. http://www.statistics.gov.uk/hub/government/index.html Personal debt is in the economy section, government debt is under the government section. Also do a search for post endogenous growth theorem, developed by one of the most stupid people ever to hold office. In simple terms it is "borrow money to pump up the economy, whilst telling the population that everything is rosy in the garden and there will be no more boom and bust and then when there is a bust, blame the yanks."
  8. The author of this article is missing the point. He is bleating on about Ireland not being able to tap the bond markets for some cheap money at rates of the past when the world thought Germany would always bail out, so that Ireland can live beyond it's means again and spend more of their childrens taxes. Those days are gone Ireland, Greece, Portugal will never be able to borrow on the markets at bund rate + less than a percent, the future is 10% rates for them all, if at all. They can bleat on about the EU saying one thing and the ECB doing something different, well welcome to the real world where Germany runs the fiscal policy of the eurozone via the ECB and Germany and the ECB want the periphery countries to live within their means and only spend what they collect in taxes. The plan is working wonderfully well to date. First off force the PIG to become dependent on short term ECB money, then threaten to pull the money unless German and ECB officials are in control of the PIG country finance departments - Done. Then bring in legislation that from 2013 onwards Germany will not be liable for any PIG debt so future interest rates will be high for PIG countries - in progress. Then stop any more loans to the PIGS so they have to live within their means. Job done, the risk of the PIGS destroying the Euro in the future has gone away because they can only spend what they raise. People say they should default and if they did all Germany would do is use the EFSF or the ESM to recapitalise the German, French and Spanish banks and stop the money going to the PIG govt's and because the PIG govts have just defaulted on Russian, US, Chinese, Japanese, etc banks they they would still not be able to get any money raised on the debt markets. So they would instantly go to having to live within their means, which is what Germany and the ECB wants all along. Heads Germany wins, tails Germany wins.
  9. Get oil to 200 bucks plus a barrel and she will be able to make her own stuff competitively.
  10. Explain it to us then. Person A votes first preference con second preference UKIP. Person B votes respect then Arthur Scargill then communist. First round respect last. Person A#s first vote still stands, person b first vote discarded so now they get a second go and have chosen Arthur Scargill so they have effectively voted twice. They have had a second go whilst person A has not. Everyone has one vote in every round but only a limited people votes are changed in everyround, meaning they effectively vote multiple times for different parties even if it is only one vote in every round.
  11. That was Max Mosleys excuse.
  12. The message the oldies (who will vote, unlike the yoof) is "you are sensible voters, why should the stupid yoof be allowed to vote for looney left parties and then be allowed to have another vote for another looney left party when the first party is kicked out, when your vote will only count once." Very powerful message to the old even if it is a negative campaigning message. Also has the ring of truth. Vote for the communists, then vote for the socialsit workers party, then vote for respect, then vote for scargills real labour party, etc, etc. Why should people who vote for minority parties get to vote time and time again?
  13. This is an interesting graph from Citi. If you look at public sector investment it is way down and this has to be affecting construction because that is basically all it is (also as a side note this is a result of Darlings last budget which halved the public investment budget which was ironic because at the time Brown was on his Keynsian rant about spending taxpayer money bringing investment forward to create jobs). Also of note look at the business investment, this will be for increased production and increased effciency and bodes well for the future. Also exports as well. If only Huhne would build enough nukes to provide 90% of our elecy to guarantee supply to manufacturers (remember when the winter was very cold gas was turned off from business so the people could keep warm) we have a chance of doing well as a country in the future. Osbourne is taking the long view to rebalance the economy as opposed to Brown who would have stoked a house price, consumption boom because that would be eaiser to achieve. Osbourne should at least get some credit for trying to what is right for the country.
  14. The 700 UK people should get jobs no problem as they have experience in a technology that is growing smartphones and apps. It is the Finns that should be worried, back in 2000 Nokia was 3.3% of Finnish GDP but 40% of exports. This has steadily declined to 1.6% of GDP and not a lot of exports as cheap phones are now made in Chindia.
  15. And that Nice Yes campaigner Huhne, compares calls people Nazis. Wow that is nice of him.
  16. But in there own reader online poll of would Brown be good at the imf job it was about 60 40 in the no camp.
  17. He gets to shout at staff, throw Nokia's around and generally bully the staff. Absolute nectar to a control freak.
  18. Internet forums are a great place to make a fool out of oneself. First off Dixons? Is this the Internet only brand of Dixons Retail Group that does not have one Store in the UK with Dixons over the door (with the exception of Dixons Travel at airports? Then again perhaps you did not bother to read the post that I responded to where the guy said that he was An INDEPENDENT HIGH STREET RETAILER. Not out of town store so of course if you accidentally meant to type PC World or Currys.digital still not relevant because they are primarily out of town retailers. So lets talk about what I was responding to independent high street retailers. As you have said high rents, high rates, etc are a disincentive to these types of retailers and they make up a lot of the character of our towns and cities and tend not to sell electrical goods any way, that is an internet/out of town area. We have tourists and day trippers that like to visit places like Chester, Stratford-upon-Avon etc and part of that enjoyment is seeing a diverse high street and culture, not row upon row of chav bars, fast food joints, amusement arcades and betting shops. So now we basically have the large internet retailers all operating the channel islands vat scam and other tax avoidance scams like invoicing in belgium so no vat is liable, etc, etc. So applying a 10% sales tax on all internet sales (with no legal option to get out off which you can not do with VAT because of EU rules) yet exempting sole traders doing less 100K and then all independent retailers in the high street with the exception of bars, fast food, etc reduce their business rates to zero. Then as there would be loads of money left over pay for the repairs to their shops or to smarten them up, then with money still left over encourage with grants bakeries, local produce shops, local crafts shops, farmers co-operative shops, etc to replace the chav joints that are becoming ever present in our towns. Then again we could do nothing and then be forced to sit at home with all our nice cheap electrical goods because the towns are all nogo ugly chav war zones and be forced to buy processed food from tescos because they have bought up all the farms in the UK and control supply.
  19. As you have so eloquently pointed out high street shops are burdened with all sorts of costs which mean that they can not afford to stock a wide range whereas internet retailers which are not burdened with extra costs can. A rebalancing needs to be done.
  20. I am starting to think Japan scenario for the UK as well.
  21. I sympathise with you. I have long thought that the govt should introduce a special tax on internet retailers as they are killing the high street. When every town centre is a boarded up wasteland people will moan but they are causing it by looking in the shops and then buying online.
  22. It does mean jobs, just not jobs operating machines. The robots have to be programmed, the robots have to be serviced, the robots have to be monitored via computer, the plnat has to cleaned, the plant has to have a H&S inspection, some body has to manage the non machine operating staff, etc, etc. Do you think there are no robots in chinese plants and everything is done by hand? I am shocked when I see the videos of the manufacturing lines that my brothers firm install. The most recent was to make a branded biscuit thingy in the UK, the mix comes out hits the conveyor, goes though the oven, gets cut, gets packaged, packages get boxed, boxes move to lorries. There are never any people in the videos except the fork lift driver and the lorry driver. I also assume that there is some manual labour to get the base ingredients into the mixer. This is the new world and it does not matter whether it is china or India or Bangladesh the amount of man power in manufacturing is the same the world over. The key to manufacturing in the future is going to be cheap, reliable energy.
  23. http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/ Do it on line. Every time I see her mug on the TV I send of a quick email which includes a hefty dose of the words trougher, cheat, steal, my money, why is she not in prison.
