I felt sorry for the american woman. Imagine hearing the words : "flexible accommodation", "en suite" and "townhouse" buzzing around you when they really mean: "sitting room in the same floor as your spare bedroom, you will never watch TV again while your baby sleeps" and " we have cut a corner of your master bedroom to plonk an bathroom so anything bigger than a double bed will never fit" and "only two rooms per floor, you'll be up and down all day" I DETEST those new builds, I think they are an aberration, I can't see how anyone can spent the best part of 300K to buy a "dining room" which is a square the size of an average table and chairs and thats all. I went around seeing some of these houses, once, measuring tape in hand, and couldnt find one with a bedroom where I could fit a king size bed "and" have space to open the door at the same time. And at least if you are buying them brand new, you can argue what you in lose space you gain in "shiney brand newness". but these houses were 6-10 years old and already had 2 owners! (People who realised they had to choose between storing some odd pots of paint and a broom in the garage "or" the car and moved out while they could.) I felt sorry for the IT guy too. Normally you want to punch these people (espesh in Beeny's shows), but I just felt sorry for them. -
'extreme House Selling' Hits The Uk
Popette replied to Austin Allegro's topic in House prices and the economy
I must be strange, but I'd rather have a reallistic asking price than someone's job thrown in the deal. -

I am another one that doesn't understand the Krusty hatred. I remember Beeny used to make my stomach churn. She used to advise people on TV to spend the minimum possible renovating houses and just do cosmetic changes so they could sell for the maximum profit. Profit profit profit, every time she said it when we were priced out of the market it used to make me sick. We were the losers then that had to borrow an extra 20-30K to pay someone who had painted walls magnolia, changed some cabinet doors and brushed a disgusting loo with bleach for their "hard work". Krusty and Phil helped people find homes (sometimes investment properties, but mostly homes) like St Beeny of the Our Profit, they used to tell people to lower their expectations and be realistic wih what they wanted. Beeny has inspired thousands to raid their pensions and savings to buy to let and to renovate and sell. I actually agree that Krusty's new show is a bit of a joke at best but ever so slightly insulting in the current climate. It's all a bit patronising. "Oh look at this wonderful mirror I got for absolutely nothng" Err Krustz babez, you got it free because you spent 1K in the shop and the shop owner said you are a "good customer". All sounds a bit "I saw you coming" (harry enfield) to me. But I still think Beeny has done more damage, convincing a nation the only job worth doing was "property development" Also Krusty looks she could be pregnant/just had a nipper in the second 2009 photo. Perhaps I don't agree with the majority here because I am not that keen on tits. -
Ea Experience Of Sellers Over 250k
Popette replied to babnye's topic in House prices and the economy
I bought a house in October for 250K that was priced 299K originally. It had been on the market for 10 months. It can be done, but be patient and just try your luck, and keep on trying. The EA with wriggle like worms but who cares if you get a home. -

Popette replied to Malditos_Usureros's topic in House prices and the economy
Whoooooa Brutal, me parece brutal. I am also Spanish and have been living in the UK for more than 10 years and I knew it was bad..but not THIS bad. Estoy acojonada. (Translation: I am starting to get a little bit concerned) -
We've just sold (fingers crossed everything fine, completing in a few days) a 2 bedroom terrace in a street in south reading full of noisy students and dead mice for 210K, asking price in April 215K. I reckon we've been lucky.
-
My favourite is rightmove's Low Call Rates. 0845 numbers are non-geographic numbers that charge a "local" rate as opposed to 0870 numbers that charge a "national rate", 0800 "free" etc I've also just got a letter from the most annoying EAs in Reading explaining to me, cos I is thick, why a 20% drop in prices means that if I am upsizing I will be "saving" money.

Maybe you dont live in a street crammed full of multiple occupation terraced houses where no ones wraps rubbish carefully, uses biodegradbale bags or bothers to close their lid? I try, but then the bin men move the bins again and I am stuck with the one full of maggots once again. I think it's disgusting

Forgive me if it has been mentioned before, but..fortnightly bin collections? Rows of wheelie bins in terraced house streets, overfilling with maggots basking int he sun? back garden full of flies all summer? the stench?
-
..but it wasn't. -Poppet, what's the matter? you look very pale. -eh? pale? what d'you mean..can you pass me the jam? -yes, are you alright? -alright? yes, yes, of course, I've had a rough night, didn't sleep much, that's all -why's that? Another toast? - what am I doing? shhss, I can't be bothered with all this, I don't have time to butter my own toasts on top of everything, I'll have some coffee and grab something to eat later. It was just a bad dream, sweetheart, don't look at me with that face, no reason to be concerned. -what did you dream about, honestly, Gordon, you look dreadful - I can't even remember it well..I was in this meeting, hearing all this nonsense, balls was there, and that bald chappy from Northern Rock, I remember getting hot under under the collar, hearing their nonsense..and..no more boom and bust, liar loans, irresponsible lending practices.. -oh -yes, it was a nightmare, the biggest economic bubble in history bursting, redundancies, bank runs, panic, bail outs -Poppet, Nonsense, that is all rot, we have never been more prosperous and all is down to your hard work. If only that Tony did what he promised and stepped off for once. grrr he grates on me, the snake. -yes yes sure, it's the miracle economy, isn't it? the fundamentals that underpin the economy are so solid, we are growing, plenty of employment, not enough houses..and the money we are making from stamp duty, crikey! -of course dear, and remember: in the long term: Prices only go up! -thats right! Only go up! -thats better, nice big smile, have a lovely day gordy -you too darling

