  1. If he's for real - that wasn't too bad; a least he could laugh at himself. The natural good humour of the yanks and their enthusiasm will pull more of them through the recession than the (higher %) of feckless Brits.
  2. To be fair to Anthea - she's looks pretty fit...... Though Bovey's crash is a classic for our times - wealth built on next to nothing; no productive use of capital, just riding on a wave of hyperbole and debt. Sad for him perhaps, but no doubt good for the wider country / market.
  3. My approach is always to try and live within my means; if that provokes wierd comments / questions from family (in-laws) about why we don't want to own expensive period cottage / house, flashier car etc. then so be it. I'd rather go to bed at night knowing I have cover for redundancy, change of circumstance etc...than to waste it on aga features, BMW and all that crap. Having said that, chatter has got a LOT quieter recently
  4. The team for the Credit Crunch / HPC etc. would have been the old Wimbledon FC - a club that lived within its means, achieved (moderate) success, and was always there to fight another day. Though like many others it got greedy in the end, screwed its supporters and is now languishes in the lower leagues. I agree with many others - the quicker the obsence circus of the Premier League is wound down, the better for everyone.
  5. With English like that, you should be teaching it. If only some Brits would take lessons (hard work etc.) from the many industrious Poles who have been living here, we'd be a better country for it. Good luck to you, Sir.
  6. A few more offerings: - Ed Balls - Tate Modern - Stag weekends in Iceland - Yuman Rites Act - Smacking ban (attempts to) - Richard Dawkins - Exam grade inflation - Early prisoner release - Downgrading of HMP Dartmoor - Demise of Royal Navy - Chav culture - Glastonbury
  7. "The fascinating tower that gives the Betony such impact makes a powerful statement of the innovative, bold approach running throughout every aspect of the interiors." What utter guff. As many others have said these prices deserve to crash.
  8. Offices are becoming trickier places to operate; more and more colleagues are feeling serious HPC pain; some talking openly about financial problems, others more circumspect. You need to be diplomatic when opening up a conversation similiar to a HPC thread! Not something I'm always brilliant at.
  9. The idea of cultural displays must be causing dismay in 10 Downing Street; the true soul of Britain will be exposed in 2012; our debauched, vacuous lifestyles, our lack of a traditional identity will signal the true end of Britain's respect / standing in the world. You can guarantee there will be very little place for our history, or at least that prior to 1960. The athletes village will probably house a huge mosque, but the christian chapel will be relegated to a broom cupboard. I sincerely hope the above is incorrect; but I do worry.
  10. They're going to have to lower some of these estimates http://www.eigroup.co.uk/auctioneers/templ...=1&l=509675
  11. Are they selling Sackcloth + Ashes (BOGOF) in the 'Tesco Value' clothes range? A best seller for sure...
  12. More evidence of the stupid world we've been inhabiting for far too long. These supped up areas of Northern towns are going to take a pounding over the next 18months.
  13. Fascinating thread; some real honesty and good debate. Best of luck to you totty, Sir.
  14. Private sector salaries, public sector pensions. Disgusting; a farce and a betrayal. Make these contracts short term, with public (re)appointment hearings.
  15. when did you last see fit totty in a local SE London cafe? At least Starbucks et al made our days that little bit brighter...
  16. Its time to sweep out the whole darn lot; let the banks fail, and then start again, bringing in a maturity and perspective that has been sadly lacking. This bear food is great on a Friday evening..
  17. Time to buy shares in static caravan manufacturers - they offer better value holidays, and the environments / parks are improving....
  18. Commend his honesty; though he's in the stick sadly.
  19. Good grief. He should be sodding reducing spending, not weak promises to give no more. And also, AD - Shift those billions spent on truancy programmes into national service / hard labour schemes etc. - anything to try and equip the nation's yoof to acquire skills that will see us through a long term weakening of the economy.
  20. better for vendors to adjust the price downwards and secure a sell now, than try again in 6 months time. Brickor Mortis will give way to rapid decomposition by then...
  21. We're going to see more of this I'm afraid in Pakistan, India and S.Africa to name but 3. Too much too soon, with little understanding of market dynamics beyond the elites in these countries. Regulation though must be better than we have in UK.
  22. Great! Made me laugh out loud in office; colleagues now gathering round desk with me having to explain! Keep us amused Muggle.
  23. Travel has followed the same trend as house prices over last 10 years. What happened to the camp sites on the continent so popular in the 80's? We've gone greedy with our time off; spend '000s on trips to the far flung corners of the globe. Same symptoms, same causes, same results.
  24. Its time to dig in, get those barricades up, clean your shot-guns; this is going to get messy. This rotten, greedy, joke of a country is going to start the long road to recovery; but not before a Parisian 1789 re-run. Hold tight.
  25. Went with a B Marcus agent to view a house yesterday; poor girl. It was her first week in the job, no more than 20, trying to shift a house that's overpriced and been on the market for 6 months. She's going to get a rough ride me thinks.
