  1. Reminded me of an event last year. Kitchen was full of people bemoaning the higher cost of mortgages. I said 'you need to look at LIBOR', and cleared the kitchen. No mention of HPC required! Seems that I could do the same in the House of Commons, it would be emptied, bar me and the wonderful killer Cable. Couldn't complain mind, just wish Jim'll could fix it for me and me and MMEEooo.
  2. Will try in future, but was a mite poorly. Suing bosses?? Would have loved to contribute to that chat, my boss was a fairly scuzzy btl investor, who in a few weeks I will see at a tribunal! What an interesting crowd. Glad you all survived!
  3. To the best of my knowledge, developers are highly leveraged. The logical conclusion is they need to sell it quickly! Could be a steal.
  4. Hi Rod Thanks for posting this. Have an interest in seeing how Liverpool is doing. I don't live there, don't own anything there, but articles like this are very useful. Cheers B
  5. I have a Sutton Coldfield refugee staying with me at the moment! Long discussons lead me to think that home is where the heart is, but that's just me. My pal is here in London because she could find no work at all near Sutton however menial, but in London she gets £20ph. Chavvy behaviour happens everywhere I think.
  6. My understanding is that work has to start within 6 years of the grant of planning permission, but it doesn't normally have to be completed. Odd. Starting typically digging footings+. I guess it assumes because of going through planning, the applicant actually wants to finish it. 6 years is a long time............
  7. Interesting. I too was called yesterday by one. Similar story to above. Actually, rather sad.
  8. This is the biggest indication that the government will bail out developers, I have ever seen! With lobbying from 'teflon Tony' and/or his chums, what are they waiting for? National and party bancrupcy?? Thanks for posting this. B
  9. I am in the 'no' camp, 40% drop? I think plenty of people could see that and more, new build flat anyone??!!. I do think though that for everyone else it is going to be a close run thing, some will not see it. Whatever the average economic situation becomes, there will be (is) quiite a rush of btl stock on offer which wll drop the overall average. Quite prepared to be corrected but frankly scared to think about the level of unemployment which would accompany it.
  10. Gosh! Can't make it, but what a great guest list. Did think an angry Krusty was the sort of thing. Will do a Foxtons pub crawl sometime, even if I have to be wheeled there! B
  11. UM Thank you for a most interesting thread. Have a feeling you could be in Marylebone now. Nice spot. Feeling pleased for you, as I sit here, with a subtle green tinge, which is not a good look with a red nose!! Well done. B
  12. Oh my. Would love the top answer to have been Richmond, but to be fair that's not my vote. Being nothing short of generous to these uber rampers, I have to say they have made the Richmond branch look rather pretty. All plasma screens and pretty pictures, boarding it up, would be so unrichmond! Can they not all close the same day?
  13. My £9 weekly shopping budget was blown by £3 last week, therefore equating to no less than a 30% rise in sales. Growth or inflation? I'll let you decide, I'm off to talk to my courgettes.
  14. Someone, possibly him, was on the radio, not so long saying just this about Thurrock. Worked that well that, err, they are still promising the moon (on a stick)! I could not trust a man with such a poor grasp of the market, apart from anything else.
  15. I don't think inflation will be controlled with immediacy. It is quite realistic to see interest rates rising over the next 2-3 years, but cleverer people than me understand it better. As a bear of little brain, I would take a minimum of 5 year fixed, with an option of paying off up to 10% equity pa, and do it! As someone else said, sleep soundly.
  16. Should the police be advised? Reckon an angry Krusty or similar could be a force to be reckoned with, and there could be thousands, don't forget, the HPC is all our fault!
  17. Selfish generation?? My parents will retire on a pittance, guaranteed, despite 50+ years working. Gold plated public sector deals are not available to everyone. They like me work hard and save, put in a private pension scheme. Reward? Abuse from dicks like you.
  18. I don't rate them a a rule. Go for a share of freehold flat, or if possible find a house. Modern is not the best, Victorian is okay (pretty) but solid walls are not always brilliant. no cavity wall insulation, ropy damp proof course possibly, just do all you can to avoid a service charge. They are not all bad, but can be a killer if you have little control over them. The agents will get a cut on the costs, even a commission on the insurance.
  19. Don't tell me that the Tories can afford for Krusty to spend time away from them?! My goodness, intellect like hers is that hard to find, they should, I dunno, put an advert in the metro?
  20. I have an old nokia which I love. It was only £15pcm before but when it came up, all I had to say was that I was leaving. Small call and message allowance. 100% happy with that result. As for balconies, I used to live in a 1930's 1st floor maisonette. It had a small garden, and because the stairs were mine and external, a sort of small balcony. I lived there for 3 years very happily. On hot days I just left the door open as it was not visible from the road, and the neighbours would call. They were great too. That was Feltham, not the best area but am bovvered? I am not.
  21. Good point. I suspect however that the occupiers would not want their laundry, hung out in front of the neighbours/passersby to gawp at, unless it was a business. A better guide to the market will be to see how that business is suffering next year, when people have to do their own laundry and cannot pay someone to do it, for them. This anecdote, whilst interesting is pure fodder for bulls.