I am prepared to recycle as much as I can. I use my red wheelie bin and carry glass to the recycling facilities myself. I avoid using plastic carrier bags etc etc But forgive me for being disgusted at a council (Reading! Shame on you!) that encourages me to recycle by making walk down the road to town literally stopping myself retching from the smell of the wheelie bins. It's a road with terrace houses and there is a bin on the pavement every couple of metres. It's appalling. The garden is full of flies, those delightful ones that eat sh*t and I have to bleach the bins regularly to kill the maggots. Doesn't matter that I make sure my bags are always close and I try to waste little food. The bin men mix the bins when they collect, and now most of them are foul and maggot ridden. Do I feel green and happy when I am bullied to recycle like this? If they fine me for not being able to close the lid of my bin after a chav student leaves a bag full of takeaway containers in my bin as it has happened before I'd be furious. I blame the target culture. It is destroying this country

Quick Conversation With Swansea Ea Today
Popette replied to The Masked Tulip's topic in House prices and the economy
Any chance of this EA having a chat with his colleagues down in Newport? Last offer we made (given up now and going into renting) was 240K for a house just in the market for 299K. The EA literally snorted on the phoned and asked me if I knew what the asking price was. The answer was an immediate no. It's obviously still on the market, along with every other property we've offered on. In Newport they REALLY think they can turn offers down as things are definitely going to get better.. -
Crikey, who would have thought 18 months ago. I bet Homebase are pleased to hear. I can't say I am not happy to read this though. I remember how utterly sick I used to be when we lived in Guildford 5 years ago. HPI was gaining momentum scarily fast and we were renting without a chance in hell of ever buying a house there (not even the scummiest flat, everything was beyond our reach in 2003). So every time I saw Sarah Beeny on TV advising some morons to spend the least possible, go for the cheapest fittings, and the minimum work they could get away with to protect their PROFIT, I used to cringe and feel sick. So id this means one less person making 50K after painting a crap house magnolia, throwing some original fireplaces in a skip, fitting the cheapest kitchen and a second hand bath tub from ebay...then so be it.

Been through a similar conversation with a EA recently. Inmaculate 3 bedder in X street, on the market for 199K. Few doors down, 5 bedroom bedder for 215K (to be fair this one needs a lot of work and perhaps an exorcism, don't ask). The one we like, 4 bedroom in need of some updating but nothing too major, in the market a few months ago for 290K, now down to 270k. The vendors (an inheritance) want the asking price and would probably not even consider 250K. Historically, nothing has sold on this street for more than 230K-220K even on the peak (but has a mixture of victorian massive semis and smaller terraces). EA was fairly nice, saying IT IS overpriced, but there's no telling the vendor. But also having a go at my silly offer and asking me to offer more. These victorian massive houses are not the easiest to shift (high ceilings so expensive to heat etc). This one I think is going to be on the market for a long time. I wish the vendors the best of luck, but I am not going to commit financial suicide so their little Tarquin can go to private school or they can have a cruise on the inheritance when it starts getting a bit "nippy". Honestly..

Certainly the welsh ones masked tulip. Maybe it's me or something, but they are so arsey to me on the phone.

I am trying embarrassingly low cheeky verging on the insulting offers at the moment with no joy whatsoever. House A: On last year for 365K. Has gone down this year to 335K, then 325K now 310K. Two more houses much more nicely decorate inside on the same street at 330ish. Have tried offering 250 twice and the answer has been: Absolutely no chance, they want something starting with a 3. (30K??) House B: on the market for 6 months for 299K. We offered 240K which was considered but some muppet came up with a much higher offer the same day and now it's SSTC on rightmove. House C: down from 280K to 267K. EA said an offer of less than 30Kish the asking price was most likely not going to be considred. The house has many problems and no one in their right mind is going to touch it with a bargepole. House D: on the market for more than 8 months, maybe a year, originally 375 now 355K. I rang to ask to see if an offer of less than 20% the asking price (actually I wanted to say about 250 but chickened out at the end as the EA was being so cocky and horrible saying house prices actually hadnt come down that much) would be considered as if not, I woudlnt waste anyone's time coming to see it. They told me it wouldnt even be entertained. Am I taking the piss?
